hi hii cherry !! i love love love ur shit fr 😩
i saw this jjk's gojo fanfic the other day by @hannzai (shoutout bc also a cool writer !!) in passing where reader was his son's ex n they got revenge on him by sleeping w his dad (can't add link :/) n my mind couldn't help but end up thinking abt how the concept would be so fun to apply to miggy
i was thinking non-spider au, billionaire-ceo!single-dad!miguel who had his son, gabe (the second gabriel o'hara bc miggy loves his baby brother but has to give his kid a nickname for a distinction), young (i specifically thought of 20-22 but u could always change it to younger for a teen pregnancy thing, i just wanted him in his forties 💀). with a baby mama that walked out. miguel was a big family man nonetheless and had always made time for gabe n his family, made sure to raise him good. but somehow, his kid turned out a womanizing brat who had zero respect for others—the complete opposite of what miguel had taught n raised him to be. n it frustrates him to no end bc he doesn't know where he went wrong.
one day, gabe randomly tells him over dinner that he met someone (reader, ofc) a little older (i'm thinking four years older, so gabe is 22 n reader is 26 bc it's a good age gap for her n mig) n started dating them seriously n miguel was so surprised but he was so proud n so happy for his son, miggy himself didn't care too much for romance bc even after a little over two decades, he still thinks of how his baby mama left him n w his line of work, trust issues were necessary. but he was so happy n proud of his son !! he met reader very few times, once over dinner and a few times as his son's date to an event/ gala they were invited to n he was so glad that his boy was settling for someone so good n mature n intelligent n elegant n pretty and—
but then he realized it was all for naught be his son slept around anyw, regardless of the fact that he was supposed to be committing to someone, miggy questions his life decisions pt. ii.
reader ofc knows she's totally being cheated on, but she persevered. not be she's in love w gabe or anything, she doesn't even really like him, she was just lonely bc she only moved to nueva york recently for her job n she hadn't made any good friends yet so she's clinging :((
then it's gabe's 23rd birthday bash, they're like two months into dating, reader was hoping to get his attention that night. she wore a new dress that showed her off, shaved, spent hours on hours getting ready to look pretty so that her so-called ‘boyfriend’ would acknowledge her, only to be stumped at the party when gabe was alr sucking face with some other girl, surrounded by other women dressed skimpier than her n didn't even glance at her once. so she just ends up trying not to cry at some balcony, trying to still feel pretty bc she really did like her dress, she's regretting sm bc y did she even decide to go for someone younger, anyw, that was stupid n desperate—she always liked older guys anyw.
n guess who ends up seeing her?? her bf's hot dad!!!!!!
he approached her bc he preferred a familiar face n was never one for parties, but then he sees her crying n he immediately knew why. n for some reason, he wanted to comfort her, she was too pretty to be crying over his stupid manwhore son, anyway. he was too young to understand. miguel was older, he had the experience. he could treat her better—wait, y was he thinking that?? that's still his boy's gf.
but he just feels so so bad for her :(( maybe he should just show her exactly how she should be treated :(( starting by how to properly receive an o'hara dick ;(( (yes nsfw pls if u don't mind)
(she immediately ran off to yell at gabe from a distance n tell him she's breaking up w him ((bc she's not a cheater but which he hardly cared anyw)) before running back to pounce on papi o'hara and kiss him silly.)
optional but i think it would be funny for the next morning to happen n gabe either finds his dad n (ex) gf cuddling naked beneath the sheets in bed or seeing her in his kitchen making coffee (reader does not like coffee she made it for someone else ;)) while trying to nurse his hangover, not remembering that she was there n asking why she was, only for her to say that she was w his dad now n gabe pretty much fell out of his chair.
(preferably afab!reader pls !! also, i thought of reader being slightly more innocent ((doesn't partake in vices; drinking n smoking n all)) n kind of a good girl so do w that as u will <3 I'm so so sozzy this is so long i had to shrink it so it's not that long but i use too many words to summarize things that it's still so long anyw i'm hoping u like it enough to pick it up tho if there aren't roo many requests :D this idea has been stuck in my head for days since i read that oneshot i'm so stupid for this AGH)
Here you go!!!

When Worlds Collide
As the camera starts out staticky, you can hear a dark chuckle. Once the static clears out, a rather strange, mixmatched, dragon-like creatures comes into view.
"Hello, everypony! Should I say everyone. Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Discord, spirit of chaos and disharmony!"
"Originally, I wasn't scheduled to make my Tumblr debut until much later, but a certain mod informed me that desperate times call for desperate measures. Something on the line of... 'notifications'?"
"Though as exciting as it is for me to show my face early, my only complaint would be the fact that I have to SHARE this blog with others. But I suppose this will have to do for now. Perhaps if things go well here, I'll be able to have my own personal blog down the line..."
"With that being said, let's get this show on the road! I've been sent here to summon several muses here that I'm sure you'll be happy to see! After all; a lot of them are people you've met before I assume?"
And with that, Discord snapped his fingers. Just like that, tons of people(and one pony), appear. They look around in confusion before turning to face the odd creature that was before them.
“UwaaaaaaAAAAAAHHH!!!”
The spikey-haired boy ran into hiding. Oddly enough, two of them looked and dressed exactly like him. One went after the more timid version to check of him, while the other had bandages, all over his torso, arms and legs(I have no sprites for that one! T_T)
"W-what that f&ck is that?!?!"
'Kyaaaaaaah! It's a monster!'
"I'm going to assume that this is the creature who brought us here. But... why?"
Discord was rather disappointed by certain reactions as he turned away.
"A simple 'thank you' would've sufficed! But I suppose most of you aren't much a fourth-wall breakers now aren't you...? How rude! To think I actually did this to help you all on your current predicament-"
Before the draconaquus could finish his sentence, a certain pink pony zoomed in and gave him a super tight hug from behind.
"GYAAAAAGH!!!"
"Discord! Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you sooooooo much for bringing us all together! I'm so happy to finally be able meet all my neighbors at once! I thought it going to take like... foreeeverrr to meet a few of them at a time! And I SO thank our mod a bejillion times for this too! And that best part is... you now get to be a part of this too! This is the best! Decision! EVERRRRRRRR!!!"
"C-can someone... please give us a promo... before Pinkie Pie... breaks me in half...?"
(Hello everyone. Mod Princess here. So basically, this is a chaos blog mashing @ask-timid-makoto-naegi, @danganronpa-v3-demo-au, @your-pink-party-pony, and @sole-survivor-makoto-naegi altogether. This is being done due to the recent changes on tumblr regarding the notifications. I figured that I'd have some fun and add Discord from MLP into the blog as well.
So this is what's going to happen from here on out. Every event and starter I decide to do regarding any of my other blogs are going to start off here from now on. You also can also RP on the chaos blog if you'd like. It will just require me to use other blogs to respond depending one which of my muse(s) you are interacting with. I will also be using this blog for any and all RPs that I didn't get notified on.
Aster recommends this to me as an alternative option to constantly pinging, and so far it seems to have worked after @unofficialuserluser tested it out. So now I'm giving it a go. Fingers crossed this continues to work!
Edit 5/5/2023 - Okay so I wasn’t informed until like… just now the the problem has been fixed. REALLY wish someone would’ve told me this sooner before I went ahead and made this blog. Nonetheless, it’s here and people are already interacting. So I’ll need to figure out an alternative. If you still want to interact, go ahead and do so.
@unofficialuser(anyone you want), @werewolf-makoto-naegi @slimemakotonaegi @ask-ghost-boys @yui-samidare-reborn (anyone you want), @japanese-ultimateautism @special-encounters (surprise me), @laylayeh @tobys-multiverse-official @lre123 @ask-ultimate-personas @ask-the-ultimate-matchmaker @alizachan @coldwisped
As always, anyone who isn't tagged can also interact

warmer than cuddles
w/c: 2.4k
warnings: may plays matchmaker and makes some suggestive jokes
prompt: you and peter get caught in the rain and have to share an umbrella
a/n: thank youuu to the angel who requested <3 swear this is my favorite trope to write hehe ☔️
-
one of the many things you and peter have in common is being lazy. it’s sort of the basis of your friendship. you’re not the kids who drink or party or get in trouble. you play board games and eat pizza on his ripped up couch. the riskiest thing you’ve ever done is sneak into a movie.
peter was so paranoid you’d get caught, he couldn’t even pay attention. he kept whispering to you about paying the whole time. you had to drag him out by his hand after the movie ended. the next time you went to that theater, he bought an extra ticket to “make it even.”
that about put an end to your trying new things phase. you went right back to your comfy nights in pajamas. tackling each other for the remote, baking terrible cookies that you just throw out, sharing a blanket to stay warm. what also helps is that you cuddle under it.
all the fun you need is you, peter, and your love for doing nothing. may disagrees.
she’s always trying to get you two out of the apartment. in her words, it’s “unhealthy for developing teens to spend so much time cooped up inside.” peter once asked which mother’s facebook group she joined. you snickered at that. may gave you a warning look.
well, you don’t have a choice to stay in today. she’s kicking you and peter out because she has guests coming over.
“it’s girl’s night,” may tells the two of you with a satisfied smirk. she hangs her raincoat on the rack and comes into the living room. peter squints his eyes at her. “you have friends?” he sounds too surprised for your liking. you flick his arm hard enough to make him go “ouch!”
“peter, we only have, like, four friends. that’s counting ourselves,” you inform him with a laugh. peter drops his head onto your shoulder. “and i don’t need any of them but you,” he says sarcastically, rubbing his cheek on your sweatshirt. “aw, i know,” you coo and rest your head on his. may crosses her arms and shrugs.
“you should do a group play date with everyone! i haven’t heard from ned in a while,” she suggests, your eyes flicking over to peter. he’s biting back a grin. “play date?” you try to stifle a laugh when you ask. “you know what i mean. a hang out,” may nods at her better word choice. peter winces in protest.
“eh, ned will probably wanna go out somewhere. we don’t do that,” he tells may, like that’s a completely normal thing for a teenager to say. you raise a finger in agreement. she laughs in disbelief at you and peter. you’re splayed out on the couch, on a saturday, complaining about doing anything else.
“you two make me feel young.” may’s words are a joke, but her tone isn’t. “you are young, may,” you reassure her and smile a little. peter says nothing. his eyes become hooded as he settles into you more. “look at you two, like some old married couple,” may gestures to you from where she’s standing. she smiles this time.
peter’s face gets hot from the mention of you being a couple. your heart skips a couple of beats. you’re pretty sure he can tell from how close he is.
“do whatever you want, just not here,” she gets back to the real conversation. peter hides his entire face in your shoulder as a form of protest. you pat his back. “and not each other. unless you’re safe,” may adds. “may, please. no,” he groans out, positive he’s all red now. you blink at her in horror.
may knows what she’s doing. peter isn’t the most subtle person, especially not about liking someone. she’s learned all the signs that her nephew is falling. he’s falling for you. she sees it in you, too. the way your eyes soften when they meet peter’s, how fast you are to hug him back or beam at the silly things he says.
you two spend so much time apart from your other friends, you basically are a couple. you’re just not old or married. the only thing you need is a push to realize that.
“ok, we’re gonna go now,” peter decides and pulls away from you. “god bless,” you say only so he can hear. he chuckles at that, you getting up from the couch. giving him a knowing smile, you grab one of his hands. he lets you pull him to his feet while exhaling. he’s already exhausted. may watches and shakes her head.
peter walks up to give her a quick hug. “enjoy girl’s night. love you,” he murmurs as she squeezes him tight. even though they tease each other a lot, their relationship is really sweet. it’s very telling how a guy treats his mother. well, aunt in this case. that thought has always been in the back of your mind.
“have fun!” you grin at may when her and peter pull apart. he comes back over to you and tugs on your sleeve. “thanks, kids. we’ll be done around eleven,” she lets you know. you’re already getting your shoes on and ready to leave. eleven is a while from now.
“don’t forget an umbrella! it’s drizzling!” may calls after you two. peter grabs hers that’s leaning against the front door. it’s pink with purple polka dots. you giggle at that. “hey, i like pink,” he defends himself and opens the door, letting you out first. you raise your hands in defense, leaving the apartment.
peter waves at may one last time. “good luck, peter,” she tells him once you reach the stairs. he furrows both eyebrows. “good luck with what?” “you’ll see,” may raises her own eyebrows in a way that’s all too familiar to peter. he calls it her face of wisdom.
still confused, peter heads out. he finds you at the bottom of the stairs. you shove your hands in your pockets and push against the door to open it. peter meets you outside, twirling the umbrella between his fingers.
“is there anywhere you wanna go?” he asks as you start to walk. you’re just going down the block for now. “back upstairs,” you sigh out. “i wish. not an option, though,” peter puffs some air out of his cheeks. you fumble to pull up your hood. he easily reaches over and does it for you.
“thanks,” you say quietly. “you’re welcome,” peter pats the top of your head for emphasis. “we could just walk around.” “until eleven o’clock? that’s five hours from now,” you laugh out, adjusting your hoodie to block your face. disappointment crosses over his features.
“should’ve brought my suit,” he mutters mostly to himself. linking your arm with his, your eyes widen. “i’m not trusting you to swing me around in this weather.” his bicep flexes when your arm wraps around his own. “what? i’ve done it before, y/n/n. on patrol.” you turn your head towards him.
“didn’t you get hurt last time?” you already know the answer. “sprained wrist and a few cuts,” he grumbles, you humming because you’re right. he’d called you in tears when he got home, scared he broke something. you reminded him he would heal soon and stayed on the phone until he calmed down.
that ended up being the whole night. you’re probably the most supportive of peter being spider-man. you of course worry about the toll it takes, but you understand why he does it. the least you can do is be there for him while he navigates the superhero world. not talk him out of it or scold him for making mistakes, be there.
that’s why he loves his lazy days with you so much. they’re his break, his escape from what he lies awake worrying about most nights. you’ve seen what he has to go through, so you respect that. whatever he needs to do to unwind is fine by you. as long as you get to do it with him.
“then you couldn’t patrol for weeks. you could barely hold a pencil.” your other arm sneaks around his. they’re both hugging him now. “you had to be my note taker,” peter reminisces, a smile making its way onto his face. “that sucked, man. you’re such a perfectionist about them,” you breathe out.
peter flips the umbrella around in a show-off kind of way. “you don’t complain when i send them to you.” he sounds so cocky you can’t help but roll your eyes. he isn’t wrong, though. “whatever. seriously, where should we go?” “uh,” peter’s eyes scan the block for inspiration. they land on a man carrying takeout.
“dinner? not at a restaurant since we’re in sweats,” he adds the last part so you don’t have to. “ooh, let’s go to panera,” you happily squeeze his arm. peter quirks an eyebrow at you. “you’re always hungry after.” “so? we can get dessert, too. we have a while.” that makes his heart flutter. a while with you.
“cool, cool, cool,” he sings to you, leaning into your side as you walk. you giggle and push at his shoulder. “i think we can make it there before the rain picks up.” there’s a clap of thunder right after he says that, like something out of a movie. it’s followed by a heavier rain coming down on you two. you pull at the strings of your hoodie to keep it tighter on your head.
“jinxed it,” you remark, both of you stopping so peter can open the umbrella. “ugh,” he grunts out. his lower lip is between his teeth while he undoes the velcro. he pushes down and watches as the umbrella springs open for you two. “here, c’mere,” peter welcomes you under as he holds it above your heads.
it doesn’t quite fit you both since it’s only meant for one person. you forgot he took may’s. the two of you have to squish together so you can avoid the rain, which is pitter pattering down hard on the sidewalk.
you’re comfortable under here with him. the freezing cold weather outside of the umbrella is hardly an issue anymore.
peter turns to face you, letting out a breathless laugh. “you can take off your hood now.” your arms slip from around his. you remove it from your head and give him a toothy grin. it’s one that’s meant to be over exaggerated. “there’s that pretty face,” peter’s voice gets quieter. unlike what you did, that wasn’t a joke.
your pretty face loses its smile. you’re suddenly very aware of how close peter is to you.
you can see the faint scar on his chin from when he banged it into a wall in your living room. he’d ran straight into it during your two person game of hide and seek. yes, you still play that. it was gushing blood for half an hour.
there are also the thousands of freckles dotting his face, the ones you only notice by looking at him super hard. you try to count them whenever you get bored. peter stares back at you while you fall in love with every tiny detail about him.
he takes the time to admire your lips, not just because they look really kissable right now. because of every curious expression they press into when he does something you can’t believe. your eyes, that he feels a sense of safety and honesty and familiarity every time he looks into. he finds them and feels like he’s home.
“peter?” you speak up after a few moments. your tone is hesitant, as if whatever you’re going to ask will change what you have forever. that’s because it might. it’s silent except for the sound of the rain hitting his umbrella. peter finally answers, almost in a whisper. “yeah?”
“i... i think,” you clear your throat before going on. his eyes trail down to your lips again, then back up to your twinkling ones. even on a gloomy day like this, they could light up the whole sky. “i think i love you,” you get out, a hand over your racing heart. peter gives you a small but sure nod. “i think i love you, too.”
he takes a step closer to you, if that’s even possible. his hand without the umbrella comes up to hold your cheek. you watch as he uses his thumb to wipe away a few stray rain droplets. your head tilts to the side, lips parted on instinct. peter leans in until his lips just brush yours, letting you decide what comes next.
you choose to close the space between you two. his eyes squeeze shut, whole face scrunched up when he kisses back. this is a release of all the emotions he’s been holding in that he didn’t even realize he had. you slip into a rhythm, using the angle to move your lips against peter’s.
his hand drops from your cheek to your jaw to support you while you kiss. your own hands grab his biceps, fingers pressing into him, depesrate to have him in your arms. peter lets out a content sigh against your lips before detaching them. it’s not for long. he comes right back in after taking a breath.
you get one long peck from him, then another that’s softer than the last. you give him a short kiss back, lips curving into a smile when this one ends. peter’s thumb smooths over your jawline while he searches for your eyes. he grins at you and tightens his grip on the umbrella handle. he’s surprised it didn’t blow away in the midst of your mini makeout.
“i definitely love you, peter,” you state so genuinely, hands on his shoulders now. that has to be peter’s favorite sentence he’s ever heard. the most beautiful combination of words, said by you to him. “i definitely love you, y/n,” peter agrees, punctuating his statement with one last kiss. you haven’t stopped smiling when his lips meet the corner of yours.
may was right about two things that night. you needed the umbrella for that huge storm, but it did more than protect your from the rain. it also brought you and peter together in a way. the second thing she was right about was that peter loves you, and every feeling he has mirror yours for him.
actually, she was right about three things. you two have to get out of the apartment more often.

‘Can you breathe any louder?’ Loki asked you irritatingly. Like your punishment couldn’t get any worse, you had to share a cell with the God of Mischief and Lies. The only upside was his mother, making sure he had plenty of books, a comfy chair, and a table. She even got him a bed, even tough it was one bed. Even her influence was limited, but you were more than grateful for these extra’s in your shared cell. Of course, Loki wouldn’t let you sleep in the bed. No, you should be happy he was not making you sleep on the floor. He gave you the chair to sleep in instead, bastard.
‘What was that, dear?’ you asked innocently. You knew how annoyed he would get when you called him by a nickname. Loki certainly was a dominant man, and nicknames was not something he accepted. You smirked when he didn’t answer you, he just grumbled at the name you gave him. You grabbed one of his books and began to read it. You were halfway the first chapter when you hear an annoying voice say ‘Who told you that you could grab my things?’
‘Come on, I’m bored out of my mind. It’s not like you need all these books at the same time’ you argued back. Loki, who was sitting on the floor against the wall, got up and strut towards you. He slapped the book out of your hands. The book went flying against the wall, the barrier burned it a bit. It made a hard sound when it hit the floor. ‘Those are MINE’ he growled. He didn’t move from his position, trying to dominate you with his stance. You were still sitting on the floor on the opposite side from where he sat. You weren’t having this. You looked him straight in his eyes ‘The fact that I’m stuck in here is also YOURS’ you said back.
Loki gave you a mean glare but returned to his original position, sitting across the ground on the other side of the cell. You had to admit, it wasn’t entirely his fault that the two of you were stuck in this cell. You had to steal the Tesseract from Odin’s fault, and it took a long time planning the heist too. Everything was in place, until he had to ruin it, of course. You knew he was planning on taking the Tesseract himself, some people close to him told you. But the idiot hadn’t taking into account the new alarm system. So, when he set it off the guards were gathering around you. They saw you holding the Tesseract and Loki standing right behind you. Your explanation to the Allfather didn’t matter, what you did was wrong and both of you needed to be punished.
You could handle the imprisonment, it wasn’t the first time you were. But imprisonment with him was. And you knew he hated it as much as you. You were convinced the only reason Odin put you in a cell together, was to add a sting to Loki’s sentence. You looked around the prison, your cell was the only on with furniture and books, thanks to Frigga. How the other prisoners coped, you did not know. You turned your attention back to Loki. He licked the tip of his index finger and turned a page. You got up and sat in the chair, also known as your bed.
‘Loki, I’m bored’ you whined to him. ‘That is not my problem, tell someone who cares’ he replied. ‘You are the only one here’ you sighed. ‘How lucky are you’ he said sarcastically. ‘What, if you weren’t there I wouldn’t be caught. Unlike you, I had an escape plan´ you argued. Loki just smirked ‘What was your escape plan on Jotunheim?’ he asked. The remark gave you flashbacks to the time you tried to steal the source of powers from the Frost Giants. But Loki interrupted you suddenly, because he was there with Thor and the Warrior Three on a different quest. You hadn’t had an escape plan and spend the next six months in this prison. After that you ran into him in a sleezy bar far away from Asgard, right before he tried to take over Midgard. You should have known he faked his death. Even tough you hated him, you had to admit he didn’t look like himself. He looked awful.
When you heard the Tesseract was on Midgard, you went yourself. When you saw him on Midgard he looked even more terrible. His hair was a mess, he had dark circles under his eyes and was walking with a limp. Something that was weir, considering he healed fast. But you didn’t care, you had a mission the finish. If you didn’t you would pay for it with your life. It was annoying that Loki himself wanted the same thing you were after. You felt Loki trying to invade your mind. ‘Stop it’ you yelled. Hoping that he would, because you didn’t know how to stop this kind of attack. Loki just smirked and returned to his book.
Your favourite guard brought the two of you your lunch. ‘Thank you, Baldar’ you said when he opened a small part of the barrier and slide two meals inside. ‘My pleasure’ Balder replied politely. You saw Loki role his eyes at the interaction, but he didn’t say anything, You grabbed your tray and began to eat the meal, it tasted terrible. ‘How is it?’ Loki asked. ‘What do you think?’’ you replied. Loki got up, grabbed his tray, and tasted it You smiled when you saw his face scrunch. ‘I may have found something more terrible than you’ he said while scrunching his face.
The rest of the midday, you two didn’t speak to each other. You grabbed another book and luckily Loki didn’t smash it from you. The lights were going off and you realised was night-time. You had enough of the chair you were sleeping in and decided to lay down on the bed. ‘What do you think you’re doing?’ Loki asked, when he saw you laying down in his bed. ‘I’m going to sleep you answered while pulling the blankets closer to your chest. Loki must have been tired because he didn’t argue with you. He just sighed and walked towards the bed.
He laid beside you. Just before you drifted to sleep, he grabbed your throat. ‘What game are you playing?’ he asked. You tried to not be intimidated ‘Look, I needed the Tesseract, I wasn’t planning to use it for my own. But even if I do get out now, I’m in trouble’ you finally snapped. You had no interest in telling him your problems, but knew that lying to him was pointless. Loki didn’t say anything for a long time. He let go of your throat and laid back down facing you. ‘What if I’m in that predicament too?’ he asked you. You didn’t know how to respond to that. Loki could never know that you encountered Thanos and that he expected you to deliver the Tesseract. He didn’t have to know what you went trough, it was too painful to think about. You didn’t know what situation Loki got himself into, but you couldn’t let him best you anymore. Thanos’ patience had run out and you were in serious trouble. ‘Trust me, it’s not the same’ you replied. You closed your eyes and turned around.
It was the middle of the night when you woke from a loud explosion. ‘What is happening?’ you asked. You looked around your cell and saw another cell with its barrier breached. A prisoner was freeing some of the other inmates from different cells. This was your chance! Before you moved you felt one of Loki’s arms retracting from your sides. ‘Well, good luck to you, daring’ he purred. Was he just cuddling you? You decided not to dwell on it. You grumbled at him, you hated when he called you by a nickname, and you knew he knew that. The prison was now absolute in chaos. Guards were running around, and more and more barriers were breached. It didn’t take long before the barrier of your cell was broken. Loki and you exchanged a look before running in the opposite way from each other.
The chaos was your moment of opportunity. You ran towards the vault, there were only two guards guarding the door. You took them both out quickly and entered the vault. You ran to the end of the hall. There you saw it, the emulating light blue cube that you needed to escape whatever death Thanos had in store for you. You picked up the Tesseract when you heard a voice behind you ‘I wouldn’t do that if I were you’.
‘You have no idea what you’re talking about. Just leave me alone’ you said.
‘If you bring him that he is just going to send you to get another stone. If you fail him you die, if you don’t and he succeeds that chance of you dying is about 50 percent’ Loki told you.
You just stared at Loki with wide eyes. ‘How do you know that?’ you asked. He took a few steps towards you, standing very close before you. ‘I’ve been doing everything in my power to stop Thanos, you on the other hand have not been making that task easy’ he growled.
‘How do you know about him?’ you yelled.
‘There was a time he thought I was working for him. I know more about him than you might think’ he answered.
‘Then you know I have no choice, I’ll be dead if I don’t do this’
‘I didn’t do it and I’m still alive’ he quipped back.
‘Unlike you I don’t have magic to help me’ you took a step back and turned around. Ready to teleport with the Tesseract out of the vault. Loki grabbed your wrist and spun you back around. ‘You have me’ he said.
‘What?’ you asked absolutely stunned. ‘There’s always a choice, darling. You have three options. One, you give him the stone and probably die serving him the rest of your life. Two, you hide on your own, but he surely finds you and you die anyway. And don’t for a second think it would be quick and painless. We both know Thanos doesn’t do that.’ Tears were starting to form in your eyes, thinking back to all the torture you had been put trough. You noticed the look in Loki’s eyes, you saw something vulnerable in them. ‘What is the third one?’ you asked. ‘You come with me, I’ll keep you safe. And we think of a plan to stop him’ he gave you a genuine smile.
‘You hate me, why would you do that?’ you asked.
‘Just because we’re enemies doesn’t mean I hate you. We both did what needed to be done to survive. But, you have 10 seconds to decide before an army of guards burst through those doors’
For a few seconds you looked at him and thought over your options. Did you really have a choice? you thought. ‘Fine, I’ll go with you’ you said before your time was up. Loki engulfed you in a hug and a green shimmer formed around you. You started to feel dizzy and closed your eyes, leaning on Loki. You heard him chuckle. ‘As much as I enjoy this, you can open your eyes and let go now’ he said. You did as he said and found yourself standing in the middle of a cottage. ‘Where are we?’ you asked. ‘My safehouse somewhere in the woods on Midgard. You can relax, Thanos won’t find you here. I put up shields, nobody knows we’re here’ he answered.
You moved around the cottage. It was slightly bigger than the cell you just escaped from. There was a fire burning in the hearth, with in front of it a very comfy looking couch. There was a big bookcase with a desk and a comfortable lounge chair. The kitchen was small, but all the essentials were there. There was one door which led to the bathroom, with only a shower, sink, and a toilet. When you closed the door and stood in the main room you noticed that there was one large bed. You glared at Loki ‘I’m not sleeping in a chair again’ you said. Loki laughed ‘The bed is big enough for two, I think you’ll be fine’
‘One thing, I need you to hand me the Tesseract. My shiels may hide us, but they can still sense it is here’
You doubted giving him the cube. He saw the doubt in your eyes. ‘I made a promise to keep you safe, all you need to do is trust me’ he added.
‘Would you trust you?’ you asked.
‘Probably not, but I need you to’ he said back.
You took a deep breath and gave him the Tesseract. What choice did you have anyway? A green shimmer started to shine over the cube, and it slowly disappeared in his hands. He gave you a reassuring smile. Despite the fire burning you felt a little cold. ‘I’m going back to bed’ you said. Loki nodded, followed you and laid down next to you. Even tough the bed had room for four people in it, Loki laid close enough for you to feel his warmth. The orange light of the fire was dancing over his face, and you noticed that Loki was quite an attractive man. The only thing you wanted to do that moment was cuddle closer, lay on his chest and fall asleep while he was holding you close to him. You were wondering what sparked these feelings. You never thought about him that way. But then again, this was the first time you felt safe in a very long time. He made you feel safe.
‘See something you like?’ Loki smirked. That was when you realized that you were staring a bit too long at him. You felt yourself starting to blush. You wanted to turn around, but Loki put a hand on your shoulder to stop you. He moved closer to you and you froze, not knowing how to react. He didn’t stop until his lips almost touched yours. He looked in your eyes intently, waiting for you to make a move. You shut your eyes and closed the distance between the two of you. His lips started to move softly against yours. The way his lips felt on yours, you needed more, more of him. You put a hand on his neck and deepened the kiss. Loki eagerly returned your affection by sliding his tongue in your mouth. His hand trailed from your shoulder to your lower back. He pulled you closer to him. You put a hand under his t-shirt, starting to explore his chest and abbs. Loki started to kiss down your neck and you felt him smile against your skin.
He stopped to crawl on top of you and removed his shirt. You couldn’t keep his hands off him. He ducked back down to kiss you. He starting to kiss you deeper and faster. Your hands started to stroke his back and you opened your legs to pull him closer. He moaned into your mouth. It spurred you on to undo the button of his pants. ‘Eager, aren’t you?’ Loki smirked at you. You stayed silence and pulled his pants from his bottom. He helped you by taking them off completely. You tried to pull him down to kiss you, but he grabbed your hands and put them down beside your head. ‘Now, I don’t think this is quite fair’ he said. ‘Well, I always was a few steps ahead of you’ you smirked. Loki let out a low growl. He found the clasp of your dress and unlocked it, immediately pulling the fabric from your body. You laid beneath him, in your lingerie. ‘If I knew you were this underneath your clothes, I would have done this much sooner’ he whispered to you.
He started to kiss you, while his hands were roaming your body. You did the same and couldn’t help but land your hands on his butt. You give him a light squeeze, making Loki moan hard. You really liked this side of him. He undid your bra and hooked his fingers on the side of your thong. ‘Wait’ you said. Loki immediately froze and looked at you questionably. ‘What’s wrong?’ he asked. You felt a little bad, seeing the worry in his eyes. ‘Nothing, I just want you to undress first’ you smirked at him. Luckily, your comment put the twinkle back in his eyes. ‘Have you earned that?’ he challenged you. ‘I’ve bested you in most situations, so yeah, I’ve earned it’ you grinned widely at him. He just chuckled ‘I will let you think that, but you still haven’t earned it, darling’ he said. He pulled your thong down and you were now completely naked underneath him.
‘You look absolutely beautiful’ he sighed while kissing your stomach, trailing downwards. You thought he was going for your clit, but instead he just resumes kissing you. His lips went to your hips and your upper thigh, down towards your knees. He trailed back upwards, but still was avoiding the place you needed him the most. ‘Loki’ you panted. ‘Hmm, say that again’ he hummed. His lips trailed further upwards until he reached your neck. ‘Loki, please’ you panted again. You felt him hum again, and he sunk his teeth in your neck. You hissed from the sudden action, he didn’t bite down hard, it was enough for you to feel alive but not hard enough to actually pierce your skin. ‘If you want something, all you got to do is ask’ he purred. ‘You really think you got the upper hand here, do you?’ you asked. Loki didn’t have to answer you, his face said it all. He did.
That’s when you bucked your hips and rolled against his. You felt his erection clearly through his fabric. Your wetness left a small stain on his boxers, only adding friction to your movement. Loki let out a silent moan. He replicates the movement and didn’t stop. The fabric of his boxers between the two of you felt thicker each time he slid it against your core. Loki let out a hard growl ‘Fuck it’ he said. You were a bit shocked, you never heard Loki curse before, he always kept his composure. He leaned back a bit and undid himself of his boxer. He laid back down on top of you, putting more weight on you than before. ‘Normally I would play with you for hours, but right now I need you’ he whispered in your ear. Without any hesitation you opened your legs more and felt Loki enter you. He certainly was bigger than you first anticipated. He filled you up like you never had before. You felt every movement he made, every vein on his cock and it felt like Valhalla itself. Loki, who was thrusting slowly in and almost out of you, picked up the pace. The length of his erection reached all the way to your G-spot. The way he hit that sensitive spot inside of you made squeeze around his cock. He started to moan, grunt and curse under his breath.
He didn’t slow down. The way he fucked you could only be described as animalistic. Like he was denied his release for so long, he couldn’t hold back anymore. You put your hands in his hair and pulled him down for a kiss. He started to kiss you like he was fucking you. Leaving fast and open mouth kisses on your mouth, your cheek, and your neck. His put a leg over his shoulder and you felt his fingertips grab you hips tighter. You knew for sure his kisses and hands would leave you bruised the next morning. But you didn’t mind that people could see you were his, you knew he was doing this for that reason on purpose. ‘I’m close’ Loki panted. He put one of his fingers on your clit, drawing circles on it with much pressure. The only thing you could do was moan his name. You moaned it over and over again. Loki grabbed your chin and kissed you. He broke the kiss to let out a loud grunt. Your orgasm hit you hard and you felt his seed spill inside of you.
Loki pumped in and out of you a few more times, before he collapsed on his back beside you.
‘That was amazing’
he panted. You were out of breath and the only thing you did was hum in agreement. After Loki had cleaned himself up, you went into the bathroom to do the same. When you walked back to the bed you saw Loki almost drifting to sleep. He looked innocent and pure in that moment. You crawled into the bed and he immediately grabbed you and pulled you close to him.
‘I’m never letting you go’
he whispered to you.
‘You better not’
you quipped back. He nuzzled his face further in the crook of your neck. His arms tightened around you. For the first time you felt safe, peaceful, and relaxed. The problems the two of you were facing would come tomorrow, but right now, everything was perfect.

So I was inspired by @mrpenguinpants (go check out their work I'm referring to below this paragraph) and wanted to do another genshin fic. The interactions here can be anything you want it to mean (besides qiqi ofc). Also this is very self indulgent.
Genre: Fluff, Angst
Warnings: Self hatred, self loathing, blood, depressing thoughts ig(?), momentary oblivion of you squint.
Also I'm on mobile so I'm so sorry for not being able to add a read more option!
Somehow you knew without knowing. You said things without needing to say it. A vessel of purity and wholeness. You had so much to give.
But how much was too much?
Qiqi called yours name on a rather sunny day. You were just about to head to Bubu Pharmacy when she ran up to them.
"Could you help me pick herbs? We always go together."
You knew what she meant in ways she couldn't convey. You were special to her, to everyone. You weren't aware of it though.
Knowing the worth of others was easier than knowing the worth of yourself.
"Of course, Qiqi, I'll always have time for you."
Qiqi loved your smile. It felt familiar. Qiqi saw you as an older sibling. She loved you in ways she couldn't express.
"I'm only good to be your ladder though! You know I'm not good with naming herbs!"
On a cooler day, Zhongli called you to have some tea with him. The both of you sat at a teashop watching the harbor through the open window.
The gentle breeze touched all uncovered parts of your skin. The smell of the sea dancing underneath your nose. The sunset painting a melancholic picture.
"The ocean looks sad today."
Zhongli looked at you rather confusedly. After promptly sipping his tea he responded.
"How can an ocean look sad? Something so old shouldn't be humanized."
The last sentence was more for himself than anything. You didn't know, but he sometimes loathed himself for all he'd done. He wondered if all the blood spilt was worth it.
You reminded him of Guizhong, so ready to see things in a new light without judgement. He often hears you sing to glaze lilies around Qingce.
"How could we forget what all the ancients did for us?"
A day after some much needed rain, you spotted Ganyu. Busy as ever, she was handling the unending work she often received. You decided to help out.
"Good morning, Ganyu. You seem to be someone who'd appreciate and extra pair of hands."
The joking atmosphere seemed to help lift the weight more than your hands. Ganyu giggled a bit.
"Some help would be much appreciated."
The rest of the day didn't feel like work. Ganyu felt the days of her childhood rushing back to her. Days without worry or work. Everything felt warmer, the sun began peeking its head out of the clouds.
"I'll do my best."
You visited Hu Tao on a gloomy day. The clouds were gray and it looked as if it was about to rain. You entered the doors of the funeral parlor with the permission of the ferrylady.
Unfortunately, Hu Tao wasn't feeling very Hu Tao that day. Walking into her office, she seemed lost in thought.
"Hu Tao?"
The gift of candies laud forgotten on the desk. You moved to place a hand on her shoulder. A gesture of your listening presence.
"They're just pranks, and I'm just trying to get business. Like everyone else, its just...different."
Pulling her in for a hug, just being a strong unbreakable pillar for her sake.
"They don't see all the things you do behind the scenes. That makes them immature, not you. I don't think they know why you do the things you do, and you know what? That's okay. You know what you're doing, and that's the best thing you could do. You're doing so well."
Liyue knew you so so well. An unbreakable pillar. A foundation that so many people needed.
What would happen if you ever crumbled? Well, that could never happen.
You visited Xiao on a rainy day. No heavy downpour, just a normal pitter-patter kind of rain.
You held a new dish in your hands, thinking that Xiao should try a new dish. Not to 'be more human' but to just try a different taste of life.
"Why are you still coming here? Its a long way from the harbor."
You simply smiled at the ground and put down the dish. Too afraid to sit on the railing, you opted for the floor.
"Being lonely isn't fun."
"As I thought, you're still so blind. Loneliness is my only company."
You laughed for a moment.
"Guess I should change my name to loneliness then."
You dared not to look at the mighty yaksha. You were just a pathetic human after all. Letting the dish sit in your lap, you outstretched your arms behind you.
"And you can't go around telling people they're blind! We all see things differently. You might think you need to spend eternity in loneliness, but we all crave to be loved or appreciated. Xiao, you're stuck with me."
You closed your eyes and turned towards Xiao, giving him a smile.
You felt the dish being taken from your lap and heard him sit next to you.
He began eating the warm soup.
Today was a bad day to go out. Heavy rain and a dark atmosphere. But you had commissions knocking against your income. You were preoccupied with something else though.
Everyone's busy. I really need some help but everyone's busy and I don't want to bother them.
You admired Qiqi for braving through her life as best as she could.
You admired Zhongli for his wise and comforting views on life.
You admired Ganyu's persistence in her work, but most importantly in herself.
You admired Hu Tao for being herself even when others shamed her for it.
You admired Xiao for living through such mundane life, day after day.
You wanted to be just like them, but you just couldn't do it on some days.
You wanted to hide. You wanted to bitch about your day. You wanted to give up. You wanted to hide yourself to avoid judgement. You wanted something different. Someone different.
Someone who wasn't you.
You never looked as good as everyone else. Your voice never sounded right. Your never seemed to be mentionable or noteworthy. And on some days you were okay with that.
Am I really going to be another grain of salt?
You trudged through the thick mud, ignoring the blisters on your feet. The rain seemed to taunt you as it settled in your clothes, your bones.
All you could taste was steel. You couldn't remember the last meal you ate. You felt so tired. You wanted to just stop everything.
But how could you? How could you when everyone else went on? It was just one last commission. They all have so much on their plate, you couldn't burden them anymore.
But your lungs burnt, you couldn't feel your fingers on your right hand. Where was your weapon? When did you lose your bag?
Why were your eyes so blurry? Everything sounded so loud. You just wanted to sleep. You were tired. You were trying so hard.
Why was it so fucking hard?
Why couldn't you do it? Why were you always so unsure? Why didn't you work as well as the others? Your feet moved by themselves. They weren't going fast enough. Your body wasn't good enough.
You're not enough.
You think you're at your destination. You don't know. Everything feels so unclear. Everything feels wrong.
Then there was warmth on your back. It was so warm, so comforting. It finally lulled you to sleep.
The millileth pulled the mitachurl's firey axe from the back of your corpse.
You were confused when you woke up. A girl with brown hair and a hat was frantically calling someone. You were in a lobby of sorts. There were others talking about people who left. They didn't look like people. They were see through.
See through just like you.
"Aiya! Why aren't you listening to me you idiot! You scared us! What happened?"
The girl seemed to be the only normal person here. Suddenly you felt like you've been ripped from that foggy place.
People were calling the same person's name again. Over and over. You were just trying to continue sleeping when you were violently shaken.
"Hey! Whats your problem!"
You shook the person off of you. A young man with a green tattoo and dark hair. A taller man with amber eyes and brown hair. A woman with horns and silky looking blue hair. That girl from before who wore the hat. A small girl with light purple hair and had a talisman on her hat.
"You're alive! Thank the archons! We were so worried when we heard the news! " The lady with the horns looked as if she was about to cry. You felt bad but the tension was awkward.
"I'm sorry, but I don't know who you are."
Ty for reading! Leave a like and a comment if you enjoyed it! I hope some of yall picked up the hidden meanings hehehe~

Vampire! King! Ardyn Izunia!- Sadistic
Hey guys! Let’s kick off October with a bang!!!
ANON ASKS (HEY FRIEND)
Sooo Ardyn is a guilty pleasure of mine. Feel free to do what you want with these prompts, I won’t judge lol. They are all from the prompt list.
7. You like when I choke you don’t you?
62. What a gorgeous dress…but it’d look better torn to ribbons don’t you think?
70. You know…it’s dangerous being out like this. A pretty little sla- I mean thing like you out here all alone.
Thank you for including the actual prompt in the ask!! I may or may not have made him slightly sadistic. Also I got a rude ask telling me to put a read more break...so on purpose I didn’t add one here. It pays to be polite.
CHECK OUT MY MASTERLIST HERE!!
X RATED PROMPT LIST| NON X RATED PROMPT LIST
Leggo!!
...
The hem of your gown was torn to shreds as you ran through the forest. You were barefoot running through the cold and wet dirt. Your feet were starting to itch from the scratching of small twigs against your skin. You were running away from your parents’ palace.
You were to be married to someone. Someone you were disgusted by. You had two options. Marry or Be disowned. You chose to escape through your window and jump down. You almost hurt yourself on the way down, but it was worth it.
You had been running for what felt like hours with the moon on your tail. You finally stopped as soon as your palace was nothing but a silhouette in the distance.
“Guess I’m homeless now.” you sighed, sitting on a small log. “What am I supposed to do?” you groaned. It was dark and you could barely make out the moon amongst the smog. Lucky for you the wind was slightly picking up allowing you to feel the breeze on your skin.
“What’s this?” a low vibrating tone allowed you to come back to your senses.
You instantly rose to your feet, turning to meet the face of tall man. He looked as if he was dressed for the middle of the winter time with his heavy trench coat and scarf.
“A scared little lamb all by herself in such a place. You’re a long way from home aren’t you, young one?”
“Don’t speak down on me as if I’m a child, sir.” you narrowed your eyebrows at the strangers. “I’m far from it.”
“Hm.” he smirked. “My apologies.” he gave a slight bow. “What’s a young soul like you doing out in these parts so late in the night?”
“I don’t believe that is any business of yours, sir.” you took a step back. “Now I’ll be taking my leave now.” your voice wavered as you turned aroundd. But just as you turned to walk away, a man, the same man appeared before you.
“ You know…it’s dangerous being out like this. A pretty little sla- I mean thing like you out here all alone. “ he said with his hand held out. “If I may be so bold, I can escort you out of these parts.” his eyes practically glowed in the dark.
“No thank you.” you stepped back. “I know my way very well, thank you.”
Just as you turned around again, he appeared in front of you once more.
“Darling little girl-”
“Don’t call me a little girl!” you seethed.
“Hm, touchy are we. Young one doesn’t like being called a pathetic...little...girl.” he towered over you. “And don’t even think about grabbing the dagger I know is strapped to your thigh...you won’t get to use it.”
“What are you?” your voice slightly wavered.
“Ardyn Izunia...is what I am.”
Ardyn, where have you heard that name. The man seemed to laugh as the look of realization crossed your face. King Ardyn? The ‘Father’ of all vampires. He cackled at your fear struck expression. Your father had told you stories of his evil.
“Ah the young princess Y/N knows of me?”
“How did you-”
“Know your name, love? Everyone knows of the, most beautiful, kindest and giving of her time. You should know better, how forgetful we are.” he raised an eyebrow.
“You stay away from me.” you warned.
“Hm are you’re guards going to come and kill me, love?”
“I have no guards...not anymore.” you found yourself saying. You had your hand on your thigh under the slit of your dress. You wrapped your hand around your dagger. “Leave me...now.”
“Hm...anymore? Why? Was the little princess disowned?” he laughed. “Did their royal highnesses finally get rid of their problem child?”
You suddenly felt small and inadequate. “That’s none of your business.”
“Oh yes you have.” he took a step towards you. “You’re all alone, with no one?” he cooed. “Which means there’s no one to hear you scream.”
“Hear me sc-”
You were tackled to the floor, your weapon flying out of your hand. Ardyn bared his fangs towards you...” You like when I choke you don’t you? “ he cackled as he tightened his hands around your throat. You felt dizzy, very...fucking..dizzy.
”I must admit, darling girl...you look so delectable. It’s a shame I must kill you...but a vampire must drink.” he moved his hands from your neck allowing you to inhale sharply.
With his arm wrapped around your wrist and bought your shaky arm to his mouth. You were too frozen to even try and move. Adryn inhaled your scent, smiling sadistically down at you.
You held in your pain as he sunk his needle like fangs into your skin. You wouldn’t scream or cry.
“...So...divine.” the man shuddered. “S-so...addicting.” Was that normal?
You had no idea why, but feeling this. It was supposed to be painful, it was supposed to be what happened before you died a terrible death. So why were you seeing images...images you shouldn’t have seen.
...
“You look so beautiful in the sun, my darling.” the man beside you caressed your face as you both laid in the gardens. “You are the most beautiful of my fledglings.”
“I’d just better be the only one you treat like this.”
“Trust me darling, there are other people who will sire for me...my fangs will only ever touch your skin...when I’m not feeding or killing.” he smirked. “Come, it’s been a busy day. Lay your head on my chest...rest with me.”
You laid on his chest, the sun casting a glare over your naked bodies. “Can I ask you a question, Ardyn? Is this whole laying naked in the sun a regular thing?”
“Clothes are for humans with no free time...Now hush my dear...rest.”
...
and everything else went black.
...
You awoke on a plush surface. It was soft and velvety. A large, black comforter was covering your body.
“Oh fuck, am I dead?” was your first thought. You swung your legs around the bed and planted your feet on the floor. Why were you so cold. You walked over to a vanity, standing in front of a mirror. Your arm was bandaged up. “No...I’m not dead.”
“You’re finally awake.”
You whipped around. Ardyn was sitting in an armchair wearing only a silk bathrobe. “I was beginning to think you’d never wake up.”
“W-what? What did you do to me?”
“I didn’t kill you, I know that much.” he rose from his seat.
“What?...Where am I??”
“My home...well. Our home now.” he walked towards you. “I know what you’re thinking-”
“You saw it too didn’t you?” you cut him off. “I know you know what it means...so tell me.”
“I’m not sure...all I know is that I couldn’t kill you. Before I knew it, I bit my own hand and made you take my own blood...I’ve never done that when changing someone.”
“Changing?!” you widened your eyes. “You...you PEICE OF!” you raised your fist when you realized just how clearly you could make out every crevice and divot on your hand and nails. “N-no this isn’t real!”
“Oh it is, my sweet.” he tiptoes his fingers up arm. You took a small step back, staring down at yourself.
“ What a gorgeous dress…but it’d look better torn to ribbons don’t you think? “ he grabbed your hands in his. “Stop resisting and accept your new fate.”
“I feel strange.” you expressed honestly. “Is it supposed to feel like this?” you stared up at him.
He tilted your head up, staring at your innocence.
“It can feel even better. Vampires are godly lovers...very few have laid with me...if you agree, you can be mine.”
(HAVE ANY MONBSTER REQUESTS? LET ME KNOW!!! IM TRYNA POST AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE THIS MONTH!!)

One thing I love most about the "You're not Merlin" scene from 'A servant of two masters' is the fact that it's basically a callback to Merlin and Morgana in 1x01. A royal getting completely naked behind the changing screen, talking to who they think is their servant but is actually their sibling's servant (or soon-to-be servant in Merlin's case and past servant in Gwen's case). And it just makes me think, you know, like what if Morgana had like Arthur walked out, naked, to look at Gwen, only to find Merlin standing there? The logical answer would likely be a lot of screaming, quick hiding and yelling for guards, especially since she didn't know him yet. But the much funnier option would be if she reacted the same way as Arthur. Just having her brain short circuit for a moment and then going "You're not Gwen". And Merlin being like "No. No, I'm not" (I was just gonna leave it at that but I had some time to spare and wrote a little OneShot to go with it lol. Enjoy.)
Why me, was all Merlin could think. Well, that and I should have knocked. He had almost been able to sneak out of the chambers of the Lady Morgana unnoticed, after trying to imitate her maid's voice and hiding behind a dress and whatnot to avoid being caught. But of course, of course, she had decided that she wanted to speak to her maid, and friend, face to face. She had walked out from behind the changing screen and locked eyes with Merlin. And as if that hadn't been bad enough, she had still not been dressed. The king's ward just walked out on him, completely nude. Merlin silently said goodbye to his life because surely, she would scream for the guards to take him to the dungeons and soon after to the chopping block because being caught in the same room as the naked ward of the king would surely cost him head. However, that wasn't what happened. She gave a surprised yelp and grabbed behind the screen, pulling out the gown she had taken off beforehand and pressing it against her body to cover the most important parts. She stared at him wide-eyed and in his quiet panic, all Merlin could do was stare back. A few second ticked by, in which neither said anything. Then Morgana narrowed her eyes. "You're not Gwen.", she stated the obvious. Merlin blinked a few times. "Errr... no. No, I- I just-" His thoughts raced, trying to figure out how to properly explain what exactly was going on. That he never meant to spy on her or get into this situation. His eyes fell on the sleeping draught he had brought and hastily went to pick it up, almost dropping it in the process. "I just came to deliver this. I- I'm new, I came to live with Gaius and- well." He interrupted himself, because he started to trip over his own words and also because he knew; every new word only made it seem more and more like a weak excuse. He could only hope and pray now that the Lady Morgana believed him and would let him go with a warning. "Oh.", she just said though. Oh? Merlin didn't know what to do with that. He gulped, placing the little bottle back on the wooden surface and averted his eyes. His cheeks were flushing more intensely with each passing second. He could feel Morgana's gaze on him. "Do you know where she is? Gwen, I mean.", she asked. Merlin dared to look up again, then slowly shook his head. "Hm.", Morgana only hummed in response. Merlin felt close to a mental breakdown. He wished the girl would just do something. Anything. Shout at him, tell him to get out, for god's sake, at this point, he'd even willingly let the guards take him to the dungeons. Even if he would hate to do that to Gaius. Though losing his head was almost a welcome idea, compared to the terrible uncertainty of this moment. Finally, after what felt like ages, the Lady Morgana opened her mouth again. "I would like to get dressed now." Merlin wanted to cry in relief. He could go. He could go and hopefully forget this incredibly awkward, embarrassing interaction. But no, he'd rejoiced to soon. "Are you familiar with fastenings?" He blinked in surprise and confusion, not realising what she wanted from him. He thought about it. Well, growing up with only a mother meant he had helped with a dress here and there at times. Though he doubted that the simple dresses of his mother were anything in comparison to the expensive, extravagant gowns of a princess. In his helplessness and under the scrutinizing eyes of the Lady Morgana, he only shrugged. "A little." Morgana nodded, as if to say good enough. "Wait there." Merlin's eyes widened and with rising panic, he watched as Morgana disappeared behind the changing screen again. The rustling of fabric indicated that she was putting on her other dress. Nervous sweat dampened the little hairs of Merlin's hairline. This couldn't possinly be really happening. "Alright, you can come.", her voice exclaimed from behind the screen. Merlin's heart near dropped into his pants but he didn't really know what else to do than listen. So, he walked over on wobbly knees and peeked behind the screen.
Upon seeing his cautious gaze, Morgana tilted her head. "Come on. My maid's obviously not here but you are. And considering you're fully dressed, you have an unfair advantage which I can't really allow." Feisty. Unusual for a girl of her standing but Merlin wasn't going to object. He just nodded and lifted his trembling hands to brush away some of her hair, which was even softer to the touch than it looked, and began to fiddle with the fastening. It took him twice as long as necessary and something definitely looked a bit off but he figured it would have to do and stepped back. Morgana shook her hair so that the long locks could freely flow down her body again. "Thank you.", she simply said, but a small smile danced around her lips. "Hm-mhm.", was all Merlin was able to get out. "My lady?" Both of them turned their heads to the door, through which Gwen had just entered, appearing to be rather confused at Merlin's presence. "Gwen!", Morgana greeted cheerily. Then she noticed the way her maid eyed Merlin. "Gwen, this is..." She trailed off, realising that she had never actually learned the name of the stranger who had shown up in her chambers. "Merlin.", he helped out. "But, uh, we know each other." He motioned between himself and Gwen. "Really?" Gwen nodded, hardly able to surpress a giggle. "We met while he was in the stocks." Morgana seemed bewildered for a moment, thinking that she had apparently allowed a criminal to help her with her dress. Gwen, who sensed her mistress's change of mood, quickly went to add: "He's the one who stood up to Arthur." Instantly, the other girl's face lit up again. "Oh, you are?" Merlin rubbed his neck, flustered. "Well..." "He's too humble. I saw it myself. It was very brave.", Gwen grinned, coming closer to the other two. Morgana looked at him with a smirk and a twinkle in her eye. "My, my, so Camelot's very own newest hero helped me with my fastening. I'm honored." The pink in Merlin's cheeks turned bright red. "I-", he croaked out. "I should probably go. Gaius- Gaius is probably waiting for me." Morgana laughed quietly. "You may go." He resisted the urge to exhale in relief and promptly marched towards the door with large steps. "Bye, Merlin.", Morgana's voice sounded one more time behind him. Despite his better instincts, he turned around once more and of course, ran into the doorframe. The two girls stiffled their laughter. Merlin let out a short, nervous chuckle and slipped out into the hallway. As soon as he was out, he allowed himself to breathe again. He wasn't sure how he'd managed to get out of that situation alive but he was glad he did. He just hoped he wouldn't have to step under the Lady Morgana's eyes again soon. Of course he didn't know yet that with his luck, he would earn an official job in the castle as Prince Arthur's manservant just a few hours later.

previous || series masterlist || blood son [sequel;one shot]
You run your hands through your hair and shut your eyes tight, the quietness and stillness of your shared apartment was something to bask on before you put on a fake mask of happiness. It had been exactly two months since you found out about the birth control switch and the medaide agenda.
In the span of those two months, you had grown more observant towards your boyfriend’s actions and you knew that it wouldn’t be anytime soon until he actually notices that you were onto him.
You let out a shaky breath as you recollected some weird things you’ve seem to have noticed, how his brows would furrow when he’d receive a call indicating that something was up and it was serious or how you visited your ex-boss one time a week or so ago along with Kenjiro since you wanted to see how he was doing.
“...Well, he just didn’t come home and sold the place. Apparently he was in a rush to move or something because of family matters so I didn’t exactly see him.” the neighbor gossiped to you two.
“Y/N?”
You jump on your spot as you hear that dreadfully familiar voice.
“Hey,” You greet, walking up to him, you decide to do your usual hug but stop when you notice a small red stain on his necktie, the tie is dark blue and although it wasn’t obvious from afar, it definitely was up close. Your brows are furrowed together, this time in pure curiosity, “Did you get hurt? It’s unlike you to get messy.”
You notice the quick shift of attitude in his eyes, you were seemingly getting good at observing his emotions these days and it looked like he panicked for a second there.
Odd.
“A friend of mine had gotten hurt a while ago, you remember Atsumu Miya?”
A vivid image of a blonde man crossed your mind, he was another conglomerate friend of your boyfriend, another person to be weary of to add to the list, “Oh, is he alright?” you asked, trying to keep it casual as you untie his tie for him as usual.
“Yes. He’s awfully clumsy. You don’t need to worry.”
“Oh…” You mumbled, “by the way, I visited my ex-chief.”
“Ex-chief?”
“Mhm.” you hummed, “You know, my boss from before? Me and a few co-workers decided to visit him since he was a really good boss. Turns out he just left without telling anyone, poor man.”
“Sounds unpleasant. Did you know why he quit?”
“No.” You shrugged as you take the tie out and place it on the side, “He suddenly just quit his job and moved, neighbors said it was also because of family matters. It’s kinda weird because as far as we knew, he didn’t have a family.”
“Would you like me to look into it?”
You almost stiffen when he slithers his arms on your waist but you didn’t want to give away any suspicion, “No. I don’t want to pry. Hopefully he’s enjoying his retirement.” You sighed, turning towards him with a tight smile, “Now what would you like for dinner? I was thinking Mediterranean? I need to lose some weight since I’ve been feeling bloated for a while.”
He leans in for a soft kiss on your temple, “Mediterranean would be fine. Would you like anything else? We could order more.” he hummed, his lips slowly started to dangerously hover on top of yours.
“No, it’s fine.” You give him a quick peck and wiggle your way out of his arms, your stomach doesn’t feel well these days. Whenever you were near Sakusa you had the urge to throw up your innards despite having an empty stomach.
You don’t notice the dangerous gaze on your behind as you pick up the phone for your take-out.
Sakusa hasn’t felt you in a long time and it’s driving him insane, he wants to feel your heat, your body, and everything in between. He wants to fill you up and see you pregnant with his children. He wants everyone in the world to know you were his and his only.
Yet he can’t do that.
You’ve ignored his affections these past few weeks and it had been driving him insane to the point where he had to ask one of his men to put an eye on you to see if you had been cheating on him or seeing someone else.
Yet you hadn’t.
Your routine was the same old one and Sakusa is digging his nails deeply into his skin in his office one day with his tie uncharacteristically untied. Miya Atsumu sits across him, taking a sip from his flask, “Ya look like shit.” the blonde points out.
“Fuck off, Miya.”
“Heard from your cousin that you’re not getting laid by your girl these days.”
“You better be thankful that you’ve got men behind you or I’d be shooting your fucking brains out for saying that.” Sakusa spats, his dark gaze pointedly looking at the blonde across him.
“You should just find someone else then and not yer prude of a-”
“Keep telling me ideas like that and maybe I might just shoot you and chop your body up until it looks fuckin’ unrecognizable.”
Atsumu raises his hands up, signaling that he was giving up, “Gee, omi-omi. I was just giving my advise. It’s so easy to drop her.”
“I don’t want to drop what’s mine.”
“You’ve got issues.” He chuckles, “Haven’t you been switching out her pills and fucking her raw for the last couple of months? I bet yer ass you got her pregnant on that before but ya just don’t know it. Getting her pregnant would definitely secure her spot in her life. Woman’s nuthin’ without ya.”
“She’s...she’s not showing…”
“When was the last time ya two went at it?”
“Two months ago.”
“Ya poor boy.” Atsumu sighs, shaking his head, “Ya sure you don’t want to take a break from being a loyal boyfriend for one night? i bet Y/N wouldn’t notice.”
“And no one would notice if you fucking disappeared. I’ll make sure of it, now get out.”
You may not have been the sharpest tool on the shed but you know that someone’s been tailing you these past few days, you’re not stupid. You could only come to the conclusion that it was Sakusa who was doing such things but you couldn’t get why.
Something just didn’t make sense. It felt like you were missing an important piece in the puzzle, med-aide and the switch of your pills and now a hidden tail?
You furrow your brows together in deep thought as you sat down next to a teenage boy on his phone, you decided to take the bus today to the grocery store, surprisingly the one tailing you wasn’t around today.
Your eyes slowly shift towards the boy’s phone, it seemed like he was playing a video game.
An otome game, to be exact.
You felt your lips twitch up, you remembered those games a lot growing up. The graphics seem to have massively improved now by the looks of it, “...That looks interesting.” You tell the teenage boy who turns to you in surprise.
“Oh, thanks.” the blonde replied quietly.
“Is that a new otome game?”
“Kind of.” He blinks, his gaze returning back to the screen, “It’s sort of a remake of the yandere simulator from back then.”
You feel your shoulders tense up.
“A yandere?”
“Yeah.” The blonde nods, “The girl’s awfully creepy in the game, she stalks him, does things to get him. The player has to catch her in the act and evade her at the same time.”
“Oh…” You blink, “I-uh, this is weird… but what’s a yandere again?’
“It’s someone obsessively in love with you. They’ll do anything to have you stay by them.” He says, pushing on a button but suddenly the screen turns red and you feel shivers run down your spine as you hear him curse and the words ‘you’re caught’ appear on the screen.
“W-what happened to your character?”
“He died. Nothing much.” he mumbles, “If the Yandere knows they can’t have you, they’ll kill you.”
You immediately went pale as soon as you heard that. Maybe, just maybe you were being paranoid. He wouldn’t go to that extent, would he?
“How did your character escape the yandere in the game?”
“Well, I haven’t finished the game yet but based on some anime’s and manga’s I've usually read. They either killed to get away or they moved so far away where they wouldn’t be seen so I think the creator might have the same ending.” The blonde said, he slowly looked to your side, “You’re looking awfully pale, ma’am. Are you alright?”
“Yeah, j-just remembered a horrible game I played back when I was your age.” You gulped in, “Nightmares, you know? The yandere tried to get my character pregnant and tried to get in her way of moving out of the country.”
“Sounds like a very realistic one.” He mumbles, “What did your character do?”
“I wasn’t able to finish it.” you whispered, loud enough for him to only hear, “I couldn’t really find a way out.”
“The developers of the game must’ve made it hard for you. Maybe your character should’ve ran away,” he advised, “Or better yet, you should’ve killed him.”
“I-well, I don't think there were options like that.”
“Well if I were you and there was no option for killing, I’d run. Far, far away. Change my identity and all that.” he exits the game and stuffs the phone back in his pocket, you get a good look of his cat-like eyes and immediately feel a shiver on your spine with the next words he say, “I mean its a game but you wouldn’t wanna loose and get your character killed, right?”
“R-right.”
The teenage boy hops down without even saying goodbye and you have a scary realization that you can’t break it off like you originally had planned. You needed to run, run far as you can and get lost.
The words that the teenage boy says echoes in your head for the next few days, from that point on, realization dawns upon you that, nothing is certain now. You couldn’t trust anyone, you couldn’t let friends and family be involved in this. Sakusa Kiyoomi is a powerful man so you needed to be careful with how you were going to disappear.
You continue to act nonchalant and the same as you try to lay out your plan but you knew that you had only a week or so to complete this for it to successfully work.
Sakusa Kiyoomi wonders what he should do to save the relationship, he’s tried everything in the book that he could think of but you remained the same. Was this the end of the relationship? For real?
He could never stomach the idea of having you leave him.
It’s eerie that day, something felt different when he came home to an empty apartment. It looked the same yet something felt very, very different. Apparently the apartment guards said you were here since your car hadn’t left the driveway and they hadn’t seen you go out.
He checks out your side of the closet, your clothes remain there untouched and your toiletries were there too. He scans the fridge for your notes but nothing is stuck there. He suddenly feels like something cold was dumped on him.
It couldn’t be, right?
Right?
He runs to every room, checking every nook and cranny and when he finally reaches the last room which was the bathroom, nothing is there.
Everything was in its place except you.
Where were you?
Your bank account remains untouched, your wallet and phone was left in the apartment. It was as if you were returning home, the very least. Komori tells him to calm down, saying that they’re letting the best people find you around the city, they don’t rule out that someone might’ve had the audacity to touch you.
Whoever took you would be given hell to pay, that’s for sure. Was it the triad? Kkangpae’s? Or opposing yakuza’s? Oh, they’ll definitely have their heads on the platter if they tried to harm a single hair on your head.
Sakusa doesn’t even hesitate to notify the police about you already despite the memorandum that twenty-four hours is needed to consider a person missing, it's nothing a little money can fix.
“I hope we find her soon.” Your aunt sighed, “I’ve notified her parents about it. It’s definitely weird that she’d leave all her valuables behind.”
Hinata and Natsu sit there next to their mom, completely sad and worried, “I’ve hired the best people for it already, obaasan. We’ll find Y/N.” Sakusa replies yet his thoughts are in a complete frenzy now.
And find you they did.
No stone was left unturned. He made sure of it. Yet after a month of relentless searching. Nothing came up, it seemed like you had just vanished and Sakusa Kiyoomi had turned the whole underground world upside down for you but nothing came up.
Some say that you disappeared and ran away but that was immediately ruled out, no security cameras saw you in and out during that day and it would be impossible for you to just leave without security cameras on you. The guard had exclaimed that despite the blackout that day, the generators only took a few minutes to power up so they’d definitely catch you on camera in case you ever exited the building (along with the guards since they knew exactly what you looked liked) plus the clothes and such were still there, left untouched.
Some said you died, it was definitely impossible for you to just vanish without a single trace after all since everyone was looking for you.
Yet no one dared to say it in front of the boss, not if they valued their life.
The billionaire had dried out his connections to find you. What good was it to be the most powerful and richest man in the country if he couldn’t find you? Life had no meaning now, you were gone. It felt like a part of him was ceasing to function.
Sakusa Kiyoomi was a dead man walking now.
Unknown to the whole world, you’re in a small town with little to no signal. Your hair is chopped unevenly and your skin is darker from the repeated exposure under the sun, your life is simple and mundane now yet you’re happy.
For the first time in months, you actually felt free.
You shut your eyes tight, the events that transpired this past few months replayed in your head. Your escape was definitely done as carefully as you can and you didn’t even know if you’d succeed since you weren’t a master in that sort of thing.
You recalled that it was a week before you ran away, a few days after you met that kid in the bus. Someone from the electric company had come to inform you that there was a scheduled black out in the city that day during the afternoon and you felt something bubble up in you. That was the day you’d put your plan into motion.
You knew that the longer you delayed your plan, the harder it would be to escape.
You had a few minutes to actually put your plan to work. The camera’s on the hallways would cease to function for a few minutes according to the guard downstairs as he did a protocol on the building (apparently the generators were quick). So that morning after Sakusa left, you placed only a few clothes and the stash of money you had been carefully hiding in a garbage bag and chopped your hair short in an uneven manner. Burning all the remaining hair on the fireplace and the black hair color that you use with it. The maid uniform that you stole on your floor and a fake name plate that you made was on and you were good to go.
The minute the black out started, you took the garbage bag and walked out. Taking the stairway used by the caretakers, you made sure to just look down and never directly up at the camera’s pretending to work.
When you finally made it out of your building. You let out a stiff sigh and put down the bag, it was only the beginning. If you thought the same way as Sakusa Kiyoomi, you could only imagine that you needed to be more careful from this point on.
You take the newly bought duffel bag that you strategically hid behind some boxes. Thankfully when you had placed it yesterday afternoon, it hadn’t been touched.
You put on a pair of shorts and a baggy shirt with cheap shades and stuffed the maid uniform in the duffel bag along with your belongings in the garbage bag. You take the other route that led to the busy streets. It was easy to look like a tourist and seemingly blend in the crowd, from that point on, you only had one destination in mind.
When you were younger, you vividly remember an acquaintance telling you about this small town outside of Tokyo where her grandparents were from. It was only an hour away via plane and when you went down another few hours via bus yet if you took the bus route all in all, it would take a few days.
Since it was far, only a few busses actually went there and since you had to leave within the day, you decided to just take the bus nearest to that town and take another bus when you arrived there.
The plan smooth-sailed from that point on.
Except for one minor detail.
You open your eyes and look down at your now small bump. The monster who almost had you trapped left a parting gift, you grip your garden hoe tightly.
A big part of you wanted to kill it.
Yet every time you try to, you hesitate.
The moment you arrived here, you had to pretend to be a weary and poor widow. You just didn’t expect to be a weary and poor expecting widow. You let out an uncharted sigh at the thought, it was hard enough to be alone here with little to no money.
This child had the demon’s blood in it.
Yes, you may have gone free from his cage but in truth with his seed growing in your stomach day by day, you started to feel quite the opposite.

DRUMMER BOY.
pairings: drummer!bakugou x fem!reader
warnings: a bit of swearing, fluff and bad writing, band!au
prompt(s): it’s a song prompt (v cheesy ik) the song is misery business by paramore.
part two.
not my gif !
—
“guys!” yelled a certain pink haired girl, as she chaotically ran into the stores back room to alert her friends of the newly aquired news she may or may not have learned two minutes prior. her friends, all on their lunch break, stopped what they were doing to look up to the girl who was practically jumping out of her skin.
“are you okay, mina? is there a reason you almost broke a rib trying to get through the door frame?” jirou raised a brow, looking up from her phone to entertain mina’s obvious excitement. mina squealed, trying to somewhat contain herself.
“can you get to the point already, dumbass?!” bakugou growled.
“yeah, mina,” kirishima added, “what’s got you so jumpy?”
mina sighed, somewhat dramatically, before she (finally) told her friends what she was so happy about, “so, guys, remember how we wanted to play a show at that lounge a couple blocks over?” her friends nodded before she continued, “they finally called back! the manager said it’s a yes!”
“no way.” jirou stood up.
“that’s great!” kaminari spoke up.
“yeah, no kidding! they approved of the songs?” kirishima inquired.
mina nodded, “yeah! i sent them them the lyrics to a couple of our songs, and they said that they didn’t mind which ones we played, but they’d really like if we played misery business. they’re even gonna pay us!”
“wait... isn’t that the song that you and jirou couldn’t get the vocals right to?” kaminari puzzled.
it went quiet for a second before bakugou groaned, “oh look, the pink freak didn’t think before she acted! what a surprise.”
“hey! don’t blame me i th-“
mina was cut off by bakugou’s thunderous yelling, “don’t blame you?! who else are we gonna blame?! you’re the one who sent in the request form!”
“guys, calm down,” kirishima laughed nervously, “i’m sure it’ll be fine. we could just change the chords of the song to compliment jirou’s vocal range.”
kaminari cut in, “or... no offense, maybe we could find somebody else with that vocal range to sing it for her. jirou already plays bass— oh! what about sero? we could ask him if he could-“
“no, dumbass, sero said he didn’t wanna be apart of the band anymore, remember?” bakugou grumbled.
before the group could think of anymore solutions, the bell on the front counter rang, followed by a voice calling out a to someone who could potentially help them checkout, “um... hello? is anyone back there?”
jirou sighed as she got up from the black leather couch that complimented the break room, “i’ll go help them. break is over anyways.” as jirou emerged from the back room, her eyes widened slightly as she spotted you holding a red, six stringed electric bass guitar. well, five strings actually, since it seemed that there was one missing.
“hi! sorry to keep you waiting, how can i help you today?” jirou smiled, walking behind the counter and taking in your features. you seemed like a shy type of girl... even if you weren’t, just by looking at you, she wouldn’t have suspected that you played electric guitar. your eyes looked so soft and your hands so delicate as they wrapped around the neck of the guitar. your clothes as well. as much as she didn’t want to stereotype, the clothes that adorned your body didn’t give in to the ‘edgy guitarist’ aesthetic that the guitar itself did. besides all that, she couldn’t help but to feel you looked oddly familiar.
“yeah actually, haha. i saw on the sign outside that you guys do string repairs? my ‘a’ string snapped a couple days ago..” you explained to the raven haired girl behind the counter.
jirou nodded, “yeah, of course! we’re actually having a sale right now, so if you’d like to get all you string replaced, it’d only cost $10.”
“oh? hell yeah, thanks. i’ve never taken myself to get my strings repaired, though... does it take long? should i leave and come back?” you trailed off.
she shook her head, “nah, all these should only take about ten minutes max.”
—
“so, what’s your name?” jirou made easy conversation as she began repairing your strings.
“i’m y/n, nice to meet you... jirou?” you read her name tag.
she let out a small chuckle and nodded, “you as well. so, you in a band or something?”
“oh! no, i’ve thought about starting one before, but i don’t really have anyone to do so with. i write songs and play them on haru.” you explained.
“haru?”
“yeah, that’s her name.”
jirou chuckled once more, “you named your bass?”
“uh— duh.” you playfully rolled your eyes before another figure stepped from the back room, catching your attention.
“oh.” muttered the blonde.
jirou turned to look behind her, “oh, hey bakugou. is there anything you needed?”
the boy ignored her and walked towards the counter, “you play bass?” he asked you. crimson eyes boring into your y/e/c ones.
“y-yes. not a lot... just here and there when i think it’ll compliment one of my songs.” you verified.
“you write songs?” bakugou questioned.
“only when i’m bored-“
“what kind of songs are th-“
“katsuki! stop questioning her, this isn’t a police interrogation!” jirou interjected.
“what! don’t we need another person to sing that song? i’m trying to look for options.” he shrugged.
you furrowed your brows, “you guys are a band?”
“yeah, there’s more of us. they’re in the break room though.” jirou shared. “it’s just... okay, we have this ‘gig’ soon, and one of our members entered us in under a song that we can’t seem to get right. and it’s just our luck that, that’s the song the managers would likes us to sing especially.”
you tilted your head leaning on the counter as she spoke. as you did so, bakugou studied your features— just as jirou had done minutes before. he found you interesting. just as jirou had thought, he also didn’t see you as the type to play the electric guitar out of all the different types available.
“you don’t look like the type to play.” he blurted out.
“katsuki-!” jirou sighed.
“what?! she doesn’t. she’s so... average looking.” he reckoned.
your face dropped immediately and you turned to look at him, “excuse me? what’s that supposed to mean?”
“it’s not a bad thing,” he began, “i’m just saying that you don’t look like the other people who come in her with these types of guitars.”
you subtly rolled your eyes before looking back to jirou, “so, what lounge are you supposed to be playing at?”
“the one a few blocks from here. it’s called ‘rolling red’ i believe.” she replied.
“oh! i’ve played there before!”
the two employees looked at you with furrowed brows, “you have?!”
the sudden realization crashed on top of jirou as soon as the words left her mouth, “that’s where i know you from! i’ve seen you play before! you played that cover of frances forever by mitski! i loved it, i thought about it for days after!”
you looked down at your feet as you felt your cheeks heat up, “th-thank you. i didn’t think it was that good..”
“well it was-! dude, you should totally sing for our band when we play our gig!” the usually laid back girl was brimming with happiness at the thought of finding their replacement singer on such short notice.
“i-i don’t know-“
before you could finish, you felt someone wrap their arms around your shoulders, “oh come on! you’d be great! your voice would sound great with the songs we have picked out!” you spot the pink toned arms around you and turn around.
“where did she come from?” you mumbled.
“so, what do you say? it’ll only be a one time thing.” jirou smiled hopefully.
you sighed and looked at the (now three) employees in front of you, “okay— w-wait. when is the gig anyways?”
“two weeks away.” the pink girl giggled.
“well... i guess it wouldn’t hurt.” you shrugged.
“really?! thank you!” mina engulfed you in a hug.
“yeah, don’t mention it.” you smiled.
jirou grinned and handed you your guitar, “meet us back here tomorrow. we can start our first official practice.”
you nodded, grabbing your wallet beginning to pay for the string repair before a hand fell over yours, “don’t bother. you agreeing to do this for us is payment enough... i- i guess.” bakugou hesitantly ensured.
you thanked the employees before exiting the store with a grin adorning your face. you barely knew these people, but you couldn’t help but to be the least bit excited.
—
“so, do you get it?” mina asked as she helped you understand the chords to the song.
you tilted your head in slight confusion, “uh... i think so? i’ve just never played so... aggressively? no offense.”
it was the next day and you were currently in one of the practice rooms in the back of the music store. you’d formally met everyone and it seemed that the rest of the band were cool with having you as their replacement singer. kirishima and kaminari thought you were pretty nice. bakugou said you were “pretty cool... i guess.”, but it was obvious that jirou and mina adored you the most. you weren’t too shy, you just weren’t rowdy. you weren’t too quiet, you just only spoke when spoken to out of fear of being too a annoying for the band.
“okay, let’s try again then?” jirou smiled and you nodded, placing your fingers on the strings and praying you didn’t mess up again. though it was your first time hearing the song and learning the chords, you were doing fairly well. you knew the chords and how to play them, it was just the aggressiveness in which you were supposed to play that you were screwing up on.
you sighed as you heard bakugou give the infamous drummer count off, and began to play. you weren’t using a pick, so you felt the tips of your thumb and index began to beat up as you strummed the strings quickly and found the tempo. you counted the amount of times you’d screw up by the end. the total being only seven. not bad for a four minute song.
“that wasn’t bad, y/n!” you heard kaminari compliment you.
“yeah, you did a lot better this time! it’s like you’ve already memorized everything and we’ve only been practicing for about three hours.” mina added.
you smiled at the two, “thanks, guys. really. i tried to relax more this time, so i only messed up... seven times. i think.”
“you counted?” jirou asked as she took a sip of her water.
“yeah, the last time we did it, i messed up nine times, but i found out what it was i was doing wrong and fixed it, now i only have seven more errors to correct.” you explained.
“well look at you go! at this rate, we’ll be practicing with the lyrics by this evening.” mina praised.
unlike the other four, bakugou didn’t say anything about how well you were doing. he couldn’t really bring himself to say anything to you. it wasn’t like he was embarrassed or anything; more like he was nervous to. the whole time you’d all been practicing he’d been watching your facial expressions change as you played he chords on your guitar. he could tell that you were feeling it, and that made him feel something.
—
“i’m in the business of misery, let’s take it from the top. she’s got a body like an hourglass, it’s ticking like a clock.” you mumbled the lyrics to the song as you shadow played the chords. you were liking the song so far. it wasn’t something you usually played and you liked that. you sat in the corner of the practice room as everyone took their break. either going to use the bathroom or just walking around the shop to stretch their legs. you decided on staying back and practicing the lyrics on your own before you did in front of everyone else. the thought of embarrassing yourself loomed in the back of your mind and you were absolutely terrified of it. you didn’t care if it was a rehearsal or not. embarrassing yourself was, simply, not an option.
“you sound nice.” and deeper voice spoke.
startled, you looked up from the notepad of lyrics in front of you and up to the door where, there stood bakugou; hands shoved in his pockets as he leaned against the doorframe.
“o-oh. thank you...” you muttered.
“i think i know where you keep messing up at on the chords.” he quipped.
“you do? but how? you play drums.”
he scoffed light heartedly, “just because i play drums doesn’t mean i’m oblivious to the workings and notes of other instruments.”
“oh...” you voiced, looking at the floor below you.
“here, let me see it.”
“see what?”
“your guitar, dumbass. i’m going to help you.”
you handed the boy your guitar and followed his figure with your eyes as he sat down next to you.
“after the third eight-count, your finger placement is off. i can hear it.” he stated as he began placing his finger on the strings.
“oh no... it was that obvious?” you whined burying your face in your hands. so much for embarrassment not being an option.
“stop whining, dumbass. it’s not that bad, but you can still tell that there’s something off.” he expressed, “now look, you have the right idea. but the wrong action. it’s not much, just move your finger up the neck a bit more.” bakugou strummed the note and looked back up at you, “like that. now you try.” he instructed handing you the guitar.
“okay...” copying the boys previous actions, you place your fingers on the strings. sliding your middle finger up the neck a bit, just as he’d instructed. you stunned the note and looked at him for approval.
“perf— good.” bakugou complimented hesitantly.
“mhm... thank you.” you have him a slight smile.
he nodded as he got up and headed towards the door, “if you want... i can start helping you with things like this privately. like... like we did just now. if you want, though. i don’t really care. just a suggestion.”
you nodded vigorously, “yes please. i like the way you teach.”
“o-oh... okay... well just give me your number and i can text you when we leave. or we can stay after.” bakugou suggested. the crimson eyed boy was slightly taken aback. he didn’t really expect you to say yes to him “tutoring” you. not like he was complaining though, he actually may or may not have enjoyed your company.
“can we stay after?” you asked.
he shrugged, “if that’s what you’d like.”
—
“bye guys! bakugou, remember to lock up.” kirishima waved as he and the rest of the group made their separate ways home. as for you and bakugou? you two had some after hours lessons to attend to.
the two of you made your ways back to the practice rooms.
upon entering, bakugou closed the door and turned to you, “do you want to start where we left off?”
you nodded, “yeah. after the third eight-count.”
bakugou sat down in the corner from earlier and patted the spot next to him, signaling for you to sit next to him. you complied and sat next to the blonde handing him your guitar.
“the part after the one we practiced earlier... the part where theres singing and then there’s just instrumental? can we work on that part?” you pleaded.
bakugou felt his cheeks heat up as he looked at you so find your eyes staring back into his. there was something about your eyes that made him feel warm. the feeling that your gaze gave him made him feel safe, “y- sure. okay it for me and we can start from there.”
—
it was about 8pm when the two of you decided that you’d practiced enough for the day. you helped him clean up around she shop before locking up and walking you home.
“you don’t have to, you know.” you expressed to him.
“it’s the right thing to do. i’m not just gonna let you walk home alone in the dark, dumbass.” he replied looking straight ahead.
it was quiet after that, until you walked past a convenience store, “i’m gonna go in to get something. i haven’t eaten since breakfast and i’m starving.” you let out a breathy laugh as you turned to walk in.
“eh?! dumbass, you need to eat properly. come on, i’ll but you some dinner. you don’t need to eat from a convenience store.” bakugou reprimanded. “follow me.” the two of you took a detour to a restaurant not too far away from where you guys were currently at.
“you don’t have to do this. i’m fine with getting something quick and cheap—“
“no,” he cut you off, “you need to eat properly. we won’t be long.”
—
onigiri in hand, the two of you continued your walk home in a comfortable silence as the two of you ate.
“thank you,” you said looking up at him.
bakugou glanced down at you before looking back up, “yeah, no problem.”
“we can stop here, my house is only around the corner. i’ll be fine on my own for now.”
bakugou nodded slightly, “yeah uh... sure. make sure to come to the shop tomorrow.”
you looked at the blonde in slight confusion, “huh? it’s closed tomorrow, is it not?”
“yeah,” he began, “but we still have to work through some of your screw ups. meet me there no later than noon.” he stated before walking away.
you silently agreed before turning away and walking the remainder of the way to your house alone.
—
“y/n, it’s been a bit more than a week since we’ve started these practices and you still don’t have that note down!” bakugou snapped. you two had been practcing with each other for a bit of a while now, and during that time you’ve gotten a bit more comfortable with each other.
“you idiot, i’m trying! you have to understand that i’m not used to singing notes on that octave.” you said rubbing your temples.
“okay, we’ll get used to it! you have two more days to get it right.” katsuki grumbled. “if you don’t, you’re going to embarrass yourself, dumbass.”
you narrowed your eyes at him, though, he was right. the note you were trying to hit wasn’t that hard. you could do it— you knew you could.
“you guys alright in here?”
you looked up to find mina at the door, peaking her head in from the outside.
“what the hell? i thought your alien ass went home.” bakugou stated.
“i could say the same about you guys. i went home and realized i forgot my charger, but you both should go home. it’s nearly ten pm. get some rest.” mina noted.
“ten pm?!” you exclaimed, quickly jumping up.
“holy shit!” bakugou chimed in grabbing his things.
the two of you exited the practice rooms and made your way to the front of the store. as you began to exit, the boy was quick to stop you, “h-hey—! don’t be so quick to leave. i still have to walk you home, y’know.”
you let go of the door and looked back at the male, “well come on then.”
the two of you waved goodbye to mina before taking the oath to your house. upon arriving, you felt bakugou’s hand ok your shoulder, “we won’t be able to practice tomorrow, we all have things to do, so make sure you work on that note, dumbass. we don’t need you screwing up.”
you nodded before walking to your door, “goodnight, bakugou.”
—
the day of the gig was finally here and though you told katsuki that’s you’d practice, you never did. that being said, you still hadn’t attempted to hit that high note. it was too late, though. you were now sitting backstage waiting for your guys’ turn.
“i’m nervous..” mina admitted as she paced back and forth.
“why?” jirou raised a brow in confusion, “we’ve practiced a lot these past few days. we’ve got this in the bag. if y/n worked out the thing with her high note, we shouldn’t be worried about anything. let’s just pretend this is another rehearsal.” the girl smiled.
the mentioning of your high high note mad your stomach churn. you hadn’t told them you didn’t practice in fear of coming off as irresponsible.
“yeah, we’ve been sounding really good! we got this, guys. besides, we’re up next so you’d probably want to try and calm down.” kaminari tried to somewhat comfort the pink skinned girl.
meanwhile, you were chewing your nails down to the cuticle. all of your practicing had led up to this moment and bakugou could tell you were nervous. he watched as your leg bounced up and down and you spit out the pieces of nail you’d bite off.
“hey, dumba— er... y/n,” bakugou prattled, walking over to and placing a hand on your shoulder, “calm down, yeah? you’re gonna do fine. i-... i believe in your dumbass... i-i guess.” he trailed off.
your soft eyes looked into his narrowed ones, your face softening at his comforting (?) words. you nodded, and as if on cue, the six of you were called onto stage.
—
this was it. this was what you’d practiced for. you looked out into the ‘crowd’; there were a lot of people for this just being a bar and lounge. maybe because it was a saturday? or, maybe you were just seeing blurry. whatever it was, you didn’t have time to worry about it as the sound of bakugou’s infamous drummer count off filled your ears.
you took a deep breath, one last chance to calm your nerves before you started to strum the notes on your guitar.
you counted off the final eighth of the instrumental and began to sing, “i’m in the business of misery, let’s take it from the top. she’s got a body like an hour glass it’s tickin like clock. it’s a matter of time before we all run out, when i thought he was mine, she grabbed him by the mouth,”
you have a jirou a look out the corner of your eye and was met with her approving, close-lipped smile. looking over to mina, you were meg with the same smile, only wider and toothier.
you took that as a sign and pulled yourself together, hands still sweaty from your nerves being a wreck, “i waited eight long months, she finally set him free. i told him i can’t lie, he was the only one for me. two weeks and we had caught on fire, she’s got it out for me, but i wear the biggest smile,”
so far, so good. you hadn’t had a voice crack (yet), and as the song went on you could feel your anxiety washing away. the song continued and it seemed the crowd was enjoying it quite a lot. you liked seeing the smiles on their faces, it made you happy. though, your smile quickly faded when you realized what part was coming. the part you took upon yourself to not practice for. your mind started to race; the note isn’t that hard to hit. you’ve hit notes like this before— that was a lie. but, hey, you’ve hit notes close to it before ! soon, there was no more time for you to think about it. it was now or never, and it wasn’t like you could just skip the part all together.
without a second thought, you scraped together the little courage you find in yourself and sang, “but god, does it feel so good. cause i’ve got ‘em where i want him now. and if you could, then you know you would, cause god, it just feels so... it just feels so good.”
your eyes widened as the final lyrics left your mouth. you did it— who are you kidding, of course you did. you knew you had it in you. and with that, the crowd cheered. you let go of the microphone stand that you didn’t even remember grabbing hold of, and smiled. in a matter of second you felt arms around you.
“you did amazing, y/n!” jirou congratulated.
“you sounded great!” mina added with a wide grin.
you smiled and hugged the two girls back, “thanks guys...”
—
the six of you eventaully made your ways back to backstage.
“did you guys see how everyone applauded?! they loved us out there!” kaminari grinned. the rest of you nodded, giving each other compliments on how well they played. you looked over to find bakugou looking at you. you smiled, walking over to sit next to him.
“you... you did good, dumbass,” he gave you a subtle smile, “if i’m being honest, i didn’t think you were gonna do it.”
you chuckled a bit before looking up at him, “would you believe me if i said i didn’t either?”
the blonde shook his head, “hell no. you let go of your bass and everything. you knew you were gonna hit it. there was too much confidence in your movements to say otherwise.”
“thank you.” you said after a few moments of silence between you two.
“yeah, whatever.”
“no, seriously,” you said putting a hand on his shoulder. he felt his cheeks heat up as he looked into your eyes. they had the same sincere look the always did, “you’re a great teacher. and i could tell you genuinely believed in me. that made it easier to preform.”
bakugou was silent for a second, “yeah. anytime..”
you engulfed the boy into a hug before you began towards the rest of the band.
“oh uh, y/n?”
you turned around, “hm?”
“you should consider joining the band... we could use you here. and you’re... cool to hand around. i-i guess, i uh... like having you around and you’re talented or whatever... so yeah.”
you smiled, “are you sure you just don’t want to keep me around a bit longer for your own sake?” you teased.
“wh-what?! hell no, dumbass. you’re delusional.” bakugou retorted.
“mhm, whatever. in any case, i’ll think about it, cutie.”
—
idk of i want to leave this open ended, or make a second part- lmk? :) anyways, hope you enjoyed !

The Unexpected Reward - Chapter 7
Summary: Natsu and Lucy go on a job together, but what they bring home is something neither anticipated. Forced to make a life changing decision, they have to adapt quickly, but that's never easy, especially given the circumstances. As they work together on their toughest adventure yet, they find themselves drawn to one another, in ways they never realised. Nalu/cute/fluff/multi-chapter
It was early afternoon by the time the little family had left for the guild. Natsu, being a bit quieter than usual, still couldn't shake what had been playing on his mind all morning. Usually, he would talk to Lucy about anything, but this was unknown territory. He didn't want to upset her, but this was going to end badly, he could just tell.
They hadn't discussed work since returning with Haru and he just didn't know what to do about it. His head was spinning from all the thinking and it was making his stomach churn. Stress was something he use to just pass off with his act now, think later tactic, but now he had others to consider. He'd gladly take on a hundred Acnologia's then have to think about all of this, he was better with actions.
Speaking of, fighting was an excellent stress reliever, what a great way to clear his head. He knew exactly what he was going to do once they reached the guild. He hoped Gray would be there so he could punch seven colours of shit out of him and then anyone else who was willing. Within minutes of arriving, Natsu had spotted Gray, ran over to him and swung the first punch and the rest was history.
Lucy shook her head at the fire breather's antics and chose to stay out of the way. She walked over to the bar and sat with some of the other girls who also hadn't joined the mayhem. Haru had woken up from all the noise and was being passed from person to person, all commenting on how well he was doing. Happy as Lucy was to hear all of the nice compliments about the baby and what a good job her and Natsu were doing, she wasn't really paying attention, too busy watching Natsu be beaten and scolded by Erza.
It sounded silly, but Lucy felt a little strange without the fire mages company. They had spent the last two weeks with each other and she'd gotten use to his constant presence, to the point where she missed him being near her. It was nonsensical, there he was as clear as day, and yet she felt so distant from him.
She could see that their friendship was slowly evolving, they had shared many moments recently with each other that wouldn't be considered friendly, the hand holding, the cuddling, the kissing, it had all become very real once they'd started living together.
There was only one thing missing though, because people just kept interrupting them. She wished she could have kissed him properly last night before Happy, yet again, ruined it all. His lips had felt so good on hers, she could only imagine what they would feel like on other parts of her body…
"See something you like?" Mira giggled as she happily watched the spirit mage ogle the dragon slayer. "Or do I really need to ask?"
"Huh? Oh, I was, er-" Snapping out of her lust filled thoughts, with the biggest blush on her face and little sweat droplets forming on her brow. "I don't know what you're talking about." She said dismissively, turning to face them directly.
"Sure. Is that what you tell yourself when you're cuddled up to him? Or cook him dinner? Or when you sit in his lap and kiss him?" Cana wiggled her eyebrows and laughed at poor Lucy's mortified face.
"What?! Who told you all of that?!" Lucy cried out. She couldn't hide the horror from her voice. Thinking about it for a moment, she didn't really need to ask who'd told them, it was kinda obvious and she was going to kill him.
"So it is true? I knew it! A certain little blue birdy told Mira and naturally everyone now knows." Levy sniggered. Lucy couldn't believe how quickly information passed through the guild, especially where the 'blue birdy' and she demon were involved. He'd only arrived at the guild not minutes before they had.
"Guys, I'm not sure what Happy told you but I think you're mistak-"
"So what was the kiss like?" Levy interrupted, ignoring Lucy's obvious uneasiness.
"W-We didn't ki-" Lucy stuttered, why was it so hard to speak all of a sudden? She'd started to sweat profusely, what if Natsu overheard? How could she face him then, or anyone for that matter?
"You guys are too cute!" Lisanna blurted in her enthusiasm, not listening to Lucy either. "I think Natsu should propose to you and you can both just get married already."
"You'd look gorgeous in a wedding dress, Lucy. I have plenty to choose from." Erza added as she walked over from the brawl she'd just put an end to.
"G-Guys, You're getting too carried away! I'm not getting married and what Happy saw yesterday isn't what you think, it was just a peck, that's all." Lucy interjected, noticing the disappointment on her friends faces. She couldn't hide the fragility in her voice, she wanted them to leave it be now.
Wendy gasped and went bright red herself at what she was hearing, "Oh my, that's still a kiss though isn't it?"
"Well, it's not the type of kiss the others are thinking about because I've never actually done that before." Lucy said quietly, regretting the words as soon as they left her mouth.
"Hold up! You've never kissed anyone? Not ever?!" Cana yelled in her shock. All of the girls turned to her, dumbfounded by the blonde's confession. "But you've had boyfriend's though, right? Surely you must have done something with them?"
"I haven't had a boyfriend before either. I've only ever been on a few dates that's all, and they've always ended badly." With no thanks to Natsu she might add.
Lucy could feel her embarrassment bubbling at the surface about to spill over, starting to fiddle with the hem of her top as she looked away from all of their surprised faces. She knew they were just shocked by what she'd accidentally told them, but it was something she felt very sensitive over. She had spent so long yearning for Natsu that she'd not bothered to look elsewhere. Was it so wrong to only want one person?
"Even Juvia has kissed other guys and had boyfriends before, but that was before she met her darling Gray and now we kiss all the time, amongst other things." Juvia beamed, triumph evident on her face.
Well, that proves it then, even Juvia, who was infatuated with Gray, had been with others before. Lucy hadn't realised how far behind she was when it came to romance or sex. Was she really the only one? What about Natsu? She felt a pang of jealousy at the thought that even he had been with other girls before, and yet it almost seemed stupid because he wasn't one to overly show any interest in the opposite sex. It'd only been recently that he'd started talking about it, and even then it was still far and in between.
It almost seemed funny that she could imagine him being fiery in the bedroom, she thought of that quite often, yet she couldn't see him being all lovey dovey with someone, or doing the romance thing at all. He was a doer rather than a thinker and tended to act on impulse, so it was a possibility that the mood had struck him on occasion and he'd acted upon it. It made her feel a little sick just thinking about it, that was a side to him that was shut off to everyone and she didn't know whether it was on purpose or just through lack of interest.
Why was he so damn confusing? Had there little moment yesterday been an impulse of his as well, or had he actually wanted to? She just wanted to know how he felt about her and whether she was wasting her time.
Confronting him directly about it was an option, he wouldn't be able to hide then. But could she? Knowing there was a chance that he didn't share her feelings and that would break her heart. However, she also knew that if she didn't confront him, then she would forever be stuck in limbo, forever wondering whether the person she'd fallen for, would ever want her in the same way. And if he did, she couldn't stop the naughty images of them both from re-entering her head, the very thought was making her hot and bothered.
"Lucy!" Natsu yelled to get her attention, but she hadn't answered. Her face was flushed and she was lost in some sort of trance. He lowered his face to hers and studied her glazed over eyes. He smirked, she was obviously thinking of something heated. "Feeling a little hot there, Luce? You shouldn't be thinking of such things in public."
Her head snapped up to his, eyes widening at his words. If her face wasn't already flushed, it was almost on fire now. She tried to speak, say something but her mind had been frazzled. Why did he keep doing this to her? She was struggling enough as it was.
"Natsu! What are you saying?!" She shrieked, horror in her eyes as she looked around to see if anyone had heard, which of course, they had and were sniggering amongst themselves.
Unfortunately, that'd included little Haru too, who'd been frightened awake from her outburst. Natsu noticed him start to whimper and wriggle, so he reached out for the little guy to take him from his mother and held him to his chest. He sat down on a stool and rocked the baby, hushing him gently until he calmed down again.
"Lucy, I was kidding, what's got your panties in a twist?" Natsu asked, a little concerned at her reaction. Surely that couldn't have gotten her this worked up? She looked like she was about to melt with the amount of sweat on her forehead.
"N-Nothing, er, I-I need air…" She muttered, avoiding Natsu's gaze the entire time. There was too much going on in her head right now and it felt like she was suffocating.
Her body seemed to have a mind of it's own as it shimmied off the seat and made its way outside. The air felt thick and stuffy, like she was being choked by all of her conflicting thoughts and Natsu teasing her really wasn't helping with that, not that that was his fault. Still, as if on autopilot, her body took her away from the guild, she wasn't really sure where she was going, but the cool breeze was starting to calm her down at least.
Meanwhile, Natsu, still sat at the bar with little Haru cooing softly in his arms, couldn't stop staring at the great doors that Lucy had just walked out of. What was all that about? Had he upset her? Because he hadn't meant to, he always teased her but it never meant anything. Surely, what he had said couldn't have been the reason for her to walk off like that. He turned to the guys that were still sat at the bar.
"What the hell just happened? What's wrong with Lucy?" He said, directing it at anyone who wanted to answer.
"Oh Natsu, you really are dense sometimes. Isn't it obvious?" Lisanna said, smiling at him.
"Isn't what obvious? I don't get it!" He replied, why couldn't they just tell him?
"Way to go Flame brain, now look what you've done!" Gray taunted as he walked over to stand by Natsu, a smirk present on his face. "I don't know how Lucy puts up with you."
"What I've done?! You're lucky I'm holding my son or I'd be beating your stupid face in right about now." Natsu spat back. He couldn't be bothered with Gray's smart ass, he was too confused and focused on Lucy. Was he really the problem here? It must've been something else and maybe what he'd said had made it worse? Lucy got flustered often, but that was never a reason for her to leave for no reason, she usually got over it pretty quickly, unless... "This isn't just my fault, what were you guys talking about before?" He realised then, it seemed to be what they always talked about. His and Lucy's relationship was always a hot topic and they tended to take it too far with Lucy sometimes, but for her to react like that, it must have been something personal.
"We were talking about Lucy's sexual escapades. Or lack thereof, I should say." Cana added, already on her way to finishing her third barrel of alcohol. "Poor girl, doesn't know what she's missing!"
"So it wasn't just me!" He stared accusingly towards the group who'd pointed their fingers at him. "But why were you talking about that?" Natsu asked, rolling his eyes. He knew it was something of that nature, but why did they always have to pick on Lucy about it?
"We were just having a little fun but she stopped talking after admitting something and the conversation ended there." Levy started, she felt a little bad for Lucy and how they had reacted to her confession.
"Then you came over and said that, which I imagine was the icing on the cake. Not that you could've known that, of course." Mira finished, she hadn't meant to upset Lucy, she'd just got a little carried away in her excitement.
"Admitted something?" Natsu asked, brows furrowed. Had something happened to her? He'd always been acutely aware of bastards who thought they had a right to touch Lucy, but he took care of them with great pleasure. "What did she tell you?"
"I'm surprised you weren't listening, even I heard them talking and I wasn't even trying to. They weren't being quiet about it." Gajeel walked over with a twin in each arm and stood next to Levy.
"Is someone gonna to tell me what was said? Or are you just going to keep wasting my time, when I should be looking for Lucy?" He was starting to get frustrated now, like he didn't have enough on his mind without them going round in circles.
"We were teasing her about her closeness with you, Natsu, and it went too far." Juvia admitted, even she felt bad now that she had said it out loud.
"And to shut us up she said that she'd never been romantically involved with anyone before and it shocked us. We should have said something, but we didn't." Lisanna said quietly, they had been so excited by what Happy had told them, they hadn't considered Lucy's feelings. "We're sorry, Natsu. We weren't trying to make her feel bad about it. We wouldn't knowingly upset Lucy."
"It's my fault Natsu, I told Mira about what I saw when I came home yesterday and I think it got a little out of hand." Happy came over to Natsu and stood in front of him, with his head down, feeling a little silly now for saying such things.
"We're all to blame, not just Happy. We were so excited and shocked we thought that you'd both finally got together or something." Mira finished, she wished she'd been more sensitive to Lucy's feelings now.
Natsu let out a puff of smoke, and sifted his hand through his hair, completely exasperated. A reaction like that would make anyone feel self conscious, let alone someone like Lucy. It was something she'd always been private about and he was at a loss over how to solve it. She always got flustered if anyone ever brought it up so he never asked, wanting to save her from the embarrassment. It was a delicate and fragile subject for her and he respected that, but these girls seemed to lack a filter and it would often lead to overly personal interrogations.
Natsu didn't really understand why it was such a big deal whether she'd been with someone or not. What she had or hadn't done before was up to Lucy, it was in the past, and as long as she was safe, he didn't care. She'd always been very innocent minded so maybe those things meant more to her? He needed to get to the bottom of this, so he stood up and started to walk towards the main door.
"I guess I should go fix this then?" He exhaled, no longer in the mood to engage with them about it any longer. Why couldn't they just keep their mouths shut? How was he supposed to bring up what he needed to talk about with her, when she was already heightened from this? He loved every single one of his friends, but they could really stick their foot in it sometimes.
He walked out of the guild and took in a deep breath, he hoped Lucy wasn't angry with him for what he'd said, and would let him speak to her at least. He sniffed at the air to try and catch a whiff of Lucy's scent and started to walk in the direction she'd gone.
"Let's go and find mama! I think I know where she's gone." He smiled at the little baby who was resting his head on his fathers shoulder, his wide blue eyes staring deeply into Natsu's green ones.
Seeing that sweet face always managed to make Natsu smile, no matter how bleak the situation, Haru seemed to brighten everything up. Looking forward again, he kept walking, eventually turning a corner and entering Strawberry Street. There she was, sat on the wall with her legs dangling over the canal. It was late afternoon now and the sun was getting lower in the sky, making the blue water glisten. He walked over and perched himself next to her, keeping silent for a moment.
"You found me then? I was wondering when you'd show up." Lucy said, not taking her eyes off of the water. "Did they bombard you with ridiculous questions as well?"
"Not really." He said simply, he really wasn't sure how he was meant to talk about this with her, maybe he should just let her take the lead.
"Figures, they never do with you. Being so shielded means people learn not to bother." She said, with a slight sting in her voice, not directing at him, but at the situation in general.
"Shielded? What do you mean?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. He didn't understand what she was trying to imply.
"Nothing Natsu. Sorry, it's not you I'm annoyed with. I'm not really annoyed with anyone, other than myself for being so immature. I don't know why those things get to me so easily, but they do. I'm an adult, I should be able to talk about adult things without turning into a complete mess." She sighed and finally looked over at him and gave a half smile, then turned to Haru, relaxing a little as she reached out to stroke his hair.
"Maybe, you're just not ready for those sorts of things, but that doesn't make you immature, Lucy, it's not for everyone. It'll come in time if that's what matters to you." He knew it would take her longer, but that was why he was willing to wait for her.
"But I want to be ready…" She said quietly. "Don't you ever want that, Natsu?"
"I didn't use to, it never interested me. But becoming Haru's father changed that, he opened my eyes to all sorts of possibilities that I'd never considered before." Natsu brought the baby down into his lap and smiled at his big wide eyes, he felt Lucy lean in and lay her head against his shoulder. It was in times like this he realised, he could never want anything more than the little family he'd made for himself, and what a beautiful thing it was to experience it with his best friend. "Like having my own family and being with someone I want to share that with."
He turned his head to face her, locking onto her eyes as she brought her own head up. Lucy felt her heart start to thump harshly against her chest, was he trying to tell her something? Was she that someone? Or was she misreading it again? No, she didn't think she was. His eyes were piercing into hers with so much emotion it was almost shattering. Never in a million years did she think Natsu would speak so openly with her, but then she'd never actually asked him. So maybe he wasn't hiding anything, she was just incapable of reading what he'd been trying to tell her all along.
"Me too, Natsu. I think it's also why it bothers me so much when people pry, because I've only ever had eyes for one person. Why would I look elsewhere when all I need is right here in front of me?" She reached out, placing her hand onto his cheek and caressed it with her thumb, giving him her sweetest smile.
It surprised her that for once she didn't feel embarrassed to say that to him, in fact she felt empowered. The way he was looking at her made her stomach do back flips, but this time she didn't want to shy away from it, she wanted to run with it and see where it would take her.
Natsu smiled softly at her, he felt completely at her mercy. Was this the moment he'd been so desperately waiting for? He'd just told her something he'd never told anyone, what else could he say to make her realise? He couldn't look away from her big brown eyes, they were hypnotising. She was the sweetest person he'd ever met and her beauty couldn't be tamed by words. In that moment, her entire being was glowing, blending with the evening rays and she looked utterly breathtaking.
She leaned in, nothing was going to stop her this time. With new found courage, she brushed her nose up against his, and opened her mouth ever so slightly as her eyes slowly began to close. Natsu could feel the blood pumping in his ears as he watched her come closer, her beautiful brown eyes shimmered before they shut completely. He brought his free hand up to rest under her ear with his fingers tangling into her hair and tilted his head slightly. He moved ever so slowly closer to her, waiting to receive her mouth with his.
"Kiss me, Natsu." She whispered against him and that was all he needed before he connected their lips in a sweet kiss.
He pressed delicately against her, her lips were like nothing he'd ever felt before. They moulded perfectly to his and her scent was intoxicating, making him want to delve deeper, but he wouldn't, not yet. He wanted Lucy's first kiss to be special because it mattered to her and that's exactly what it was, soft and gentle. It was all the things Lucy had hoped for as her first experience and she couldn't believe it was with Natsu, the man who had stolen her heart. They remained like that for a few moments and after revelling in each others warm touch, they pulled apart.
Breathing harshly, Lucy's face split into a wide grin, her eyes crinkling at the corners as they were forced shut from her elation. She couldn't believe it, after so many failed attempts and worrying over nothing, they'd finally kissed and it had felt amazing.
"Why did we wait so long to do that?" Lucy beamed. She moved back slightly, wanting to see his face more clearly.
"That wasn't a one time deal, Lucy, we'll need to make up for lost time." A sly smile creeping on to his face, expression turning from soft to something a little more hungry as he glared at her like something he could devour.
Lucy felt almost intimidated by his stare, he was so hot and fiery, she could only imagine what he'd be like as a lover. She felt a spark shoot straight down to the area between her legs as she thought of all the things he might do to her. This time she couldn't help the blush rise up her chest and neck the longer he looked at her like that.
"Luce, you're blushing again. You really should save those kinda thoughts for the bedroom." He smirked at her, she'd always leave herself open for teasing. As much as he wanted to give in to his (and her) desires and consume every last inch of her body this second, right where they sat. He didn't feel that was overly appropriate whilst their son was present and still awake.
"Natsu! There are innocent ears present!" She squeaked, blush now taking over her entire body and it wasn't helping that he was obviously trying to stifle a laugh.
"Come on, Luce. It's getting late and Haru needs to go to bed soon." He turned around and stood up, reaching out his hand to her. The sun had disappeared from the sky now, with only the moonlight to guide their way. Neither mage could control their beaming smiles as they made their way home.
Once reaching their house and going inside, Lucy took Haru from Natsu and went upstairs to their bedroom to change him and began to settle him as she sat on the bed. Natsu had come up not long after with a fresh bottle of milk for him. He stayed in the doorway, out of view, for a moment and listened to Lucy speak softly to the little one. He watched her lean back on the pillows with Haru resting on her stomach as she stroked his back.
Haru, seeming a little unsettled, was grunting as he tried to get comfortable. Lucy (and Natsu) watched in amusement, with grins plastered on both of their faces as he wriggled around on Lucy's stomach, slowly climbing up towards her chest. This was something she had read about in her many baby books. Small baby's would attempt to climb the mother's body to latch on and feed, although it surprised her the instinct was still there considering he'd been bottle fed for the last two weeks.
He was still very small so he struggled to move his weight around, well that's what they thought until he suddenly lifted his head to move it. Lucy's eyes widened like saucers as she watched him do it again. It wasn't elegant or delicate, plopping it back down onto his mother as he jerkily moved to face where Natsu was standing. Natsu walked over, making his presence known and knelt down beside the bed so that he was eye level with the little boy, bringing his face closer so that Haru could focus on it.
"Did you see that Natsu? He climbed up me and lifted his head!" Lucy beamed whilst trying to remain calm for Haru's sake, it was still his bed time after all.
"You bet I did!" A grin pierced his face as he continued to watch the tiny fella. Bringing his hand up to stroke his chubby little cheek. "What a strong boy you are!" It was such a little thing, but Natsu couldn't have been prouder of how well his son was doing. He stayed there for a while longer, cheering the baby on as he made his way up.
Haru had reached his mother's chest and had started rooting, another thing she had read about. Lucy was amazed by how much such a tiny baby could do, it was so damn cute, but he was definitely hungry.
"I'm sorry baby, you're not going to find anything in there." She couldn't contain her giggles as they wracked her body. She quickly held onto Haru so that he didn't fall off as she sat up and laid him down in her lap. "But daddy has something yummy for you."
Natsu stood up, chuckling to himself at the baby's desperate attempt to feed and sat down next to Lucy, handing her the warmed bottle. Haru opened his mouth eagerly and started guzzling, like always. They cuddled up to one another and watched the baby feed for a little while.
"That's one little milestone reached, he'll be walking and talking before you know it." Lucy whispered, feeling a little sad at the prospect of Haru not being this little forever.
"Don't wish it away, Luce. We should just enjoy it while he's still so small." Natsu said. His mood instantly soured as his words reminded him about what he'd been needing to tell her all day, he guessed now was a good a time as any. "When we go downstairs, I need to talk to you, Lucy."
"Is everything okay, Natsu?" She suddenly felt a little worried, starting a conversation with those words never ended well. Her mind was running wild with all the possible things he might say and naturally she came to one conclusion. Her eyes widened, as she snapped her head up to his. "Is this about the kiss?!"
"Why would it be about that?" Raising and eyebrow in confusion. He chuckled at her pink dusted cheeks, only she would assume he would have a problem with that. "You're weird, Lucy!"
Blushing a little at his words, Lucy nodded, feeling relieved. When Haru had settled down, they both went downstairs and sat on the couch together. Natsu looked so serious, it was very unlike him to look like that without good reason. He took her hands in his and let out a breath, this was going to be painful, he just knew it. But at least it was just the two of them, so if Lucy did get upset, he could handle it without any prying ears around.
"Lucy, I don't know how best to say this but…" Her mind was going into overdrive as he paused, he was staring so intently at her that she couldn't stop the adrenaline from spiking through her body and making it tremble. "We need to return to work soon, the money from our last job has almost run out." He waited for her reaction, watching her face morph from confusion to something he couldn't place.
"Yeah, I know. I've been thinking about it for a few days now and I thought if I tried to ignore it, then it would go away." Lucy sighed, she'd been dreading this, she didn't want to go back to work yet, she didn't feel ready. "I wanted to stay with Haru a bit longer before we had to go back, but apparently babies are expensive. Who knew?" She snorted, but her voice was void of mirth.
"Hold on a second! I've been going out of my head all day trying to find a way to tell you and you already knew?!" Natsu looked at her in disbelief. How stupid could he be? Of course she knew, this was Lucy, she was meant to be the sensible one here.
"Just because I knew doesn't make it any easier, Natsu. I don't feel ready at all to return yet, I don't want to leave Haru while he's still so small. It feels like we've only just come back with him and now we're leaving again." She looked down at the floor, fighting to hold back the tears in her eyes, quickly wiping them away.
"Honestly, I don't feel ready either, but no matter how hard it gets, we'll get through it." He spoke softly, circling his arms around her waist and pulling her against him, if she were to cry then he would be there for her, just like she was there for him. He leant down and breathed into her ear, "It's okay to be sad, Lucy."
As soon as her head touched his chest, the flood gates opened, everything she had suppressed came spilling out and she couldn't stop the tremors that dominated her body. Natsu hated seeing her cry, but this reaction was quite tame and easy to deal with compared to how he thought she was going to be.
"We've only had Haru for two weeks but I just can't imagine not being with him, he's such a vulnerable little baby that needs his mommy and daddy." She sniffled, holding onto Natsu like her life depended on it and in return, he held her tight, giving her all the time she needed to relieve herself of such worries. "I need him to be safe and I'm scared that if we leave him now something bad might happen."
"He will be safe, nothing is going to happen to him while we're gone, I promise." He brought his hand up to place it on the top of her head and began to comb through her silky hair with his fingers. "We knew when we took him in it was going to be harder, but we've come this far and he's doing so well compared to where he started."
"He is, even the guys at the guild were saying so. I love him so much, more than I ever thought possible and I want to do right by him. Which also means earning money to provide for him too. I just wish it wasn't so soon." The tears began to fall once more as she buried her head back in to his chest.
"He's a little fighter, Luce. It'll be worth it when you have him to come home to every time, he'll be your reason to keep going, no matter how hard it gets." Natsu felt his own tears spring to the surface, but fought them back. He loved Haru with his entire being and having to leave him was killing him inside, but he had to remain strong for Lucy. "Haru is a tough little boy, he's proven that every single day, so he'll be fine for a few days without us."
"He will. I know he will, thank you Natsu." Her voice barely audible as her breathing began to even out and her tears were slowing down.
It took her a few moments but she eventually and reluctantly separated from his hold and stared up at him. She smiled at him, a genuine happy smile that conveyed so much more than any words she could say. Her eyes were still glossy from crying and her cheeks tinted pink. Her mouth was partially open and her plump lips looked ever so enticing. Natsu was stunned once more by her beauty, it seemed no matter the situation, whether she was laughing or crying, she always managed to look so angelic and all he could think about was their earlier kiss and how much he wanted to do it again.
Lucy could see the want in his eyes, like she was something he would ravage until he was satiated. It made her heart leap out of her chest at the very idea of him being let loose, allowing his hot mouth to gorge on her body. It was just the two of them and even though she was nervous about how far he might go, she wasn't sure once they started whether she'd want him to stop.
Giving in to his desire, placing a hand on the nape of her neck and the other on her waist, he pulled her in, hearing a sharp inhale as he welded his lips onto hers in a searing hot kiss. The dragon slayer inhaled every last drop of her alluring scent and began to move his mouth, moulding their lips together again and again in a fluid motion, swallowing every little whimper that escaped her needy crevice. It was slow and passionate, savouring every last touch of her delicate lips.
Natsu, wanted to taste her, to explore her little mouth and so weaved his tongue into the kiss, which Lucy gladly accepted with her own. It felt like she was being scorched from the inside and it made her feel dizzy, making her moan into him. It was a noise that seemed to awaken the fire within his belly, he just couldn't get enough of this girl.
Without separating, he pushed her down, laying her back against the couch with his body hovering over her, his legs straddling hers and her arms wrapped tightly around his neck. They were completely lost in each other, nothing could penetrate their little bubble of happiness.
When they finally broke apart, breathing harshly from the lack of oxygen, Natsu placed his forehead against hers and smiled. The smile took over his entire face and the only thing Lucy could do was mirror him. He opened his eyes to look at her flushed face, feeling a sense of pride as he mused over her swollen pink lips, even now he found it hard to stop himself from claiming them again.
"You don't know how long I've waited to do that." He whispered, still a little out of breath, but feeling completely elated at the same time.
"Me too, Natsu. I always assumed you weren't interested in me, but I guess you've proved me wrong." She chuckled at the silliness of it all, after all this time he'd wanted her just as much as she wanted him and she couldn't have been happier.
"In that case, I'll spend every day from now on showing you just how interested I am." He smirked, watching her face flush fifty shades of red as she realised what he was implying.
He leaned down, his lips were mere millimetres from her mouth, breath mingling with hers, "You're so beautiful, Lucy." He whispered before ravaging her lips once more. He could totally do this all night long if Lucy would let him.
"OH MY GOD! NATSU AND LUCY ARE MAKING KITTENS!" Both mages heads snapped towards where the noise had come from, making eye contact with the little blue feline hovering by the front door, giggling to himself.
Without thinking, Lucy pushed Natsu off of her in her temper, got up from the chair and ran after the cat, that had now shot back out of the front door, flying for his life as the blonde chased after him. Natsu walked over to the door and watched as Happy taunted Lucy whilst she screeched at him. He contemplated briefly whether he should go and save his little friend before Lucy unleashed hell upon him, if she ever managed to catch him that was. He was probably enjoying their little show more than he should have done and decided that Happy, for once, was on his own.

Walking the Tightrope - Jamie and Claire AU
The year is 1919, and a 13 year old Claire Beauchamp has just lost both her parents to the Spanish Influenza. Alone in the world, and out of options, Claire runs away, stumbling across train tracks. When she wipes away her tears, she discovers a train, and is welcomed aboard.
What happens when Claire finds out that the train is home to the Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey Circus? Luckily, she meets a family – The Fraser’s, who help her learn the circus life. But, will she always want to stay? Or will she eventually grow up and realize it’s time to leave the circus and her best friend, Jamie… behind?
This is the first 3(ish) and only chapters of this fic. I will also add the outline for what this story was going to be at the end. I hope you enjoy it and I was excited to get into the twists of this story. Moodboard by @beaauchamp xx
Chapter One
Boston, Massachusetts 1919
Claire Elizabeth Beauchamp was 13 years old when she ran away to the circus. Normally, young girls don’t run away to join circuses — especially not young British girls who had just moved to America.
Claire and her family were originally from England, the beautiful city of Oxford, and had relocated to the United States for Henry Beauchamp’s job. He was a veterinarian, and had been offered a position to teach the subject at Harvard University, an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Their family packed up their small home and moved across the Atlantic. Claire found it was rather easy to leave her home country, she hadn’t always been the best at making new friends. And besides, she had her parents to keep her company. Henry’s brother, Claire’s Uncle Lamb, was an archaeologist and had traveled with them to stay for a few months in between digs.
They had only been in Boston for eight months before the sickness came. It was 1919 and the Spanish Influenza was spreading rapidly throughout the country and throughout the world. Claire felt helpless as she watched people around her die.
“You must stay with Lamb, darling,” her mother said, voice barely above a whisper. “He’ll take good care of you.”
“But I want to stay with you, mum,” Claire gripped her mother’s hand, aware of how hot her skin felt against her own. “I want to stay with you and papa.”
Julia Beauchamp had woken up that morning with a chill that rapidly turned into a fever. It was a miracle that Claire wasn’t ill. Her father, Henry hadn’t been so lucky. He lay in the bed next to Julia, chest rising and falling slowly, skin moist with fever.
“We won’t be here much longer,” Julia said and did her best to squeeze Claire’s hand. “You must make a good life for yourself. I know you can.”
“Mother!” Claire weeped as her mother’s grip loosened. Bent over the bed, she threw herself on top of both her parents, desperate to give them all the life that was in her.
“Oh, Claire, dear,” her uncle Lamb raced in and pulled her off the bed, his own eyes filled with tears as he watched his brother and sister-in-law leave the earth. “You mustn’t look, child.”
“I want my parents!” Claire cried against her uncle’s chest, her body shaking and not able to contain the grief she felt. There was nothing that could have been done — nothing that anyone could have done.
She had just lost both of her parents, what could have been worse?
It was barely twenty-four hours later that her favorite Uncle Lamb had fallen ill and died of the Spanish influenza. Claire Beauchamp was now an orphan with no one to turn to and nowhere to go.
An orphanage was the only suitable place for a girl like her. The thought of being stuffed into a house with tens of other children without a family made her stomach twist into knots.
Claire stood by herself, hands clasped firmly in front of her, trying not to cry as she watched her parents and uncle’s caskets be lowered into the ground. It took everything in her not to throw herself down and demand to be buried along with them. What did she have to live for?
Alone in the world and with nowhere to go, she ran from the funeral with nothing but the black dress on her body and the Oxfords on her feet. She thought she could make it on her own — survive all by herself.
There was no particular destination in mind, but the air around her was suffocating and every look of sympathy shot her way made her want to scream. So Claire turned, tears streaming down her face and began to run even faster.
The wind whipped past her face, salty tears flying behind her as she pumped her arms and legs to carry her as far away as possible. No one stopped her. No one knew her.
It wasn’t long before her chest began to burn and the tears filled her eyes to the point where she had to stop. When she looked up, she saw iron train tracks and followed them, only hoping that soon something would come and take her away.
As the sky darkened and the night grew cold, Claire shivered and wished more than anything for her family to be alive. But wishing wouldn’t bring them back. So with every step, Claire pushed out the memories she had of Henry, Julia and Lambert Beauchamp — because thinking of them only brought pain.
Stumbling along the tracks, her feet aching and stomach rumbling, Claire knew she needed to find a place to sleep. Lifting her head up, she saw lights in the distance — lights of a train. A train would have food and people, surely someone would be kind enough to help her find her way, or perhaps they would let her ride along.
With careful steps in the dark, Claire made her way to the last car of the train and stepped off the tracks to peer at the side of the boxcar.
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus
A circus.
Claire’s eyes went wide, wondering what kind of animals lived inside the small confines of the boxcars. She had never been to the circus, but had always wanted to go. Claire loved animals and was always quick to make friends with them in whatever country they were visiting.
Voices came from further down and Claire walked forward into the light.
“Psst,” came from behind her and she whipped her head around, back into the dark. Not seeing anything, Claire shrugged her shoulders and kept moving forward. “Psst,” she heard the sound again.
“You!” A voice said quietly from above her. Claire looked up and gasped, jumping back to see a head sticking out of the boxcar. “I’m talkin’ to ye lass!”
“Me?” Claire pointed at herself.
“Do you see any other little girls around here?” The man said in a thick Scottish accent.
She shook her head and before she could do anything else, the man stuck his hand out, offering her a way up. With no other option, Claire reached up, grabbed it and was pulled up into the boxcar.
“Yer a wee thing,” the man said and for the first time, Claire got a good look at him. He was tall, with wide shoulders and had jet black hair. “What are ye doin’ out here so late at night?”
“I—“ She stammered, suddenly wondering if she made a mistake running away.
“Where are yer parents, lass?” The man said and when Claire met his eye, it hit her, the fact that she would never wake up to the smell of her father’s chocolate chip pancakes again or hear her mother sing along to the radio every evening. Tears fell down her cheeks and her chest caved in. The man with the jet black hair caught her in his arms as she began to fall to her knees and he held her against his chest.
“Shhh, I didna mean to upset ye,” he spoke softly. “Tis only it’s no every day young lasses come walkin’ beside the tracks.” The man ran his hand gently over Claire’s head, smoothing down the unruly curls.
“I have a lad about yer age, maybe a couple years younger. My daughter is probably near yer age though,” he said, trying to soothe her with conversation. “Usually the brothers dinna take a family on the road wi’ them, but they’ve allowed it this time.”
“Y-you have children?” Claire stammered as she wiped her face on her sleeve and looked up at the man. He released her, making sure she could stand on her own two feet.
“Aye, two of them, the wee numpties,” he laughed. “And my wife, they’re all part of the act, ye ken.” Claire raised her brows, unsure of what “act” he was talking about. He saw the confusion on her face, “Och, have ye never been to see a show before?”
“No, never.”
“My wife Ellen and I are lion tamers,” he said proudly, crossing his arms over his chest and leaned back against the wall of the cart. “My son and daughter are what ye could say cub tamers in training,” he laughed.
“You tame lions?” Claire asked, eyes wide for the second time that night. “I’ve never even seen a lion!”
“Ah, I thought I detected an accent,” he smiled. “That makes this even more curious. What’s a Sassenach like ye doin’ here?”
“A Sassenach?” Claire asked as she took a seat on a cot nearby, her legs unable to hold her up after a day of running and walking along the tracks.
“An English person, just a wee nickname,” the man smirked.
“I moved here with my parents about a year ago, we’re from Oxford.”
“Ah, Oxford,” he smiled. “I went there once as a lad, beautiful place. Yer parents, ye say? Where are they? Do they ken their daughter is runnin’ away from home to join the circus?” He laughed and then the laughter died as he caught sight of her face.
“My parents are dead,” she nearly whispered and the man dropped to his knees in front of her. “My uncle is dead. I have no one.”
“Oh lass,” he took her small hand in his. “I’m sae sorry, I— I’m sorry for yer loss.”
“Their funeral was today, it’s why I’m dressed like this,” Claire pointed at her dress. “I did run away, but I didn’t know where to run to.”
“It’s every kids dream to join the circus is it no?” The man put his thumb under her chin, lifting it up. “Ye’ve a place here, if ye want it.”
“But I can’t join the circus!” Claire laughed, her emotions running on overdrive. “I’m just a girl and a circus is no place for me.”
“Try tellin’ that to my daughter Jenny, she’ll be sayin’ the opposite,” he smiled. “She loves the animals, helps take care of them when she’s not performin’. She’s wi’ her Mam and brother up in the car ahead eatin’ dinner.”
Claire didn’t know what to say at this offer. Join the circus? It all felt like a fantasy. No one really ran away to the circus and certainly not young girls like her. But she didn’t exactly have a lot of options — no family, no house, no money.
“I’m Claire Beauchamp,” she offered her hand to the man.
“Brian Fraser, lass. Pleased to make yer acquaintance,” he kissed the back of her hand. “So is that a yes? Are ye runnin’ away to join us?”
It could’ve been much worse and as Claire looked around the small train car, she thought she might as well give it a try — the least she could get out of it was a hot meal and a night’s sleep.
“Yes. I’m running away to join the circus,” she smiled for the first time in days.
“Tha!” Brian smiled. “Ye’ve just made the best decision of yer young life, lassie. Now,” he stood up, taking her hand. “We need to feed ye and then find ye some place to sleep. I expect ye’ll be needin’ a wee nap soon.”
Claire followed Brian through a small door and through another into another train car. They walked through several others, past people with curious eyes and hushed tones, wondering who she was no doubt. Claire had never seen so many people crammed into such a small space before. They finally came into the train car Brian was looking for and he let go of her hand to walk over to a red headed woman, kissing her on the mouth.
They seemed to be in a train car where people ate, the place was lined with small tables and chairs, plates of food in front of everyone. Brian motioned for her to join him and she stood shyly next to him while he introduced her.
“I found a young lass outside,” Brian smiled, placing his arm around her shoulder. “This is Claire Beauchamp, she’s from England and she’s run away to the circus.”
“Run away?” The girl who must be his daughter Jenny said from beside her mother. “I didna ken anyone like ye would want to come and live here.”
“Who wouldn’t want to live here, Janet?” A young boy said beside her, looking at her with the bluest eyes Claire had ever seen.
“Claire will be joinin’ us for dinner tonight,” Brian smiled and then pulled up a chair for her. “Jamie, Janet, say a proper hello to the lass.”
The young girl stuck her hand out over the table, “I’m Janet, but you can call me Jenny. I’m fourteen. This is my younger brother, James.”
“But ye can call me, Jamie,” the young boy offered her his hand from beside her. He had a mop of curly red hair and mischievous glint in his eye. “Did Da tell ye we tame lions?!”
“He did,” Claire nodded. “I’ve never seen a lion before though.”
Jamie gasped, frightening Claire and he grabbed her arm, “Ye’ve never seen a lion? Jenny, did ye hear the lass?”
“I heard her fine well, Jamie,” Jenny rolled her eyes, but then smiled at Claire. “We can show ye them tomorrow when we unload”
“Unload?”
“Aye, when we unload to set up for the circus, we’ll be in Boston for the next two nights and then it’s on to another city,” Jenny smiled.
A plate of food was set down in front of Claire and her stomach made a very loud noise at the sight of it. She hadn’t eaten all day — she hadn’t eaten much of anything since she found out the news about her parents. She grabbed the fork and began to eat quickly, not caring if the food was too hot.
“Slow down lass,” Ellen smiled from across the table. “Ye need no worry about it disappearin’.”
“Sorry,” Claire said shyly, her cheeks turning bright red.
“Dinna fash, lass. I just dinna want to see ye gettin’ a belly ache. My Jamie gets those when he eats too fast,” Ellen smirked.
“Mam!” Jamie shouted. “Dinna talk about my belly in front of her!”
Brian snorted over his food, which only made Claire blush harder. She took her next bites a bit slower, savoring the taste.
“I never asked before,” Claire said to Brian once her plate was clean. “You’re from Scotland. You all are,” she looked around. “What are you doing here then?”
Brian glanced around at his family, then finally his eyes focused on Claire. “I suppose ye can say that we ran away too.”
Ellen took her husband’s hand, squeezing it so tightly her knuckles went white.
“We still need to find ye a place to sleep, lass,” Brian said a moment later. “There’s probably room for ye to join in our car tonight.”
“I can show her, Da!” Jamie said beside her and he nearly jumped out of his chair.
Laughing, Brian smiled, wiping his mouth with a napkin. “Aye, son. Take her to the car, we’ll be there in a minute.”
“Follow me, Claire,” Jamie smiled, offering his hand to her. She took it, following the boy back through the train cars she had come through. They found themselves in the same car Brian had pulled her into. As she looked around now, she saw that it was rather cozy — as cozy and nice as a train car could get she supposed.
“This is where I sleep,” Jamie said as he pointed up at the top bunk. “Then Jenny sleeps in the middle and there’s actually an empty bunk on the bottom. I guess that’s where ye can sleep.”
“You all sleep in here?” Claire said.
“Aye, Mam and Da take the cot in the corner, tis small, but it’s enough,” Jamie smiled. He couldn’t have been but a couple of years younger than her, but he was just as tall as her, if not taller. He seemed kind and not for the first time, Claire wondered what an entire family was doing joining the circus.
“My Da said ye were runnin’ away…” Jamie said to her as he came to stand in front of her. “Why, Sassenach?”
“Oh you too?” Claire smirked. “Your father called me that earlier, I suppose I better get used to it.”
“Och, I didna mean any offense!” Jamie put up both his hands. “Yer English is all.”
“No, it’s alright,” Claire smiled and tucked a stray curl behind her ear.
“Ye didna answer my question…” Jamie said softly.
“I—“ Claire felt her chest tighten and her eyes water. “I’d rather not talk about it just yet.”
“Oh that’s fine, Claire.” Jamie reached for her hand, squeezing it tight. “Ye’ll see soon enough how great this place really is. It’s like a dream!”
“I’ve just woken up from a nightmare of my own,” Claire said, her shoulders drooping. Jamie lifted her chin with his fingers.
“Ye’ve nothin’ to be scarit of, Sassenach. Not so long as I’m wi’ ye,” he smiled, squeezing her hand again.
“You’re very kind, Jamie. Much kinder than I deserve,” Claire smiled. She had to admit that Jamie was rather cute and very charming. Perhaps this circus thing wouldn’t be so bad after all. “I’m feeling rather tired.”
“Och, of course,” Jamie smiled. “As I said, the bottom bunk can be yers.”
“Thank you, Jamie.” Claire let go of his hand and climbed into the bottom bunk, sighing as she slipped off her shoes. She winced as she felt the blisters, but tried to keep quiet as Jamie climbed up to the top bunk.
“I’m glad yer here, Sassenach,” he said a few minutes later as they both lay quietly. “I was wishin’ for a friend.”
Claire didn’t know what to say so she turned over on her side and let herself weep. Only hours before, she had buried her family and said goodbye to the life she knew and now she was lying in a bunk on a circus train.
Her eyes grew heavy and soon the tears stopped as she slipped into a deep dreamless slumber.
Chapter 2
Claire woke to the quiet whispers of Brian and Ellen Fraser. She didn’t want them to know she was awake just yet, so she kept her eyes shut tight and face buried in the pillow.
“What is she going to do here, Brian?” Ellen said softly and glanced over at Claire lying still asleep on the bottom bunk. “Ye ken fine well that this is no’ a proper life for a girl like her.”
“Jenny’s here is she no’?” Brian said.
“Aye,” Ellen clicked her tongue. “But she’s our daughter, and she didna have much say in the matter at the time if ye recall.”
Brian rubbed his hands over his face, sighing as he looked at the young girl.
“She’s got nowhere else to go, Ellen. Her parents and uncle died of the influenza,” he said softly and Claire realized that his own children must still be asleep above her.
“Christ,” Ellen muttered under her breath. “So she really did run away to the circus, the poor lass.”
“Ye ken just as well as I do what that grief feels like,” Brian said to his wife. “The poor lass is heartbroken, I’m sure we can find somethin’ here for her to do.”
Ellen leaned against her husband, silent for a moment before nodding. “We must help her.”
“Aye,” Brian kissed his wife’s forehead. “I’ll go and talk to the brothers. Let them know about our newest passenger. I’ll find ye and the bairns at breakfast after setup.”
A sliding door opened and closed and Brian Fraser left the small boxcar. Claire could hear sniffling from the corner and opened one eye to see Ellen wiping away tears that fell down her cheeks. Compassion stirred Claire to rise from her bed and she sat down beside Ellen on the small cot.
Without saying anything, she took Ellen’s hand in hers and squeezed it. The older woman smiled down at her, squeezing back.
“I’m glad that yer here, Claire,” Ellen smiled and ran her fingers softly over Claire’s cheek. “We’ll do the best we can to take care of ye, and make ye feel at home.”
Claire’s throat felt tight, and she knew that if she spoke she would burst into tears, so she wrapped her arms around Ellen and buried her head against the woman’s chest. There was nothing quite like a mother’s embrace — warm and soothing, like being wrapped in the arms of an angel.
The two of them sat there for a moment longer, quiet as they both grieved for their own loss. Claire looked up and finally released her arms from around Ellen when Jamie and Jenny both started to wake up.
“Morning my darlins,” Ellen said to her children.
“Morning mam,” Jenny said, wiping her eyes as she jumped out of bed, landing on her feet.
Jamie yawned and jumped down as well, rubbing his hands over his eyes. He blinked and looked at Claire, as if remembering that she was there. “Morning Mam, Claire,” he smiled softly.
“Are ye ready for yer first day at the circus, Sassenach?” Jamie asked, a grin spreading across his lips. It was infectious, and Claire found herself smiling too.
“Ready as I’ll ever be.”
++++++
“So, what exactly do you and Jenny do all day?” Claire asked as they walked over to where the large tents were being setup. It looked like quite a job to do. Men and women were lined up in a circle, each holding rope, and tall wooden beams were on their sides, ready to be lifted. Claire didn’t envy their job.
“We help wi’ anythin’ that needs to be done,” Jenny said. “I usually help wi’ the cookin’ and feedin’ everyone. Well, as much as our cook Mrs. Fitz will allow me to since I’m only fourteen. She’s Scottish as well!”
Jamie bumped against Claire, “And I help with the animals! No’ the big ones though. Mam willna let me near them.”
“That’s cause you’re a wee ten year old,” Jenny smirked and winked at Claire.
“I’m turning eleven next month!” Jamie scowled and kicked at a nearby rock. He hated to feel like the odd one out. “I usually just walk around and see who needs help. Since I am ten…” he sighed. “I can only do so much. The circus is a tough job, ye’ll see soon enough, Sassenach.”
“It sounds like it,” Claire agreed.
They found the food tent, which had already been set up the night before. The smell of fresh eggs and bacon made Claire’s stomach growl and they got into line. Claire looked around the tent and saw mostly women there, as the men were still setting up the larger tent that would house the main event.
“Are you the only other kids here?” Claire asked the Frasers. She hadn’t paid much attention to anything when she boarded the train last night.
“Aye,” Jamie nodded, scooping a large helping of eggs onto his plate. “We’re also the only family here too. The circus is no’ exactly a life most people choose to raise bairns in.”
“But, we havena been here our whole lives either,” Jenny added. “We were both born in Scotland. Ye see, we moved here five years ago.”
They found Ellen sitting at a table, a plate of food already in front of her.
“Good to see ye, Claire,” Ellen smiled gently. “I hope my bairns havena been tellin’ ye too many wild stories?”
“No,” Claire shook her head. “Jenny was just telling me about when you moved here.”
At that, Ellen froze, her complexion going pale and she looked over at her daughter who shook her head slightly.
“Ye’ll have to forgive me, Claire,” Ellen said. “I dinna like to talk about our life before the circus. Those times are better left in the past.”
“Thats all right,” Claire nodded. That was certainly how Claire felt now. She would much rather leave all of her pain and grief behind her, and try and start a new life. Granted, this wasn’t what she had in mind, but it was better than living in an orphanage.
A few minutes later, Brian Fraser came over with his own plate. He was sweaty from putting up the tent, but didn’t seem to mind. Most people here were covered in a thin layer of sweat and dirt. Living on train wasn’t exactly all that clean, Claire realized.
“After ye eat, Da, can ye come wi’ us to show Claire the lions?” Jamie asked his father.
“Aye,” Brian nodded, chowing down on piece of bacon. “But ye kids ken the drill. Dinna stand too close while we feed them.” He turned to look at Claire, “The lions will be hungry this mornin’ and it only takes almost gettin’ yer hand bit off once, to practice extreme caution around them.”
“I don’t want to get too close at all!” Claire squeaked. She had been around animals all her life, her father had been a veterinarian. But, he had never worked on a lion before — only house cats and dogs, with the occasional horse.
Once Brian was done with his breakfast, Ellen and Jenny stayed behind to help with the food and cleanup, while Brian, Jamie and Claire went to see the animals. They were still in their cages, but would be unloaded into their own tent before the show.
“We have the lions of course,” Jamie said excitedly, almost bouncing as they walked. “Then we have the horses, pigs, giraffes, one elephant, monkeys, zebras —“
“Zebras?!” Claire gasped.
“Oh yes,” Jamie grinned. “They’re my favorite after the lions. A bit like horses, really, which I also love, but the stripes are the best!”
Claire could immediately tell when the reached the animals cages, as the smell was quite strong. As was the loud roar that one of the lions gave as they approached. Another man was already there with a bucket full of meat, which the lion was eyeing and trying to get through the bars.
“Stay back here,” Brian instructed them before going to join the man.
“That’s auld Alec,” Jamie pointed. “He’s in charge of takin’ care of the animals.”
“All of them?” Claire said, awestruck.
“Aye, I help sometimes, but he does most of the work,” Jamie said. They watched from the trees as Alec and Brian began to feed the lions. Brian distracted the lions, moving them to one side of the cage, while Alec opened it up and set the bucket of meat inside. Then the lions pounced on their food and ate it ferociously.
“Wow,” Claire gasped, grabbing onto Jamie’s arm.
“Dinna fash, Sassenach,” Jamie grinned. “They’re no’ as scary after they’ve eaten. Later, I’ll show ye how to pet one. They can be quite friendly.”
“I’ll believe that when I see it,” Claire laughed.
Brian returned to them, and auld Alec followed closely behind. “This is young Claire Beauchamp who has come to join us,” Brian introduced her.
“Tis nice to meet ye little lass,” Alec offered her his hand and she shook it.
“We need to find somethin’ for the lassie to do,” Brian quirked his brow.
“My father worked with animals,” Claire said shyly. “All kinds, but not any lions or elephants.”
“He was a veterinarian?” Alec asked.
“Yes, sir.”
“Well, perhaps some of his skills rubbed off on ye lass,” Alex grinned. “How’d ye like to come wi’ me and see the rest of the animals? I could use all the help I could get!”
Claire looked over at Jamie who nodded encouragingly, as did Brian. Jamie stayed back with his father, leaving Claire to follow the animal carer. The thought of being around animals was a small comfort, at least she had vague knowledge of their needs.
She would never forget one warm afternoon when her father was seeing to a pregnant dog. Claire had stayed up with her father all night, comforting the dog as she gave birth, and making sure the puppies were seen after.
“Is she in pain, papa?” Claire asked, petting the head of the golden Labrador.
“A bit, my dear,” Henry Beauchamp replied. “Giving birth is no easy feat. But she’s a strong girl,” he stroked the dog’s bulging stomach. “It should be within the hour.”
Claire and her father had stayed up late into the night, watching over the dog. She belonged to a woman from town, but all Claire wanted to know was who would keep the puppies.
“How many puppies will she have?”
“I think perhaps four,” her father said as he moved his hand over the dog’s belly. “But we won’t know until she has them. Why are you asking my love?” He cocked a quizzical brow at his daughter.
“Oh, you know,” Claire grinned. “Maybe Mrs. Wilcox doesn’t want four new puppies. Maybe she only wants three!”
Her father laughed, “That’s something you can ask Mrs. Wilcox tomorrow. And of course, you’ll have to ask your mother.”
“I will, papa,” Claire smiled and went back to petting the dog’s head. “When I grow up, I want to do what you do. Being around animals all day must be fun.”
Henry rose to his feet to check that he had everything he needed — sutures for after the birth, plenty of towels. “It is rather fun, my dear. But, I will warn you, that it can be quite hard too.”
“Why is that?”
“It’s never easy telling someone that their pet is ill,” Henry frowned, coming back to join Claire on the ground. “Or feeling like you can’t do anything to help. Not everything can be solved with medicine, I’m afraid. But I try.”
At this, Claire felt sadness wash over her. As little girl, they had a pet cat, but he had passed away before they moved to Boston. She knew all too well what it was like to be told that your animal was sick.
“Well, you can still be there for someone and try and make them feel better,” Claire replied. “I think I still wanna do what you do.”
Henry reached out and smoothed back his daughter’s unruly curls. “Then you shall, my darling. You shall do whatever your heart desires.” He bent and kissed her forehead. “Your mother and I will always be here to support you.”
Auld Alec showed Claire all the animals. Claire was gobsmacked seeing so many creatures she had never seen before. She had heard about the circus coming into town, and thought about asking her parents to take her, but that was before…
“I bet yer Da never worked on zebras, aye?”
“No,” Claire shook her head as they approached one. “A few horses, but never a zebra.”
“They’re a lot like horses, of course,” Alec said and reached his hand through the bars. “Go ahead and reach yer hand in, she willna bite.”
Slowly, Claire approached the cage, trying to be careful as she reached her hand inside. The zebra nodded her head forward against Claire’s hand, letting her pet her. The zebra made a snorting sound, and Claire laughed.
“Does she have a name?”
“Zoe,” Alec smiled down at Claire. “Zoe the zebra.”
“Fitting,” Claire nuzzled Zoe’s nose.
As the morning rolled on, Claire stayed with Alec and watched as he interacted with every animal. Treating them with such care and gentleness, as if they weren’t really animals at all, but humans.
Finally, they got word that the animals were set to be moved into their proper tent. Men came to unhook their cages and wheeled them into the tent. The horses were let out to walk and stretch their legs, and Claire immediately gravitated to them.
She was barely half the height of the horse, so she came up to it carefully, not wanting to disturb it. Alec had tied them up to a nearby pole and they were munching on a trough full of hay.
“Here,” came a voice from behind her, making her jump. She turned to find Jamie, holding a bright red apple. “Donas loves these.”
“Thank you,” Claire took the apple from Jamie and walked around to the horse’s head, and held out the apple. He snorted, looking her up and down before placing his wet mouth on her hand and snatching the apple up. “He did like it!”
“Aye, told ye,” Jamie grinned. “I love the horses.” He came to stand beside her, reaching out a hand to rub over Donas’ nose. “Tha thu nad bheathach math,” Jamie said in a foreign tongue.
“What did you say?” Claire asked.
“Oh,” Jamie’s cheeks blushed. “I didna even realize I was speakin’. Twas Gaelic. Just callin’ him a fine creature. I find that speakin’ to the animals in Gaelic helps to calm them.”
“Would you teach me some then?” Claire asked. “It looks like I’ll be helping auld Alec with the animals!”
“That’s great!” Jamie smiled. “What I say to the horses is really just gibberish. No’ meant to even mean anythin’, but try sayin’ what I did — tha thu nad bheathach math.”
It was a language Claire had certainly never heard before. Her mother spoke a bit of French and had taught Claire a few words and phrases, but Gaelic was very different.
“Tha thu nad,” she said slowly. “Be-heath-ach math?”
“Let it roll off yer tongue,” Jamie said the phrase again.
“Tha thu nad bheathnach math,” Claire said again, this time getting it as closely as she could to how Jamie had said it. “Well, with practice, I think I’ll get there.”
“Aye, ye’ll do great,” Jamie smiled. “I’m glad ye found yer place, Sassenach. It’ll be nice to have ye here.”
“Yes,” Claire rubbed her hand along the side of Donas’ neck. “I think it will be rather nice here after all.”
She hadn’t even been at the circus for a full twenty-four hours, but already it was beginning to feel like home. The animals would be her new companions, as well as the Fraser’s who had welcomed her in as one of their own. Running away to the circus was the best idea Claire ever had.
Chapter 3
7 years later… New York City 1926
Claire thought often of her first night on the train — how alone she had felt and like she would never belong anywhere. It had been nearly seven years since then and the circus was now her home.
She wasn’t properly educated, but her love for animals kept her with a full time position with the Ringling Brothers. Jenny Fraser was her best friend, along with her younger brother Jamie, of course.
They traveled from city to city, amazing people with the greatest show on earth. Wonders and mystery surrounded them and Claire felt she was part of something truly spectacular.
There were times she thought she should find proper work, especially on her eighteenth birthday two years ago. Jamie had set up a picnic by the horses, Claire’s favorite of the wild menagerie.
“I think I need to leave, Jamie,” Claire said as she took a bite of a strawberry. They were sitting under the tent where all the animals were kept and it was rather smelly, but Claire had grown used to it over the years.
“Leave? Why would ye do that?” Jamie said as he reached for a cracker.
“I don’t know,” Claire sighed. “I’m an twenty year old girl, traveling around with a circus, surely I can find a real job out there.”
Jamie grew quiet, his brows knitting together and he crossed his arms over his knees. “If you want to then you should.”
“I didn’t think you would want me to go,” Claire said.
“I don’t,” Jamie looked up at her. “But if ye want to go…”
Sighing, Claire laid back on the blanket, followed by Jamie. They had grown close over the years, able to tell each other anything and everything. He had always been there for her as he said he would be. On the anniversary of her parents death, he always made sure she was alright and was there to distract her if she needed — or to be a shoulder to cry on when she needed that.
“It’s not like I want too… I just feel I should. Make a proper life.”
“Ye have a family here, Claire,” Jamie turned onto his side, lifting his head up on his elbow. “Ye ken that.”
“Of course,” she smiled. “It was just a silly thought, Jamie. Nothing more.”
“I hope so,” Jamie said as he brushed a lock of hair off her forehead. Something in Claire’s stomach fluttered whenever he touched her and she wanted him to do it again. Jamie was much taller than her now, and had grown into handsome young man.
“Sassenach,” Jamie said. “I dinna want ye to leave.”
“I won’t,” she whispered and then his lips pressed against hers. A small sound left her lips in surprise, but then she relaxed, wrapping her arms around his neck. Before she could really taste his lips, Jamie pulled back, rising quickly to his feet.
“I’m sorry, Claire, I dinna ken what came over me,” his face was bright red and he was turned away from her.
“It’s alright, Jamie,” Claire sat up, her heart hammering. She had always wondered what it would be like to kiss him, but he apparently regretted it.
“I shouldna have done that,” Jamie cursed in Gaelic and before Claire could say that she liked it, Jamie had stormed out of the tent, leaving Claire alone, sitting on the picnic blanket.
++++++
Neither of them had spoken of the kiss since then and that was two years ago. Claire wondered if Jamie even remembered it had happened or maybe it had been so bad, he had forgotten it.
Claire thought he liked her, but clearly he didn’t and things had gone back to how they were before. Claire knew she fell in love easily — she always had a crush and for a long time her crush had been Jamie.
She would watch him nearly every night in the show, holding up hoops for the lions to jump through, admiring the hard muscles of his body. He was just two years younger than her, but already he looked like a man.
It came to no surprise, however, just how fast she fell for a man one night when Claire was introduced to a young investor by the name of Philip Wylie. He was in New York to see the show and was interested in becoming a partner with the Brothers.
“You’ve been with the circus for seven years?” He asked her over a drink one night. The show had just closed and people were still loitering around. She knew he was an important man by the fine material of his suit. Claire wanted to impress him, and help the circus bring in more money.
“Yes,” she smiled, “Joined when I was just a young girl.”
“That’s quite impressive,” Philip smiled, his hand resting lightly on her knee. “What is it that you do?”
“I help with the animals. Taking care of them, checking that they’re alright to perform for the night,” she placed her hand over his. Philip was at nine years older than her, and already she was smitten.
They talked for the rest of the evening and he escorted her back to her train car, kissing her on the cheek and promising to see her soon.
Blushing, Claire placed her hand over where Philip’s lips had just been, sighing as she leaned against the wall. Just then, Jamie came through the door, still wearing his costume from the performance.
He glanced over at her, his fingers deftly unbuttoning his coat. “Ye look happy.”
“I am,” she smiled. “I’ve just had drinks with a man who wants to invest with the circus.”
Jamie stopped undressing and stared over at her, noticing the glossy look in her eye and the red tint to her cheeks. “Ye mean that stuffy old man I saw ye wi’?”
“He is not stuffy! And he is not old!” Claire picked up a shoe nearby and tossed it at him, narrowly missing his head. “He was kind and charming, much nicer than you,” she rolled her eyes.
“Och,” Jamie grunted and finished taking off his coat. “Just be careful wi’ him. Next thing ye know, he’ll be wantin’ to take ye away.”
“And what’s wrong with that?” Claire crossed her arms, becoming annoyed with him.
“Well ye said ye wouldna leave,” Jamie turned to her. “Not for a proper job as ye say so I wouldna like to think ye’d leave for a man either.”
Claire’s mouth dropped open in shock and she crossed the small space to stand in front of Jamie, having to look up at him. “I’ve had a couple of drinks with the man, Jamie! Not accepted a proposal!”
“Forget I said anythin’,” Jamie ran his hands back through his hair, turning to leave to another car.
“Fine,” Claire huffed. “I’ll do just that, Jamie Fraser.”
He glanced at her, his eyes full of something Claire didn’t quite recognize before sliding the door closed and leaving her there on her own.
She knew it was important for Philip Wylie to want to invest in the circus, so perhaps she had flirted a bit too much and let him place his hands a little too high on her leg. But nothing would come of it, and besides… Claire would never leave the circus. Not for a real job, and certainly not for a man.
Outline for this fic:
Chapter 1: 1919. Claire’s background. She runs away to the circus, meets the Fraser’s
Chapter 2: 1919. Claire’s first day at the circus, she helps the Fraser’s and then Brian asks her what she’s good at. She tells him that her father was a vet and she was always around to help. He tells her they have a vet but she can be his young apprentice.
Chapter 3: 1926. Claire meets Philip Wylie. Two days later one of the animals gets sick and she stays overnight to keep it company. Jamie finds her and stays with her, on the other side of the train car. They talk more about what Claire would do if she left. Jamie tells Claire about Willie and how he died of the Spanish influenza when they came here. Claire asks him why they came to America, but he won’t talk about it.
Chapter 4: Jump forward two weeks later, and Claire has drinks again with Wylie. She kisses him and he puts his hands on her. Jamie sees them kissing and thinks that Wylie is trying to hurt Claire so he goes over and punches the guy. The next morning, Wylie shows up with a black eye and forgives Jamie, and says he’ll invest in the show on one condition - that Claire marries him.
Chapter 5: Claire feels like she has to marry Wylie to save the show and also she tells herself she loves him. Jamie is jealous, because he’s been in love with Claire since he first met her. That night he gets distracted at the show when he sees Wylie whispering into Claire’s ear and the lion scratches him. Jamie is rushed into the medical tent and the show continues. Claire helps tend to him and cries over him. Hours later as he is recovering, Claire tells Jamie that she’s going away with Wylie.
Chapter 6: Two weeks later, it’s Claire’s last day of the circus. Jamie tells her why they came to America. His father owed his uncles money, and after a time when Brian couldn’t pay, Colum wanted to show him a lesson. So he told one of his men to set fire to the small chicken coop, but a wind caught and it ended up burning down their house. They all escaped. Finally, she won’t have to be a girl on the run anymore. She will live with Wylie in New York City, and still be able to come to some of the shows on the east coast.
Chapter 7: Two months later. It’s two days before Claire’s wedding to Wylie, and she hears from him that the train crashed. He’s angry about losing money that he just invested and Claire keeps asking him if anyone is hurt. He finally tells her that six people died in a fire. Wylie tells Claire that she can’t go back to the circus, she left that behind and she belongs to him now. “I belong to nobody.” Claire leaves in search to find out if Jamie has died.
Chapter 8: Claire makes it to where the train car is. There’s still smoke from two days before and Claire finds Jenny who is crying. Claire thinks immediately that Jamie is dead, but Jenny is crying because one of the animals died. Claire cries with her and then asks about Jamie. Jenny tells her that all wounded men and women are at the hospital and so she takes her there. Claire finds Jamie and he’s badly wounded. Burns on his arms and legs. She sits with him and while he is asleep she tells him that she loves him and that she isn’t with Wylie anymore.
Chapter 9: Jamie starts to recover. He admits his feelings for Claire. He says they don’t have to get married just yet since they’re both young. He knows now that with a few of the train cars damaged, it’ll be weeks maybe months before they get back on the road. Jamie says that he wants to go to school and become a vet. Women aren’t allowed at school yet. They make plans to one day open up their own vet clinic.
Chapter 10: Once Jamie is out of the hospital, they walk back to the site of the crash. He tells Claire just how horrible it was. They both feel sad that this part of their lives is coming to an end. Jamie’s parents tell him that they will stay with the circus as long as they need. Jamie takes Claire back to the small hotel room and they make love for the first time with each other.
Epilogue: nine years later, Jamie has graduated from vet school and they have their first clinic open. They already have two children and live in the country, where Jamie travels to work. They have a whole farm of animals.

truth or dare
—idol!haechan x reader
summary: you are the assistant for nct dream and they have all grown fond of you, especially one ray of sunshine.
genre: fluff, confession, friends to lovers
word count: 1.6k
warnings: idk maybe swearing and mention of sexual acts? its really just fluff tbh
You have no idea on how you scored your job as NCT Dream's personal assistant. There you were, just a kid who came straight out of high school, working at a café in the fall. The university of your choice had advised you to wait one more year until you turn 18, for "maturity reasons". When you took your interview for the university last spring, you apparently "didn't have the composure that they were looking for", as restated by your high school principal. Sure, you may have been giddy and extremely excited for your interview, but that doesn't mean that you are too immature for university just because you are an age younger than everyone else. It turned out fine in the end though, because that same giddy and excited energy is what landed you the job at SM.
The job description you were handed was very intense, due to the special circumstances. They basically needed someone for the Dreamies to hang out with and to confide in, therefore there was a lot of liability contracts to sign. The SM managers believed with your feverish attitude and your seemingly caring nature, along with your age, you would be a perfect fit to keep the boys preoccupied. Along with the job came rooming and all expenses paid for by the management agency. You, of course, got a small dorm that wasn't too far away from the Dream members'.
When you first arrived the boys were distant, not knowing how to react to a new person around, especially a pretty girl their age. It wasn't until you ran into Chenle in the hall late one night that the distance was broken. You were just on your way to get your late night pizza delivery from downstairs when you saw Chenle trying to sneak back into his room. He knew he was busted since he can't be out past 10 but the clock currently read 11:30. You assured him his secret was safe and even invited him to eat pizza with you out in the hallway. You guys briefly discussed each of your individual backgrounds that got you both to where you were now. To Chenle's surprise, you were his age and yet still so chill? It just kind of blew his mind that he now has a girl friend. He also helped introduce you to the other members.
After a few months at this job and being with them every single day, you have made a special connection with each one of the boys. Jisung and you always love to pull pranks on the older boys just so Jisung could say "maknae on top", Chenle and you just enjoy each other's presence and try out a lot of new restaurants and cafés together, you love to go on outings to art museums and galleries with Renjun, and Jeno and Jaemin almost never leave your side and are constantly trying to push you to do new things with them. As for Mark and Haechan, you do see less of them as they have to go to NCT 127 and U practices and such, but Haechan always seems to find time in between to come and hang out with you and the boys.
The boys took a fast notice to Haechan's reappearing presence after you came, and they simply put the pieces together. One day when you had left to your dorm to go shower and get ready for bed, Jeno, Jaemin, and Renjun all bombarded into Haechan's room.
"So... Haechan it seems that you have been spending more time than usual with us instead of with the 127 hyungs, why is that?", Jaemin slyly asks.
Haechan tried his best not to tense up and replied calmly with, "I guess I just love you guys".
Renjun was quick to retort, "I bet we are not all you love", a grin spreading onto Renjun and Jeno's faces.
Haechan swallowed the apparent lump in his throat, "W-what do you mean?", he let out a dry laugh, "are you accusing me of loving Y/N?".
"Hey! You said it, not us!", Jeno countered while pointing at him.
"C'mon, admit it. It's written all over your face whenever she's here", Renjun whined.
Haechan took a seat and rubbed his face to prevent exhaustion. He hadn't even come to terms with his feelings. All he knew was that he thought you were spectacular and he loved being around you. Every time you needed to run an errand for the boys, such as coffee pick up or groceries, he would insist to come with you. He loved helping you pick out your clothes and when you would give him a mini fashion show of the options in your hall. He always made sure that you were standing right off stage waiting for him after a performance, as your mere presence calmed his jittery nerves down greatly. Every stressful moment he has had where he wanted to quit being an idol, you were consistently there to help him get through it.
Haechan sighed, "I guess I do like her", he quietly mumbled.
Ever since that confession, the boys haven't left Haechan alone, but alas, they did promise to keep his secret. Chenle and Jisung aren't in on the secret, as you are too close with Chenle and Jisung can't keep a secret to save his life.
It was currently 11 o'clock on a Friday night and you stuck inside with the Dreamies (minus Mark since he could actually go to some music ceremony), but Haechan had decided to stay with the boys after he heard you were bored inside with them. After growing tired of watching the ceremony live, Jaemin had mischievously suggested on playing truth or dare. With Jaemin, Jeno, and Renjun giving each other sly glances, Haechan knew that something bad was going to come out of this game. Haechan quickly tried to stand up, saying he was tired from the full day he had, but Chenle pushed down on his shoulder to get him to reluctantly stay.
"Please hyung? You never hang out with us!", Chenle whined.
You made a pouty face towards him while giving your best, "pretty please?".
Haechan sighed while fully knowing deep down, he couldn't say 'no' to your face.
After getting Renjun to admit his love for Ariana Grande, daring Jisung to touch a cockroach, and forcing Chenle to be tickled brutally so Jeno could get a video of him laughing to post later, it was finally Donghyuck's turn.
Jaemin gave him a roguish grin as he asked "truth or dare?".
Haechan knew that if he says 'truth' then he will be forced to admit his feelings towards Y/N, so confidently he went with 'dare'.
"Okay hyung", Jaemin pondered, "I dare you to give Y/N a lap dance".
"WHAT?", was all that managed to come out as you were choking on your soda.
"It's no big deal really", Jaemin calmly stated, although he had a devious plan in mind.
Chenle and Jisung were shocked as their hyungs have never been so dirty before, and Renjun and Jeno exchanging nervous glances while Jaemin sat with full confidence staring at Haechan. Haechan was shocked, he could never do that to Y/N!
"I p-pick truth!", was all that managed to come out of his agape mouth.
"Hmmm", Jaemin absent mindlessly thought, though he already knew what he was going to say. "Tell us who you like".
"And no lying!", Jeno quickly chimed in.
Haechan stuttered and avoided eye contact from everyone, "I-I can't".
Jaemin rolled his eyes, knowing Haechan had to fess up eventually, "well, you either have to do the dare of performing a very sexual act or you can merely tell us all who you like".
Haechan glared at Jaemin as he sat there with the biggest smirk on his face, knowing exactly what he was pushing at.
"What's wrong, Donghyuckie?", you say completely oblivious to who he likes, "don't you trust us?".
His face immediately softens towards you, but before he can reply Renjun counters with, "it's not that he doesn't trust us, he just doesn't want to tell them".
Your face filled with confusion as you look around the dorm, but it is only the six of you. "Are they here, hyuck?", you ask cluelessly.
He gives you a shy nod while still looking down. Chenle and Jisung's eyes widen as they look at you. Then only did it hit you, this lovable ray of sunlight had a liking towards you. You let out a small chuckle as you think about how kind and generous he has been and you now know why. While you sit there smiling like an idiot to yourself, Haechan is still avoiding eye contact and is physically shaking. You stand up and grab his hand, pulling him up with you, as you lead him to the balcony.
The view of Seoul was breathtaking, you let it linger in your head before you started speaking.
"I like you too, Donghyuckie", you say while still looking out into the city.
His head slowly rose and he was speechless. Everything seemed to add up. You looked so beautiful with the city lights reflecting onto your skin as the light breeze blew into your hair.
"You make my days better just by your presence, you always seemingly know how to make me feel better, you and your stupid jokes time and time again make me laugh", you pause to let out a small laugh just thinking about his jokes, "you really are my ray of sunshine, Hyuck". You finally get the nerves to look over at him, only to see him staring with his mouth agape, you can't help but giggle he's so precious.
"Y/N, you don't know how long i've been waiting for this", he says eyes filled with amazement as if he just saw a shooting star.
"Well then don't wait any longer and take me out", you say somehow radiating confidence, although you're holding back a laugh.
"You read my mind, Y/N".

24. Blizzard
Fandom: GOT7
Sickie: Yugyeom
Caregiver: GOT6
Jaebeom’s POV.:
The news had been warning of a blizzard headed towards our town for the last few days which was expected to hit within the next two days. People were asked to stay at home if possible and avoid leaving the safety of a building. We were compiling a shopping list to stock up on foods and other necessities to get us over the duration of the storm. Well, mostly Mark, Jinyoung and I were. Jackson, Youngjae and Bambam were just adding different chips flavors, claiming if they were stuck inside, they’d have to have movie nights. I turned around when I felt a tap on my shoulder. “Hyung, could you also add tissues, cough drops and maybe cold medicine to the list?”, Yugyeom asked shyly, causing me to frown. “Why? Are you sick?”, I asked, studying his face for any signs of illness. He scratched his neck awkwardly. “No. But, I don’t know, I think I might be coming down with something. Not sure though. Might be wrong. Just thought if the storm really gets as bad as they’re saying, it’d suck having to go out then”, rambling, he avoided my eyes. “Yah, the maknae’s right. Better safe then sorry”, Jinyoung announced, noting the youngest’s request along with some other emergency stuff Jackson blurted out. “Guys, don’t overreact. We’ll be stuck for a few days. A week at most and we might still be able to go out during the storm, but yeah, Yugyeom got a point”, I reasoned. We were finishing up our shopping list and I was arguing with myself whether to drag the annoying trio consisting of Jackson, Youngjae and Bambam with me to the stores, so they could spend some time out of the dorm before being stuck there for a short while or to leave them behind for the sake of my nerves. They made the decision themselves, claiming they needed to make sure we wouldn’t forget their chips. Jinyoung also tagged along at the pleading look I sent him, to keep them in check. Mark wanted to stay at home and Yugyeom had already disappeared back to his room when the five of us left for the stores.
Yugyeom’s POV.:
I sat on my bed after the awkward conversation with my hyungs. I was most certainly coming down with something, if I wasn’t already. There was a dull pressure behind my eyes and my throat burned every time I swallowed. Luckily, it wasn’t audible in my voice quite yet, so nobody could tell. Scrolling through my phone, my thoughts anxiously wandered back to being stuck with the entire group in a small apartment for days. It had been a while since all members were home at the same time and usually I would have been happy about us all spending some time together without at least one member missing but I didn’t feel so well. I don’t like my members to know when I don’t feel good. They always worry so much and it makes me uncomfortable. The more members are home, the more likely it is for somebody to notice. Especially after I spoke up about my concern earlier but I had to. I didn’t feel like leaving the house and I also didn’t feel like secretly stocking up but I also knew I might really need some stuff, so giving a small hint was the only option I had. The phone fell from my hand, shifting my attention to the tremors in my fingers. To fidgety to sit still, I got up from my bed and decided to get a drink, hoping to find some kind of distraction on the way to the kitchen. The dorm was quiet as I padded to the kitchen. I had some troubles pouring me a glass of juice, getting startled by Mark who had appeared behind me seemingly out of nowhere and spilling some. He apologized for sneaking up on me and helped me clean before grabbing himself a snack, which was the reason he had come to the kitchen in the first place.
I was about to flee back to my room when I felt his hand on my shoulder. Turning back around, I tried to mask the fear in my eyes. “What’s up, Gyeommie?” – “Haha, nothing much”, my hand went up to scratch the back of my head. “You know, I can tell something’s not right. It’s fine if you don’t want to talk about it but you know you can always come to me”, he smiled sadly and I considered my options. Right now, it only was the two of us and I knew Mark, he would stay quiet if I asked him to. It would be nice to get my worries of my chest by simply saying them out loud and for that Mark was probably the first choice as a listener anyways. He was about to walk away, only stopping when I grabbed his wrist. “C-Can we talk in my room?”
Without a word, Mark had followed me to my room, sitting next to me on my bed while still keeping some distance between us which I was very thankful for. “Umm, it’s about w-what I asked Jaebeom-h-hyung to add to the shopping list”, I started nervously, trying to keep my voice steady. Not daring to look at my oldest hyung, I stared at my hands, watching my fingers pick at each other’s nails. Mark stayed quiet, waiting for me to continue, only to realize that I wasn’t going to. “You are afraid of falling ill?”, he asked sympathetically and I nodded not daring to meet his eyes. “Can you pin-point exactly what is scaring you about it? Because you know, we’d all be there to make sure you’ll be fine in the end”, he followed his first guess up. “I-I think that is what is scaring me. This might sound weird but w-when you are worried, you all pay s-so much attention to me. I-I don’t want attention. I-It’s too much. I don’t know how to handle it and with more members at home, it’ll only be more eyes on me. It’s freaking me out, I just want to hide away and only come out when I’m all better”, cutting myself off when my breathing picked up pace, I realized what I had just admitted. “So, you’re already not feeling that well”, Mark asked carefully and I could only nod, praying he wouldn’t see my blush. Humming in thought he shifted around a bit. “You know, it’s alright if you get sick. I’m sure the others will respect it if you ask them to not bother you for a while. Yeah, maybe they will struggle a bit with stopping themselves because you are still somehow our baby. But if they know how much it stresses you out to be the center of attention, maybe we can still support you while giving you some space”, he mused. Meeting his eyes, I gave him a soft smile, feeling glad that I had opened up to my hyung. “Thanks”, I whispered, looking back at my hands “That really helped”. “Always. Are you alright with telling me how you’re feeling right now? Like are you already sick or just on the verge of it?”, he questioned carefully, afraid of taking his inquisition to far. “Umm, it’s not too bad yet. My throat is a little sore and I can feel the pressure of a cold that’s not there yet in my head but yeah, it’s probably just coming on in some time”, I tried to describe the sensation as best as I could. “Alright. You know you can come to any of us when it does and you want or need something. I’ll try to convince the others of giving you some space as well when you need it but that also means that although we’ll check on you, we’re relying on you to come to us, ok?”, he reminded me and I nodded because it seemed like a reasonable compromise. “Get some rest while it’s still quiet here”, he joked, getting up to leave. “Hyung”, I called out as his hand rested on the door handle “Thank you”.
I had actually managed to take a nap in the middle of the afternoon and woke up to loud bickering from the living room. Sighing, I picked up my phone to check the time and found a text from Mark, reading over it a few times before typing back.
Mark
Hey, what you said earlier got me thinking a bit because I still remember our pre-debut and early debut days. You always envied Bambam when he was babied and treated as the maknae when that would have actually been your spot. That’s why I was a bit surprised when we talked earlier…
Yugyeom
Yeah, I remember that too
Mark
What made you change your mind?
Yugyeom
Umm I don’t know
I had always wished for that kind of treatment back then
I guess I still do when thinking about it sometimes
But
It has never been that way
When I’m suddenly treated like this I don’t know how to feel about it.
It feels strange, I’m not used to it
I don’t know how to react and just get awkward
And I don’t like being awkward
I don’t know if that explanation makes sense, it’s kinda hard to put it into words
Mark
I can see your point, though it’s sad
Thank you for being so open
Yugyeom
Thank you for trying to understand
I rolled off my bed, the progressive achiness in my muscles forcing me to suppress a groan. Making my way to the living room, I immediately ran into Youngjae who was bragging about all the snacks they had bought and which movies were planned to be watched over the next few days. I didn’t really pay attention to him, his loud voice was giving me a headache. Trying to be a good maknae, I helped the older hyungs unpack their shopping bags, sorting the groceries into the kitchen cabinets. There was some chaos in the kitchen till everything was stored away. The question of what to cook for dinner arose, reminding me that I didn’t have much of an appetite at all. That’s why I stayed quiet during the loud discussion that broke out, opting for just taking a shower and then listen to music till I was called to the table to have dinner.
The shower had been nice. I had turned the water up hotter than usual as it soothed the heaviness in my limbs. Standing under the hot stream of water, it was only then that I had realized that I had been feeling cold before, turning the water temperature even higher. I sat at the dinner table with my hair still damp because I was to tired to handle the noise of the hairdryer. My appetite still nonexistent, I was mostly just pushing my food around, only taking bites when I felt someone watching me. Most of the time when I looked up to see who was watching me, I was met with Mark’s encouraging smile and although I appreciated his support, I regretted talking to him earlier because I could tell he was observing me closely now. That’s why after I had only finished half of my dinner, I didn’t dare hide away in my room and forced myself to join the others for a movie. Had anyone asked me about the storyline by the end of it, I wouldn’t have been able to recount it, spending most of the movie’s duration fighting to stay awake. How could I be this tired after having an afternoon nap? We all told each other ‘good night’ before going to our respective rooms.
“Hey, you still awake?”, Bambam uttered. “Mhm” – “Are you also nervous about the blizzard coming?” – “Why hyung?” – “I don’t know. I should be used to intense storms, since there were often bad ones in Thailand but something about the fact that there’ll be snow makes me fidgety”, Bambam admitted. “Don’t worry, there’ll be no difference. We just need to distract ourselves while we can’t go out. I doubt that will be difficult with all the movies you guys have planned, besides, there are also video games”, I mumbled into my pillow. “Right, thanks Gyeommie. Sleep well.” – “Good night hyung.”
I tried going to sleep like Bambam had told me but now my afternoon nap was biting me in the ass. Despite being exhausted, I didn’t feel sleepy at all, so I kept tossing and turning, trying to find a comfortable position. Although I managed to nod off at some point, I only slept for ten to twenty minutes at a time, constantly waking up again. At 3am I had given up on proper sleep, instead putting my headphones in and only dozing while listening to a calm playlist. Around 5am I pulled myself out of my sleepy haze to go to the bathroom. On the way back to my room I was becoming more and more aware of a general feeling of unwellness that had settled over me. My throat ached as much as yesterday, while the pressure in my head had turned into a dull, pounding headache. It was impossible to breathe through my blocked nose and the tingling at the back of my nostrils became more prominent by the minute, not strong enough to make me sneeze though.
In hopes some water would sooth my throat, I grabbed my phone, headphones and a blanket, venturing to the living room to put my stuff down before getting a drink from the kitchen. Sitting my water slowly, I settled on the couch, covering my legs and lap with the blanket before putting my headphones back in, trying to doze again fore a bit longer after finishing my drink.
Jinyoung’s POV.:
I got up early today, wanting to prepare a more time-consuming breakfast then usual to celebrate the start of the holiday season. Having discussed this with Bambam who had pleaded to let me join him, I made my way to the maknaes’ shared bedroom, furrowing my brows at weird noises I heard coming from the living room. I decided to wake Bambam up first before checking for the source of the noise because I’d like to have another member with me if there was an intruder. Sneaking into the room, to not accidentally wake Yugyeom too, I find the maknae’s bed empty, finally identifying the noises from the living room as Yugyeom’s typical, high-pitched half-stifles. Getting worried about the number of sneezes I had heard, I gently but quickly shake the rapper’s arm to get him to wake up. When I was sure he wouldn’t go back to sleep, I left to check on our youngest in the living room.
Yugyeom was sitting on the couch, holding a blanket up to his face in an attempt to muffle his sneezes. I approached him trying not to startle him, since he seemed too occupied to notice me presence. When he finally caught a break for a bit and lowered the blanket, I carefully spoke up, making him jump a bit. “Good morning” – “Oh by god, Hyu’g. You albost gave be a heart attack. Dob’t do that! Ugh, good bording”, he stammered, the shock still visible on his face. “Are you feeling alright? You sure have been sneezing a lot…”, I quizzed, studying his face. “Yeah *sniff* by dose is jus’ really itchy”, he sniffed, rubbing at his watery eyes. “Caught a cold?”, I observed, knowing my chance of an honest answer was higher if I approached the issue head-on. “Hah’ktCHhsx! *sniff* probably”, he admitted, dropping his head in his hands. “How long have you been awake already? It’s still early” – “Dod’t kdow. Did’t really sleep”, he whined muffled by congestion. “Do you think you could sleep now?”, I asked, receiving a shake of his head. “Alright, Bambam and I are going to make dinner, why don’t you try to at least doze a bit? I’ll make you some tea in a bit”, I offered and he nodded, laying back: “Thagks, hyu’g”.
The water in the kettle just started to boil when Bambam shuffled into the kitchen, seeminly still half-asleep. “Hyung, Yugyeom’s gone”, he yawned. “Nope, he’s in the living room, didn’t you see him”, I chuckled at the confused look on the rapper’s face as he had passed by his roommate without noticing him. *“hh’NGtx’ch! ha’INGTch“* “Ah, yes, that is definitely him. How did I not notice? I need coffee”, he stated. I poured the water over a teabag to let it steep before making coffee for both of us. “Could you bring that cup to Yugyeom while ours cool, so we can get started afterwards?”, I asked, pushing the tea closer to Bambam. “Sure, is he sick or something?”, he frowned. “Yeah, caught a cold last night”, I explained, already gathering some cooking utensils we were going to need. Bambam nodded before making his way to the living room.
Bambam’s POV.:
I wasn’t sure whether my only dongsaeng was awake by the way he was curled up on the couch which was way too small for him to fit on it properly. That was till he jolted up with a harsh sneeze. He rubbed at his face, groaning before his watery eyes met mine. “Hey, heard you’re not doing so great. Jinyoung made you tea”, I smiled handing him the cup. “Thagks”, he mumbled, blowing into the steam to make the tea cool down faster. I patted his shoulder sympathetically before returning to Jinyoung. Mark had talked to us all, except for Yugyeom, yesterday while the maknae was in the shower. He prepared us that the youngest was most likely falling ill over the next few days and that he was scared of getting more affection than he knew how to handle. We agreed that if he was to be ill, we would give him some space while still trying to discreetly show him some love. I was really insecure about how I was going to do that, afraid I would either be taking it too far or treat him too coldly. For now, I just wanted him to rest so I helped Jinyoung with breakfast, attempting to distract myself. My thoughts however, kept going back to Yugyeom and the fact that he was scared of our affection. I still remembered it being different and him actually being really down because he didn’t get as much as I did because he wasn’t short and cute.
The group had gradually woken up and shuffled into the kitchen, laying the table and taking in the sight in the living room. It wasn’t that big of a surprise, since everyone had expected the maknae to fall ill, just not that soon. Even Youngjae and Jackson kept the noise down because the soft, congested snores indicated that Yugyeom had actually managed to fall asleep. I was about to wake him when breakfast was ready but Jinyoung stopped me, claiming Yugyeom had been unable to sleep most of the night, so we should just let him rest and save him some food.
After we finished eating, we quietly cleared the table, Mark and Jaebeom doing the dishes, since Jinyoung and I had cooked. Youngjae, Jackson and I went to brush our teeth while Jinyoung carefully stepped into the living room.
Jinyoung’s POV.:
I had expected for the youngest to still be asleep but when I walked in, he was sitting at the edge of the couch about to get up. I took a seat next to him on the couch, facing him. “How do you feel after sleeping a bit?”, hummed, scanning his features for any giveaways about his physical condition. His eyes and nose had tinted an irritated shade of pink that matched the blush on his cheeks while the rest of his face looked paler than usual. “I’b ok. Just really wiped”, he rasped, voice scratchier than before. “Worse than earlier?” – a nod- “Can I check if you have a fever? Your cheeks look like it” – another nod- I reached out to first brush my hand against his forehead before cupping his cheek, keeping it there a bit longer than I would have needed to notice the heat against my skin, as I felt the younger lean into my touch. Before pulling away completely, I ran my hand through his hair stating: “You definitely do have a fever.” He hummed in acknowledgement, fiddling with the sleeve of the hoodie he had slipped on. “Do you feel up to having breakfast? We saved you some, since we didn’t want to wake you” – “Thagks hyu’g. Dot so hu’gry yet. Ughh what’s up with by voice?”, he croaked, trying but failing to clear his voice. “I thigk I’ll just go back to by bed”, he continued, sounding just as bad as before. “Ok, well since you can’t yell if you need something, just shoot a text, yeah? Rest well”, I squeezed his shoulder comfortingly before getting back up. He thanked me quietly before wobbling back to his room looking ready to crash.
Remembering the cough drops we had bought yesterday, I swiftly followed him, brushing my knuckles against the door before entering. He looked up at me expectantly as I put the bag of cough drops on his nightstand. “Might help your voice some”, I explained, leaving him to get some rest.
Mark’s POV.:
It had been a few hours since we had last seen Yugyeom. It was almost lunchtime and he hadn’t eaten anything yet, so I went to check on him. I was expecting him to be asleep but found him curled into a tight ball under his blankets crying softly. “Hey, I came to see how you’re holding up. Not that great, huh?”, I murmured, sitting back next to him. He shook his head, wiping at his face. “What’s wrong?” – “Feel shitty”, he whimpered, his voice cracking. “Can you describe me what feels shitty? Then I can try to find you some medicine” – “By head is goi’g to explode sood, my throat’s burding a’d by dose itches so badly but I cad sdeeze. Everythi’g hurts soo buch a’d I’b cold”, he croaked, tears spilling over again. Tangling my fingers in his hair, I scratched his scalp, knowing it would calm him down eventually. “Aww shit, you’re burning up”, I cooed, flinching as I touched his forehead. He just whimpered scooting closer to me and I felt like during our pre-debut days. “I really think you could use some medicine, Gyeommie. But that means you’d have to eat a few bites first. Can you do that for me?”, I pleaded, continuing to play with his hair. “Really dot hu’gry, hyu’g”, he rasped, frowning at the thought of food. “I know. It doesn’t even have to be much. We made some soup, just eat a bit and then you can have medicine”, I settled, texting Jinyoung to bring us a small bowl of soup.
Jinyoung kept the maknae company while he ate and I went through the bathroom cabinets to find the right types of medicine. Choosing a painkiller, fever-reducer and a decongestant for good measure, I grabbed a bottle of water before returning to Yugyeom’s room. With Jinyoung’s encouragement, the sickie had managed to choke down the entire bowl, which to be fair wasn’t much but it was better than nothing. Before he lay back down again, I handed him the pills and opened the waterbottle so he could wash them down. Jinyoung and I exchanged a long look, debating if and which one of us should stay to watch over our dongsaeng, afraid that both of us would overwhelm him. “Gyeommie, do you want any of us to keep you company?”, Jinyoung asked pulling the blanket up, so it would cover Yugyeom’s shoulder. “I-I’b ok od by owd” – “That’s not what I asked, brownie”, he frowned. “Ugh, could you stay, hyu’g”, he uttered so quiet that both of us almost missed it as he hesitantly reached for Jinyoung’s hand. “You don’t even have to ask”, Jinyoung smiled as he got comfortable on the bed as well, pulling the maknae into his arms.
I left them, only sneaking back in shortly to put a pot of tea along with a cup onto the nightstand, before meeting the rest of the group in the living room. Youngjae and Bambam were engaged in a tricky videogame task, while Jaebeom and Jackson commented, trying to be helpful but actually only being a distraction to the two players. Jaebeom was the first to notice my presence, worry evident in his eyes: “How is he doing?” – “Worse than earlier. His fever went up, making him emotional. Jinyoung’s staying with him for now”, I sighed, plopping down next to the others. Bambam paused the game, frowning: “Can we do anything to cheer him up? I can’t stand him being sad.” I shrugged not really sure on what to do to cheer the youngest up. “What about hot chocolate and cuddles while watching a movie?”, Youngjae suggested. “Yeah, chocolate always helps, as do cuddles”, Jackson agreed. “I don’t know. Let’s wait till the medicine is working and he feels less dead, then you can ask if he feels up for it”, I reasoned, amused at their enthusiasm to help our dongsaeng. “Ok, but we can prepare now already”, Bambam announced, turning the console off completely. They shooed Jaebeom and me off the couch to extend it to a make-shift bed, piling heaps of pillows and blankets onto it. “You really do want all of us to get sick”, Jaebeom laughed, imagining all seven members huddled together in front of the TV. “If it makes Yugyeom happy, why not?”, Jackson shrugged, dumping the last few pillows he could find.
Feeling not in the position to kill their drive, I went to the kitchen to prepare a large pot of hot cocoa, though I was a bit worried. What if Yugyeom didn’t want to join us? Sure, we’d cuddle, watch movies and drink hot chocolate anyways for the sake of the three members who put so much effort into creating a cozy space. That didn’t mean they wouldn’t be crushed by the maknae turning down their invitation though. I just hoped he’d want and also enjoy us all spending some time together. Deep in thought, I got startled by the hand Jaebeom placed onto my shoulder. “What are you thinking about?”, he hummed, cringing at the amount of chocolate I was adding. “I’m a bit Yugyeom doesn’t want to join us or will only do it for the sake of the others”, I confided in the leader. Checking the time, I noticed that it had already bin 45 minutes since I had given the youngest his medicine so I decided it should be working by now. “Jaebeom, could you go ask him and Jinyoung while I fill this into cups?”, I looked at him pleading, gesturing towards the pot and he nodded walking off.
Yugyeom’s POV.:
Despite Jinyoung’s best attempts to lure me to sleep by petting my hair, I was unable to find rest. That’s why I appreciated my hyung’s presence even more. I really didn’t want to suffer by myself. The medicine Mark had given me was slowly taking effect, the pounding in my had been reduced to a dull ache and I think my fever went down a bit too, since my brain didn’t feel as hazy as before. A short knock on the door caused me to look up as Jinyoung softly answered: “Come in!” The door opened revealing our group’s leader who crouched next to me. “Hey, are you feeling a bit better?”, he asked, brushing the hair out of my face so he could see me better. I nodded, yearning for him to touch me like that again. Our leader is rarely that soft but when he is, it’s really precious. “The troublemakers set up a huge pillow- and blanket-pile in the living room, hoping you’d join them for cuddles and a movie. Mark made hot chocolate and although there are about two kilos more chocolate in there than I think could ever taste good, I’m sure you’d like it”, he exaggerated, making me smile a bit. My hyung really disliked sweet stuff. He already had me at ‘cuddles’ because, right now I was yearning for some affection, spoken or physical didn’t matter. With how low I felt, I also didn’t really care about what might be awkward as long as they’d distract me from my suffering. I gave a small nod, letting the leader pull me to my feet as Jinyoung got up as well. Seeing me stumble with dizziness, they both stayed close to support me as we slowly made our way to the living room.
Jaebeom hadn’t been lying, where did we even keep that many pillows and blankets? The others’ faces lit up as they saw me and I waved at them before being pulled into a tight hug. Jaebeom and Jinyoung stepped aside laughing and I just let myself be dragged towards the couch, my friends immediately latching onto me. I didn’t mind, it was comfortable. Mark walked in, balancing a large tray with numerous cups on it, needing Jinyoung to take them off the tray and place them onto the coffee table. “Ah, Gyeommie. I wasn’t sure if you’d join us but I got you your cocoa anyways and would have just brought it to your room, had you not wanted to come”, he smiled, handing me my favorite cup. Being sandwiched between Jackson and Bambam, with Youngjae lying next to my legs, I let Jaebeom drape a blanket around my shoulders while Jinyoung turned on the TV. “Which movie do you want to watch?”, Jinyoung asked and all eyes landed on me. “Uhb, I dod’t really care. I’ll probably fall asleep id the biddle adyways”, I stammered. “It doesn’t matter if you fall asleep or not. It’s your pick anyways”, Jackson stated, as the others nodded in affirmation. “Could we watch ‘A Christbas Carol’ if you dod’t bidt?”, I requested, fiddling with the edge of the blanket. My hyungs agreed, turning on the movie before settling into the pillows as well.
After lots of shifting around over the course of the movie, I had ended up with my head in Jaebeom’s lap. The leader had absentmindedly started to play with my hair, gently scratching my scalp. It felt so good that I struggled to stay awake. My head had started to hurt again but my hyung’s hands worked like magic. Not paying attention to the movie at all anymore, I closed my eyes and failed to suppress a content sigh.
Jaebeom’s POV.:
I heard a quiet sigh and looked down at Yugyeom’s relaxed face. His eyes were closed and I was pretty sure he had fallen asleep on me, now that he was finally accepting our affection. The medicine was probably wearing off by now, as his cheeks were flushed pink again. When he blinked his eyes open for a few seconds, proving he was still awake, I noticed the glossy look in his eyes, a dead giveaway that his fever had climbed again. He unintentionally whined when my hand stilled for a moment and I was quick to continue playing with his hair. Jinyoung and I exchanged a look, both well aware that our youngest was feeling really bad. He would never ask for physical comfort but right now it seemed he desperately needed it. The movie soon ended but none of us dared to move. Jackson cooed at the maknae lying comfortably in my lap and I shot the rapper a glare, warning him not to make fun of the situation. “Gyeommie, are you awake?”, I whispered quietly as to not wake him should he have fallen asleep. He wasn’t asleep however, blinking at me. “Do you want to go back to bed and sleep?”, I asked, watching him struggle to stay awake. “Do, I’b cobfy. Dod’t bove”, he rasped, closing his eyes again. “Guys, why don’t you just put on another movie?”, Mark asked, observing our youngest. Sharing a look, we all agreed without words that we’d sit the entire night, watching Christmas movies, as long as Yugyeom was comfortable.
Bambam’s POV.:
Somewhere during the third movie of the night, all my members had fallen asleep. Yugyeom was the first to nod off. He lay passed out with his head in Jaebeom’s lap, light congested snores coming from his direction. I was the only one awake at this point, continuing to watch movies by myself. They gave me a distraction from what was going on outside our dorm. Over the last few hours, the wind had picked up and I could hear it whistle past our windows. The rational part of my brain told me that we were fine inside the building, it was warm, we had light, everything was ok. To me it didn’t feel ok though. My stomach was in anxious knots as I tried to ignore the noise outside. It worked alright till suddenly everything went pitch black and I wasn’t able to see anything at all anymore. Being frozen in shock, I didn’t think to turn on my phone as a light source. All I could do was sit there and try to breathe while the sobs squeezed the air out of my lungs.
After what felt like an eternity, I almost got blinded as Mark who had woken up from my rough, choking breathing turned his phones flashlight on, shining it in my eyes. Cursing quietly, he freed himself from the blankets and hurried to my side, almost tripping over Youngjae in the process. “Hey Bammie, everything’s ok, try to breathe with me”, he instructed, holding my hand to his chest as he demonstrated slow deep breaths. But how should I believe him that everything was fine? The power had just cut off and there was a massive storm outside. Slowly there were more and more members waking up as I struggled to mirror Mark’s breathing pattern while my mind raced faster than the wind outside. After a few minutes, I could see their concerned faces through the tears in my eyes. The living room was dimly lit by candles. I was just catching my breath as Jinyoung kneeled down in front of me squeezing my knee. “Bam, can you tell me what happened?”, he asked in a hushed voice. “I was awake and then the power cut off. The wind is so strong”, I rambled, still clutching Mark’s shirt. Now that my hyungs were with me, assuring me that we were safe, it was easier for me to believe it. Jinyoung had taken my empty cocoa mug and now returned to the living room after refilling it with warm milk with honey. Still shaken, I thanked him, slowly sipping the warm drink. It was something that never failed to soothe me and of course my members knew that.
When I had finished my drink, I was finally calm again, even a bit sleepy. Mark had rubbed my back the entire time and now got up, stretching when he was satisfied I was ok. After running hot and sweating during my initial panic, I now felt cold and started to shiver a bit. Yugyeom looked at me sleepily and opened his arms. “Cobe here, hyu’g. I probise, I’b warb”, he slurred. Not having to be asked twice, I quickly got up and cuddled into the maknae’s side. He didn’t lie, the heat was still radiating off of him. “Sleep!”, he ordered with closed eyes as Jackson spread a blanket over both of us and Jaebeom turned on a Christmas playlist to drown out the noise coming from outside. I did, we all did. Despite the storm raging outside, we were safe in each others’ presence and with the candles illuminating the living room, I felt a sense of peace which I was certain the others felt too.

Ouija
Author: Ama
Title: Ouija
Pairing: Possible Future Beetlejuice/Reader
Character/s: Beetlejuice
Word Count: 2, 473 words
Warnings: Beetlejuice has dyslexia, I do not, I tried.
Tags: @yankyo, @justballoonfishthings, @breadbudzo, @aethersghoulette, @ironically-deadinside, @beetlejuicecansteponme, @beetlebitchywitch (some of you asked, some of you I just tagged bc)
Prompt: You find a Ouija board and end up communicating with a ghost who has trouble spelling. Together you figure out a way for him to communicate with you a little bit easier.
Notes: I promised this fic like ages ago, based off of @slut-4-beetlejuice hcs that they wrote ages ago and we kinda did a dance of reblogs where we added to each other. But yeah, this is what I came up with! My plan for this fic is to do it in two parts and if y’all want more I can write more later, but I’m basically gonna portray your side of the story and then our favourite residential ghost with the most. This, obviously, is the reader’s side of the story. This is my first attempt at writing Beetlejuice as a fic, not as a hc so please be gentle with me. I hope y’all enjoy! Also, I had speechie friendo talk to me about dyslexia and I based Beej’s spelling mistakes around the notes she sent me.
Ouija Board Inspiration
Buy Me a Coffee
Ouija
It had started out innocently enough. You were bored and decided to spend the day exploring your new attic. You found a box filled with old games and decided that you wanted to sort through them, see if any were unusual or rare that you could keep. Most of them, you planned to donate somewhere, or put them back into storage.
You weren’t expecting much. Maybe a torn-up game of Twister, or Mouse Trap. Half a pack of Uno cards, or a ruined game of Trouble, and for the most part, you got what you expected. But when you found the Ouija board, you were a little surprised. Most of the games were for children, and weren’t in good enough nick to keep, let alone play. But the Ouija board looked like it just came out of the factory that created it. You go to lift the case from the bottom of the box, surprised by how heavy it was when you started to lift, nearly dropping it twice when you finally got it out and onto the table in front of you. Carefully, you lift the lid.
No wonder it was heavy. The Ouija board was wooden, and bigger than you were expecting. The dark wood had been engraved with the usual things a Ouija has, Yes, No, Goodbye, numbers 0-9 and every letter of the alphabet, the outside decorated with various designs you couldn’t make out in the dark. The one you could recognise was the pentagram engraved between the Yes and the No on the board. The planchette was also heavy, made from the same wood as the board, engraved with just two x’s, indicating where to put your finger.
You look over at the board as you hold the planchette in your hands. You were bored, yes. The attic was now in a state, yes. But the urge to test out the Ouija board was beginning to get too great. You organise yourself on the floor, placing the planchette in the middle of the board and just.... waiting. Not really sure on what to do now.
“Uh…hello?” Your voice is uncertain before you yelp when the cursor on the board begins to move. Yes, your fingers are on the x’s, but you weren’t providing any pressure. It just moved on its own.
‘H – I.’ The cursor spells out as your brain sort circuits as it returns to the centre of the board.
“Uhhhhh.” You pause, not sure how to proceed. “I’m Y/N. What’s your name?” The planchette seems to shake a little before moving towards the ‘No’ part of the board, returning to the centre. “You don’t want to tell me?” It moves back to the ‘No’. “That’s ok then. Can I ask if you’re really dead?” It moves to the ‘Yes’. “Is that yes I can ask, or yes you are?”
‘YES, I – A – M – D – E – D.’ You repeat the phrase once you’ve spelt out the letters quietly to show you’re aware of which letter the ghost was indicating with. “Sorry, I didn’t think I’d get a response, or one so soon.”
‘F – L – G – U – R – E – D.’
“Can I ask some questions about life after death?” You wait for the cursor to move over the Yes before continuing. “Is there a hell?”
So, it continued. Every day, after work, you’d come home and race up to the attic and spend time talking to your ghostly friend, who still wouldn’t tell you their name. All you knew was they were dead, had been for centuries, were bored, and were something called a bio-exorcist (which took a couple of attempts to spell). You also learnt that any form of parental figure, they hated, and any form of rules and regulations was not something they enjoyed.
You also noticed that they had a weird tendency to refuse certain questions or struggled to spell words correctly when they did. Sure, exorcist, intelligence and February weren’t easy words to spell when you weren’t writing them down, but replacing b’s for d’s and p’s for q’s, c’s for o’s and n’s for m’s. There were a lot of little things you picked up over time made you think perhaps there was more to this story.
So, you changed direction. One evening, you were talking about work and things that annoyed you and a question you thought they’d be fine answering, but the planchette just started to shake. You pause for a second, trying to figure out what was wrong. “Do you want to answer the question?” The cursor slides quickly and heavily to the ‘Yes’, causing you to move your whole body with it before it tentatively returns to the centre of the board. You think for a second as the planchette continues to vibrate with what feels like annoyance. “Can you spell the answer?” The planchette stops moving and everything is still. It’s so quiet, you could hear a pin drop. You wait for thirty seconds before you say “Hello?” and like that, the cursor slowly, tentatively, goes over towards the ‘No’ part of the board followed by a ‘A-L-W-A-Y-S-B-E-E-M-A-B-A-D-S-P-E-L-E-R. “Oh. That’s ok, I’m pretty rubbish without spell check too. Take your time.” Everything stops for a second, the energy that is always humming when you’re up here seems to have dropped to a low throb, and you slowly remove your hands from the planchette as you think.
‘How can I make this easier for them?’ You hum for a second before returning your hands to the board. “Would you prefer yes or no questions?” The planchette slides quickly over to the ‘Yes’ and you smile. “Ok, if something isn’t a yes or no question, I’ll provide answers and you can slide to the numbers to tell me which one is appropriate. Does that work?” Again, ‘Yes’.
Life moves on. It was weird at first, but you got used to asking only yes or no questions and becoming content with that as a response. A few more weeks went by, you slowly began to spend more time talking to the ghost in the attic. It was fascinating, and you were lonely and suspected they were too. Why else would they talk to you night after night after night? You never brought up the idea that perhaps they may have been lonely, but you focused on making sure like they felt like they had a friend.
A few more weeks had passed before you came up with a new idea. As good as it was to make them feel like they weren’t stupid for their spelling, you felt like you were muting them or speaking on their behalf. So, on your Saturday evening as you ate your dinner and you asked a question about if they enjoyed scaring people whenever they got the chance and the planchette moved by its own accord, you stared down at the board for a few minutes in shock. “You can move things WITHOUT me helping?”
‘Yes.’
“Why the fuck do I have to hold it then?” You forget to offer options as you take a breath, hearing the planchette slide across the board. “Its fine, I was just in shock.” You explain, not looking at what the ghost was being said. An idea pings in your head. “With your bad spelling, does it affect your reading or is it easier? One for both are hard, two for reading is easier.”
The planchette wobbles for a second before it slides over between the two. ‘R-E-A-D-I-M-G-I-S-S-T-I-L-L-H-A-R-D.’ It spells out. ‘B-UT-N-O-T-A-S-H-A-R-D-A-S-S-P-E-L-I-M-G.’
You can sense the confusion in the room as you nod, already thinking of a plan. “Have you always struggled with reading and spelling?” ‘A-L-W-A-Y-S-B-U-T-I-N-J-U-S-T-S-T-U-P-I-D’ You you’re your heart break slightly when they call themselves that. “Sweetheart, have you ever heard of the term dyslexia?” ‘No’. “It’s where your brain struggles to recognise letters or sounds, it makes it hard for people to read and write. They often miss letters or get letters mixed up, or sometimes even add letters that aren’t meant to be there.” You explain gently. “I think you may have the same kind my friend has. He reads a lot even though it’s a struggle, but if you get him to spell, he’s absolutely hopeless. Amazing at math, though. Like a walking calculator.” You smile as you get distracted before you shake your head and bring yourself back to the present. “I don’t think you’re stupid, love, I think perhaps your brain just isn’t wired to like letters and words.” You explain as you fiddle with your hands, unsure on where to put them. The planchette doesn’t move, but you can feel the air growing thicker.
‘N-O-T-S-T-U-P-I-D’ – the planchette draws a question mark over the entire board. You shake your head.
“Not stupid at all, pet.” A few seconds pass before the planchette moves over to the ‘Goodbye’ section. You sigh, slightly disappointed that they wanted to leave so soon. “I’ll see you tomorrow then.”
You ran late to work the next day, replaying the conversation in your head with your resident ghost over and over again as it kept you up later and later into the night. Your plan wasn’t well thought out at this stage, but you could get things started.
You stay late after work to make up for the hour that you missed this morning before rushing to the bookshop, making it there 10 minutes before they closed. You found what you wanted and quickly purchased it before rushing home, making sure to grab something for dinner as you drive home.
The moment you arrived home and placed your bags by the front door, the house felt empty. For the first time since using the Ouija board, the house felt like you were the only one in it. Pulling out the Ouija board, you asked if they were here. Nothing. You put your fingers on the planchette. Nothing again. You call out to them to see if they were there, nothing. You sigh before packing it back up. Perhaps your new-found friend had moved on.
It was a few days before your ghostly friend returned. The house had felt barren the entire time they were gone, you had stopped bringing out the board the day they returned, figuring that they just weren’t going to come back. A loud crash from the living room caused you to run out from the kitchen where you were preparing dinner to see what had happened. On the floor was the Ouija board, set up and ready to go with the planchette moving wildly across the board, so fast you couldn’t keep up.
“Hang on, hang on, hang on.” You rush back upstairs to grab the item you had purchased for them the week prior before rushing back downstairs and putting it next to the board with a satisfying thud. “I got you a dictionary, they had one with pictures which I thought could help.” You explain to where you hoped the ghost was. You put a pen in front of the giant book. “Just…. point I guess to the word you want to say. If you want to try it this way that is, I thought it might be easier for you.”
The air seemed thick as you waited for something to move, the planchette or the book. Suddenly, the cover of the book seemed to gingerly open as the ghost slowly looked for the words he was looking for. ‘IT-IS-EASIER’ they indicated with the pen. You smile as the pages begin to turn in a flurry, clearly excited to be able to communicate with you a bit easier.
So, life continued. The ghost (who you later found out was a man) would follow you from room to room, carrying the pen and the book to indicate different words to you, making comments on nearly everything that he wasn’t able to before, from the shade of paint on your walls (he thought they should be green) to what you were wearing (he was really into you wearing stripes for some reason), he would readily give your opinion on everything. It was weird, but you could feel yourself slowly falling for the now forever talking ghost. The freedom that came with the dictionary meant that your conversations become more…. conversation like. He wasn’t restricted to just yes or no answers, and you weren’t restricted to staying in one room. You found yourself having dinners next to the constantly page flipping book and laughing at his bad jokes and giving some back of your own. You found small doodles on the outside of the dictionary too, his own little crude drawings he did when you weren’t home. It was nice, it felt like some kind of perverse kind of domestic.
It had been months since your initial contact with him, and you still didn’t know his name and, to be honest, it was beginning to bug you. You didn’t say or show your annoyance about not knowing his name, but you figured it was time you knew. So, when you came home that night and had set up your dinner in your usual set up, you finally decided to ask. “Can I know your name?”
It took a minute before your squatter decided to respond. ‘ORION-BRIGHT-STAR’.
“Orion’s brightest star?” You say, almost as a question as you pull out your phone to do a quick Google. “Beetlejuice?” You look up to see a fury of pages flying as he quickly makes his way over to the ‘A’ section of the dictionary.
‘AGAIN’
“Beetlejuice?”
The pen slams back down on the page. ‘AGAIN.’
You hesitate. “Beetlejuice?”
There was a crash, a bang, and way too much smoke that filled the room as bright green lights seemed to radiate from outside your house. You cough and wave your hand to clear the smoke from your mouth when you finally hear it.
“Thanks for that babes, I’ve been wanting you to see me for months now.” You blink before you see him. He was-
Cuter than you were expecting. Shorter too. Not the scary man you had envisioned, but rather an adorable guy dressed in arguably way too many stripes, even though it seemed to suit. The green in his hair was vibrant and his whole being seemed to shake with excitement. For the first time in a long time, you didn’t know what to say.
“What’s wrong babes? Cat got your tongue?” He leans in closer to take a better look at you, but all you could focus on was the bright green of his eyes.
“You’re hotter than I imagined.” You heard yourself say before you turn bright, bright red. The grin on his face widens as he chuckles lowly, sending a shiver up your spine.
“Oh babes, we are going to have so much fun.”

SSR Masunaga Kazuna [HOME] Card Stories
“It’s been a while, everyone! I’m sorry to hear about the news about the game, but I hope everyone feels a bit better after reading this. In this story you can have a better understanding of Kazu’s character as well as his family dynamics. Warning: Angst :)” - Kei
HOME 01
Kazuna: Good work, everyone. Sorry I’m late.
Mikado: It’s fine, Leader, good work with practice. It must be hard for Tsubasa-san every day as well.
Tsubasa: No, the members have it harder…
Tatsuhiro: So, how’s training?
Kazuna: Not bad. Archery suits me better than I thought.
Hikaru: To appear at the event with only one month intensive training and I thought it was an unreasonable project similar to “Sports TV”, but Leader might seriously win, don’t you think so?!
Momotaro: I think there is a chance. The other day when we visited, you were mostly hitting the center.
Kazuna: Hope it goes well during the actual event as well. I’m sure that the distinction between professionals and amateurs will be obvious there. But, I think training one’s body has become very important to me…? Being able to control my breathing has allowed me to become more comfortable in nerve-wrecking and difficult situations.
Mikado: By making a sport with no previous experience into relaxation time, as expected our Leader is not like anyone else!
Kazuna: Ahaha, I am not that relaxed. Ah… Sorry, Sumisora-san. You wanted to discuss our schedules after gathering everyone?
Tsubasa: No, it’s fine, we can talk about it later…
Kazuna: It’s fine since just then I was the one who initiated it.
Tsubasa: Thank you. Then…
Hikaru: Hey hey, the CM song that we discussed previously, has it been decided?!
Tsubasa: Sorry, not yet.
Hikaru: Gabi~n! (Shock!)
Tatsuhiro: Hikaru, first listen to Sumisora.
Hikaru: Yes~
Tsubasa: Fufu. Then----
Hikaru: Oh? Isn’t someone’s phone ringing?
Kazuna: Ah…Sorry, it’s mine. It looks like I forgot to switch it to silent, I’ll do it now--- Ugh….
Mikado: What’s wrong, Leader?
Momotaro: Is it an emergency?
Kazuna: No…Sorry, it’s nothing. Sumisora-san, please continue.
Tsubasa: Is it okay…?
Kazuna: It’s fine. It’s really…nothing.
Tsubasa: O-okay? Then, firstly---
Hikaru: …? Leader, is he really fine?
Tatsuhiro: …Well.
Kazuna: …………
Tsubasa: ----Then, please excuse me since it’s about time for me to go to the next location. If there is anything, please contact me.
Momotaro: Ah. Please take care.
Mikado: Good work.
Tsubasa: Mhmm, next… would taxi be faster?
Kazuna: Sumisora-san!
Tsubasa: Eh?… Masunaga-san. Did something happen?
Kazuna: Ah… Sorry, but there is something I wanted to confirm. Just now for our schedule you mentioned that we are free this Friday and Saturday night, is that right?
Tsubasa: Those days… That’s right, it’s free right now.
Kazuna: In that case, is it possible to ensure that it stays like that, but of course if there’s no choice…
Tsubasa: It’s fine. I’ll try my best and take note so that work won’t be too packed.
Kazuna: …Thank you. I’m sorry to call out to you when you’re busy. Then, see you.
Tsubasa: ….For Masunaga-san to check his day offs. Does he have something important planned…?
Kazuna: ……. Ah………
Momotaro: ….There is something wrong with Leader.
Tatsuhiro: Ah, this whole time he keeps looking at his phone.
Hikaru: As expected, it’s weird?! He’s not even paying attention to my conversation!
Mikado: For our kind Leader to be like this… Can it be, love?!
Momotaro: I wonder. I think… it is something else. ….Leader.
Kazuna: ……
Momotaro: Leader, are you all right?
Kazuna: Eh? … Ah, Sorry… Momo, did you say something?
Hikaru: W-wait, Leader, are you really all right? Are you not feeling well? Since a while ago, could you be searching for a… hospital?!
Kazuna: Y-you’re wrong. It’s nothing like that. I’m fine now and… what were we talking about?
Momotaro: Leader.
Kazuna: Me?
Momotaro: Like how you’re acting strange.…. Since the meeting with Tsubasa, right?
Kazuna: Ugh……
Mikado: After that, you ran after Tsubasa-san… Did something happen?
Momotaro: If there’s a problem, please tell us. We will try our best to help.
Hikaru: That’s right! Don’t keep it all to yourself~!!
Kazuna: Everyone… Sorry. Was I that strange?
Tatsuhiro: Ahh, to tell you the truth…
Kazuna: I see… Maybe I need more archery practice. No matter how much I try to stay calm, it looks like it’s not working.
Tatsuhiro: To stay calm… As expected, did something happen?
Kazuna: …That’s right. Actually… My elder brother contacted me. He has plans to visit nearby so he wants to meet up.
Mikado: Eh…elder brother….
Hikaru: Leader’s elder brother?!
TO BE CONTINUED.
HOME 02
Kazuna: My brother… Up until now I haven’t really talked about him. That’s because my brother and I haven’t met in a long time.
Tatsuhiro: Well, that’s to be expected from this line of work. Since those days in Bambi, we came here and started dormitory life.
Kazuna: You’re right. The other side also seems to be busy with work, too… I wonder how long has it been since I was invited like this? Before debut we promised to meet up once but…
Hikaru: Ehhh, that long ago?!
Mikado: Well… Aren’t all male siblings like this?
Kazuna: Even that time, it was cancelled just before we were about to meet up, so in the end it never happened.
Hikaru: Oh no, what a pity….
Momotaro: So that means the last time you met up with each other was even before that.
Kazuna: Yes. I’m a little embarrassed at how long it’s been. I wonder what kind of conversations we should hold when we meet up…. He is a bit of a whimsical person, hence why he suddenly contacted me. It would have been nice if he gave me some time to prepare myself emotionally.
Mikado: Fufu. But Leader you look happy.
Kazuna: Eh, is that so…?
Hikaru: Yes! You were so restless!
Tatsuhiro: Fu, yeah.
Kazuna: Ahaha… I will be happy if you could forget that….
Momotaro: It’s not a bad thing. He must be a very important person for our always-calm Leader to become like that.
Kazuna: You’re…right. I haven’t really thought about it, but he is my only sibling.
Mikado: To be on good terms is a wonderful thing! Then, so where are you meeting Onii-san (Elder brother)?
Kazuna: I’m thinking of a restaurant with good food so I searched up various places, but I still have yet to decide.
Tatsuhiro: Aah, so that’s why you were looking at your phone.
Momotaro: The browser’s tap count is turning into something amazing…
Mikado: If you don’t narrow down the options, then it will get out of hand? Let’s add the most important condition. Like the atmosphere of the restaurant, type of food…
Kazuna: That’s right… As expected, a place where we can talk comfortably would be nice. It’s a given that I want to listen to my brother’s stories, but I also have a lot I want to talk to him about. Such as work, everyone…. a lot.
Mikado: Leader…In that case, why not personally introduce us to Onii-san?
Kazuna: Eh…?
Hikaru: Ahahah, Mikachi that sounds like a proposal!
Tatsuhiro: Fu… Indeed, it did feel like that. But, I would also like to meet Leader’s brother as well.
Momotaro: Ahh, I want to greet (him).
Tatsuhiro: But, for everyone to go uninvited…
Hikaru: In that case, why not just ask Onii-san to come here instead?!
Kazuna: Eh… My brother, here?
TO BE CONTINUED.
HOME 03
Tatsuhiro: It’s fine.
Hikaru: Right? If it’s here you can talk freely?! Also, we can meet Onii-san!
Mikado: Nice idea! Everyone can prepare the food and ensure we provide the best hospitality.
Kazuna: Well, wait, everyone. I am happy about how you feel, but it’s too troublesome. It’s finally our day off as well…
Tatsuhiro: It doesn’t trouble us. We want to do this.
Mikado: We are always under Leader’s care so we want to express our gratitude to Onii-san as well!
Hikaru: That’s right.
Kazuna: Everyone…
Momotaro: We will slip out halfway so don’t worry. I’m sure you want to spend it privately with your family as well.
Tatsuhiro: I’m sure.
Hikaru: Until then we will make sure to lighten up the mood! Ah, let’s invite Tsubasa-chan as well!
Mikado: Sounds good, it’s going to be lively.
Kazuna: … Thank you, everyone. Really… I didn’t think there would be one day where I can introduce my close friends (nakama) to my brother. I’m really looking forward to it.
Tatsuhiro: Oi, it's time!
Hikaru: Just as I thought! It’s about time Onii-san arrives, right?! Mikachi, how’s the decoration?
Mikado: Just a bit more!
Momotaro: Food will be done after we decorate it.
Tsubasa: Let’s hurry!
Kazuna: Everyone, thank you so much. Sumisora-san as well, I’m sorry to do this to you on your day off.
Tsubasa: No, I was happy that I was invited. I hope Onii-san will be happy.
Mikado: Roast chicken, pizza, cake… We may have overdone it a little.
Tsubasa: Fufu, feels like a birthday party.
Kazuna: Ahh…. Since everyone went to such extent to prepare this. If he is not pleased, then I’ll make sure to lecture him.
Mikado: Haha, Leader is strict even to your own sibling.
Phone rings
Hikaru: Oh, is it from Onii-san?!
Kazuna: Seems like it. Is he lost…? ……!
Hikaru: Where is he right now? I can go out and meet him?
Kazuna: ……
Tsubasa: ….Masunaga-san?
Kazuna: Everyone, sorry…. It seems like my brother can’t make it.
Tatsuhiro: Eh…?
Hikaru: I-is he late? We can wait for a little longer.
Kazuna: No… I don’t think he will come even if we wait. Last time, he also cancelled it last minute as well…
Momotaro: Is that so…
Kazuna: ….Sorry. Thinking about it, I should have expected this… I’m an idiot. I’m really sorry.
Tsubasa: Masunaga-san…
Mikado: Don’t, saying that you’re an idiot. This sort of thing happens.
Momotaro: Exactly. When you’re working, it doesn’t always end up as planned. Leader does not need to take it to heart.
Mikado: That’s right! In fact, since he properly contacted you, he must be concerned about it. Instead! While we at it, everyone should eat the food?
Tsubasa: That’s right, let’s do that.
Hikaru: R-right! I’m starving~
Kazuna: …Sorry. I… need to calm my head.
Mikado: Leader…

Yuuta: Hey hey, doesn’t today’s practice end around the same time for everyone?! Let’s meet up afterwards and have Ganjyara Ramen!!
Goushi: The shop will be closed by then.
Yuuta: Eh, no way… No, it’s open! Just barely!
Goushi: No, it will be closed.
Yuuta: We will make it~! Hey, Massu!
Kazuna: Eh… what?
Yuuta: Ganjyara Ramen! We were talking about how we should go after practice today!
Kazuna: Ah…I don’t know. Today, I’m not really feeling ramen.
Yuuta: Eh~, it’ll definitely be delicious?! Ramen after sports!
Kazuna: ……
Yuuta: ….Massu?
Kazuna: …Eh?
Goushi: Masunaga, you---
Staff: Excuse me. Masunaga-san, please come and check your outfit!
Kazuna: Yes.…Sorry, I’ll be back.
Goushi: …..What’s with him. Is he fine?
Tomohisa: Kazu…. Lately, he’s been acting strange. I’m worried as well. Recently he looks like he is in low spirits.
Goushi: So it’s not just today…
Tomohisa: Yeah. I wonder if anything is troubling him?
Yuuta: Hey, is he like this in the dorm as well?
Hikaru: About that…
Tatsuhiro: At this rate, I think it’s better if we tell everyone, don’t you think?
Mikado: Yeah, you’re right…. Actually---
Yuuta: What, that’s horrible! Massu was particularly looking forward to it as well…!
Goushi: It can’t be helped even if you’re angry.
Yuuta: But---! To make someone look forward to something and then on the day saying no~ good is very sad!!
Tomohisa: It’s understandable that he will be feeling down after being turned down like that. To think that it wasn’t the first time as well…
Haruhi: I can’t if it was me! Just when I could fi~nally met Yuzuki and then if it gets cancelled last minute, I’ll die!!
Yuzuki: That’s a bit too much… You won’t die.
Haruhi: Ugh… Still, I think I will be very shocked. I feel sorry for Masunaga-san.
Akane: I think it’s hard since he must have felt that he troubled the members as well….
Yuuta: Ugh… My heart hurts! Come to think of it, if that day was no good for Onii-chan, then he could have just change it to another day~!!
Tatsuhiro: Right… But, we already had it set up so to redo it would have been weird. It's awkward to press on his family matters.
Mikado: Yeah. We were worried on how to approach this. For now, we should watch over him but…
Door opens
Kazuna: Haa… ………..
Goushi: …No, that is definitely terrible. At this rate it will affect work.
Mikado: Right…
Tomohisa: Let’s include Kazu and Tsubasa, and have a talk with everyone.
Akane: Talk, but how?
Tomohisa: First, let’s listen to Kazu’s feelings…
Miroku: How about we pretend it’s for work?
Haruhi: Ehh~! If anything wouldn’t that be more like a lecture?
Ryuji: If he talks to everyone wouldn’t it be more casual. If we lift his spirits, then maybe he will go back to his usual self.
Tomohisa: That’s right. Then, what about this----
Kazuna: I’m back…
Ryuji: Welcome back, Kazu.
Kazuna: Eh… Ryuji? Huh, everyone…?
Ryuji: Shocked? It’s a surprise.
Yuuta: I thought it’s been a while since we had a lively meal so we prepared this!
Kazuna: Is that so?
Hikaru: Ehehe, I’m glad we weren’t found out~! Here here, Leader come here!!
Tsubasa: Masunaga-san, please have a seat here.
Kazuna: Ah, thank you…. By any chance, did Sumisora-san also help prepare?
Tsubasa: Yes. It became a very enjoyable event so we worked hard and happily.
Kazuna: I see. I’m didn’t realize… I’m sorry I didn't help out. But, why a surprise? It’s not my birthday.
Akane: Well~ About that…
Hikaru: Actually we have something to tell Leader!
Tatsuhiro: Hikaru, it’s still early.
Hikaru: But….
Haruhi: That’s right, the plan was to first enjoy the food!
Hikaru: But but~! I can’t keep silent anymore~!
Kazuna: Mhmm… Everyone, what exactly is going on…?
TO BE CONTINUED.
HOME 05
Ryuji: Actually, the plan was to approach Kazu directly.
Tomohisa: You haven’t been acting like your usual self so we were worried. Also, we heard about your brother…
Ryuji: Everyone was worried. Did you not notice?
Kazuna: …Is that so. Sorry, for causing trouble.
Tatsuhiro: Don’t apologize. It’s not that.
Kazuna: Tatsuhiro…?
Tatsuhiro: Our feelings and things like that, we don’t care. It’s just everyone wants you to return to your usual self.
Mikado: …We have never seen Leader so depressed so this time to be honest we were at a loss. However, we didn’t want to rudely invade your privacy. Even so, it was also painful looking from afar as well… Sorry.
Kazuna: Ugh…
Hikaru: For Leader to be this down there must be a reason, right?
Kazuna: About…that…
Hikaru: Ahh, it’s all right if you don’t want to talk about it! It’s just that…. I just want you tell us even if it’s just your feelings. Sad, painful, that’s fine as well.
Tatsuhiro: Don’t keep it all to yourself. If you put it into words, it will make you feel better.
Momotaro: We will be by your side regardless. We are prepared to listen to your talk no matter how long. I just wanted you to know that, Leader.
Kazuna: ……
Yuuta: It’s not just MooNs! Me, Tsubasa-chan and everyone all feel the same!!
Tsubasa: Yes. We are all on Masunaga-san’s side.
Akane: That’s right, Massu!
Kazuna: Everyone… …… There is something.
Mikado: Eh?
Kazuna: There is something I want to talk about, is that all right?…
Mikado: ….! Of course!!
Momotaro: What is it, Leader?
Kazuna: … I love my brother. But, I’ve been turned down back then as well… Previously, I was shocked every time. However, I’ve become an adult, like this I’ve been working hard at my job and I’ve grown mentally as well… Or so I’ve thought. And yet, even now I still get disheartened like this. It was then I realized how immature I was. Above all that, I was shocked at this. I guess I am still that child that gets easily hurt….. Actually, I didn’t want to talk about my real feelings and this miserable talk. Except, I wasn’t able to sort out my own feelings. I made you worried… I’m really sorry.………
Kento: …Yes, well done.
Kazuna: Eh…?
Kento: You told us despite not wanting to talk, that’s good enough, right?
Goushi: Ahh, it’s a big deal. People who can admit that they’re no good from their own mouth are very brave.
Kento: Exactly. Goushi can never do that.
Goushi: Haa, isn’t that you?
Kento: What?
Yuuta: Mou~ Arguing again! If Massu is a child then both Gouchin and Kenken are babies?!
Yuzuki: …Baby THRIVE.
Goushi: Oi, Yuzuki! What did you just say?!
Kazuna: Fu…
Tsubasa: …!
Goushi: …Oi. It’s not funny, Masunaga.
Kazuna: Fufu… Sorry. But, it’s cute. Baby THRIVE.
Goushi: How so!
Tatsuhiro: ….Leader, you finally laughed.
Momotaro: Ahh, it feels like it’s been a while.
Mikado: Haa… Somehow, I feel relieved.
Hikaru: Yeah….! Feels like he is finally home!
Yuuta: Ah, I totally understand that!! B-Pro is, let’s see… a family but that may be too cliché. When everyone is present and laughing, it makes you want to say, “I’m back”.
Hikaru: I understand!! And when you see the “I’m back” smile, it then makes you want to say, “Welcome back”.
Yuuta: Yes! Everyone is not related by blood, but that doesn’t matter~
Tomohisa: …B-Pro is the place we call home?
Ryuji: I wonder why. I don’t really understand, but it feels right… I think.
Akane: I see… Our home…. So that’s why, I feel relaxed when I’m with everyone.
Mikado: No matter what happens, we will always have a place to return to. To be able to believe that, it’s a happy thing.
Goushi: Even so, I’m sorry but I don’t want you people to be my brothers.
Yuuta: Ah~! The mood was good so why did you have to say something like that!
Kento: Besides, all males… Well, there’s Tsubasa and I don’t need to hold back….
Yuuta: Kenken, wait!
Tsubasa: Fufu, it’s reassuring to have such reliable brothers.
Kazuna: … Yeah, you’re right.
Tsubasa: Masunaga-san…!
Kazuna: Then… I must make it up to everyone for making them worried about me. Everyone, give me your plates. First, let’s distribute the meat.
Yuuta: Yay~! Massu, give me more!!
Kazuna: Mhm, like this, we should spoil the youngest child?
Haruhi: Bapubapu! (Baby sounds)
Yuzuki: ….Bapu
Kazuna: Well…. Babies can’t eat meat?
Haruhi: Gyah--! Forget that!! Please forget that!!
Kazuna: Fufu. …. That aside, everything looks delicious. I’m feeling very hungry.
THE END.
